ME Super 1/2000 caping

Hi there! First let me say that i love the ME Super, it really is a camera with a character!
I had the same problem as you not long ago, my 1/2000 pics would come out blank, not exposed at all. while reading the service manual of the camera i saw something interesting. the "shutter cocked" indicator, a small pinhole window next to the winding lever might get stuck. the service manual. indicates that the spring of the indicator affects the 1/2000 speed. When I CLA-ed my camera i lubricated this part also and now it seems to function. also, the spring on my camera was bent the other way around. If you want the manual just google Me Super service manual, its easy to find.

K5 and K7 bottom compatibility?

I already removed the bottom plate to check for damage... oops!
No really, I dont think I endangered the weather resistance in any way, because there is an insulation strip running along the edge of the plate.
BUT, on a closer inspection, i noticed tiny dust specs on the corner of the lcd adjacent to the damage(dust intrusion), so I guess the ding HAS damaged the WR. I gues the silicone option is not that bad. after all its not like I will dissasemble the camera on daily basis... and no, id doesnt look that bad either!
thanks guys!

K5 and K7 bottom compatibility?

Hello there!
So i got a K5 for a bargain upgrading from a K30. I'm loving the camera, however, it has an ugly ding on the bottom plate which I reckon might also endanger the weather resistance of the whole camera.
I am willing to replace the bottom cover myself, but a part for the K5 is nowhere to be fount on ebay, I could only find a cople for the K7. From what i read the bodies are almost identical.
Can anyone tell me if the K7 bottom plate will fit on the K5 body? Preferably someone who has both the bodies and can make a side by side comparison.
Thank you!

judging from its inconsistency, the problem seems to be mechanic. do you remember dropping the lens or applying pressure on it? it might be a misaligned element.

DA* 55 1.4 SDM Problem

I dont really know about any capacitors, I guess I must have read/heard it somewhere. What I can tell you is this: I have a 17-70/4 SDM and it behaves like that. when i pick the camera after some days, its pretty lazy. after a couple cycles of focusing around its back to speed.

sdm system has capacitors, that said they tend to fall "asleep" after long times on no use, so try to use it at least a couple of times per week and it should be fine. if you let it rest for long times that sleep becomes death for the motor.

I think you're wrong about this lens, personally i would do some isolated pictures of the couple with this one, its great for portraits, and at 100/2.8 you will get a lot of bokeh(unless it is a MF of course)

I am also pleased to see this lens revamped, I own the original version and I love it, its good to see pentax bringing it in a new era. Of course they could ad wr and more iris blades and quick shift and even a dc motor, but the size wouldn't be the same, and I think its size is a big part of its character. I like the tiny touches they have made.
There's one thing I don't like though, the shrinked logo on the hood. The big bold pentax logo/writing has always caught my attention as a bold statement prom pentax "this is us, we dont bs!", but apparently the people at Ricoh have other visual orientations.

ME Super unresponsive shutter

Keep in mind that in order to loosen it you have to turn it clockwise - that is as if you were to tighten a mormal screw. it is a contrary screw, so just put your thumb upon it, apply pressure and turn clockwise. if it doesn't still bulge you could hit it on the sides with a plastic hammer.

this is related to the mirror box. you will have to dissasemby the whole thing, and there's also some unsoldering to do to get there. search the forum for a pdf with dissasembly institucion, it is very comprehensive. there is a rubber bumper that might need replacing.

DIY Gear

First of all kudos to you! it is awesome to see people invent their own gear, and this looks like a must have tool for somebody doing astro-photography or macro. From my modest analysis, there seems to be something missing in the design. there's a certain degree of freedom in movement to the yellow rod. i think it should be constrained by a rail on the near end mounted on the clamp to avoid turning around the screw axis and also a second hollow rail mounted on the other side of the clamp to further minimize the turning. I think utilizing the bed of the sliding path for this effect would result in to much grinding between the parts.
Check put this sketch i did real quick

I wouldnt mind doing some surgery but apparently I need a topcon body which i dont have. anyway, nice job!

Your Advice/Opinion Needed

Hello and welcome to the "niche"! :)
1. this is totally subjective, but for me is the general feeling. this camera for me feels like it is designed around the photographer and not the other way around. It is mainly an open structure system, so that you can manipulate anything and at any level.
2-3. like you, I have a k-30, with a 17-70 but from pentax and with a fixed f4, I also keep a prime with me, which is usually a fa-50/1.4 or fa-35/2. occasionally i take the DaL 55-300 for zooms, which is almost the same size as the 17-70. I would not recommend all around zooms since tend to loose IQ at both ends.

I managed to open it a bit from behind and i reckon the task is indeed difficult. on the other hand i think this lens would be better used on FF. i guess I will put it on sale.

Nice point you are making there! For what I've noticed so far the aperture ring is elongated towards the back until it embraces the mount base. This is the only lens I've seen where there is no actual contact between the lens mount base and the body mount, in fact this is achieved bu the extension of the aperture ring. coincidentally, this extension is about 5mm long, just the right amount I need to achieve infinity focus. Now, of course there has to be some space or a brush between the mount and the aperture ring so they dont grind. But it is not the space on the outside that bothers me, it is on the inside. I have to study the spaces between the rings and triggers on the inside(if there are any). I think the helical is further down.

Hello everybody!
I recently got my hands on a Konica Hexanon 57/1.2 and I want to convert it into a Pentax K mount so bad!
there is a guide in the forum about this procedure performed on Konica AR mounts but not specifically on this lens.
I know in theory what I have to do:
the konica has a 40 mm flange distance while the pentax has a 45.46 mm one. so the whole block of the lens has to move inward 5.46 mm in relation to the mount to achieve infinity focus.
One of the problems is mirror clearance, the rear glass element is too far back and I am afraid it will hit the mirror. I read at the adaptist site that the k mount needs at least 9mm of clearance from the mount base to be safe.
The furthermorst point of the lens at the actual state is about 6mm from the mount base, If I add the flange compensation of 5.46 it will go 11.46 mm and it will definitely crrash with the mirror. But I noticed that I can remoove the base of the rear element and I might shave a couple of mm. I need some advice, I dont want to screw up this beautiful piece of a lens.
Here are some pictures of it:

so far I can see:
1. no popup flash
2. no ev+- buttons
3. no AF toggle
4. additional wheel ok d-pad(possibly for EV)
5. substantially larger screen(touchscreen)
6. video recording function added to wifi button
