D FA* 70-200mm repair information needed

That's interesting. I'll see if they do the same with my 150-450. Haven't heard back yet.

I wonder if they are working to increase the turnaround and productivity of the repair shop. Have a bunch of refurbished copies on hand, do repairs on a bunch of the same model lenses when you get enough to fix. You set up parts and repair procedures for that model, do them then move on to the next.

One offs are difficult and expensive to do well.

K-1 fps in AF-C?

The k1 Mark 2 doesn't slow down if you hold the shutter and the af button. It is faster than the K3 in both modes when the shutter and af button are depressed.

Too much gear - what to do?

The problem isn't too much gear it's not enough real estate. The insuperable challenge with camera gear is that you can't just buy an acre and start stacking it under trees or against the fences, it has to be protected from the elements. On the other side of the ledger, it is typically small, as opposed to old cars and tractors, so presumably you could have a double car garage and fill that up. The neighbors wouldn't complain, and you could buy the current stock of ebay sales and it wouldn't be full.

It simply is a matter of thinking about the problem differently.

I agree. I was impressed how well it worked on the K3 for focus. It needs lots of light though for that sensor.

Focusing on the K1?

There are more than one setting for the af button. One is to enable focus with the shutter, enable focus without the shutter or cancel focus. So yes, back button focus is configurable.

In live view you hit the ok button to zoom in on the image to check focus. There is also focus peaking on the live view screen.

Micro Focus Adjustments

You are focusing on a flat plane, the focus target parallel to the body sensor. If the focus point in the body is out of adjustment and focusing on point an inch back of the target, the sharp section of the ruler image will be offset an inch back from zero.

I don't see how the calculation is relevant.

I sent my DFA 150-450 to Sun Camera in Canada. I fell into a pond with it, and there were some very dirty water drops that got into the vent, which evaporated and left marks a couple of elements in.

They got a hold of me yesterday with the same story. They can't do the repairs or even disassembly here, they don't have the tools to set up the lens. They want to send it to Japan. I gave the go ahead, and they suggested 6 weeks.

They did the K1 to Mark II upgrade, and I have had K3's serviced there as well with good results. There is something with the lenses where they upgrade the rom chip or something, and they are not set up here in Canada, and obviously the US.

Luckily I have another long lens to keep me occupied.

By the way, if you want good competent service people available to do the work, expect to pay them. Diagnosing a problem with a piece of hardware and pricing the fix is half the work.

Supporting a D FA 150-450mm lens: Use existing Arca-Swiss ball head or get a gimbal?

The way to use a long lens on a ball head is to put the shaft on the ball head down in the slot, put your lens foot on the side of the lens. Here is the best picture that I could find. Imagine that your lens foot is held like this

Gitzo's new high-tech ball head - DPNow.com Discussion Forum

Having a long lens on the top of a ball head is very unstable. If you loosen the ball, it will fall over potentially pulling your tripod over.

You won't use your K3. Keep one so you can send your K1 in for a cleaning every so often, or if you drop it or fall in a lake or something. The continuous shooting rate when holding the af button on the K1 crop mode gives you more shots than the K3.

You will get used to the iso headroom on the K1 very quickly. It opens opportunities for shooting, and going back to the K3 will seem limiting. That was my experience. I sent my K1 in for the upgrade and used a K3 for the three weeks. I had forgotten how badly things fell off above 1600 iso, and how it slowed down to a crawl when holding the af button on continuous.

Or you could have three bodies with different lenses hanging from your belt and look like a prol

The profiled denoise should adjust for the different iso levels. I apply this to iso 400 file and it doesn't ruin it.

Get one. It really helps with focusing. And yes all the information is visible. You need to change the angle of view. It cuts a bit of the brightness of the viewfinder, not excessively.
