Sigma stops K-Mount support

No, it was a list of manufacturers with Pentax "frames",
which I take to mean mount.

So what? They're still offering lenses in Pentax's M42 mount.

M42 is one of Pentax's USP's. Don't overlook it!

Airports: What to watch out for?

That's over the carry-on weight limit for some international airlines,
which they'll enforce when they're fully booked and you're flying cattle class.

Again, at some international airports they do want the cameras and lenses out.

This I don't understand.
The trays go through the X-ray machine, just like everything else.

Back in the day, you could ask for film to be kept clear,
although some nasty places like CDG in Paris
would still insist on X-rayng it.

Based on my experience with the waist finder on an LX back in the day, I must disagree.

There was no live view on a film camera,
so if you wanted to shoot round a corner or over the heads of a crowd,
the waist finder was the only way to go.

I would use hyperfocal, or guesstimate with the distance scale,
so the magnifier was not needed in those situations.

Of course, just the same as with a Hasselblad or Rolleiflex,
you had to rotate the camera in the "wrong" direction to compose.

The first 35mm SLRs only had a waist-level finder:

Maybe Pentax can give us an updated HD pinhole with extra flare protection. :)

With my older cameras where Pentax supplied the cable, I use that.

With the newer cameras where they [stingy Ricoh] didn't, I use a card reader.

Ricoh actually prototyped the technology (09 macro for the Q system) to make focus stacking largely irrelevant,
but have not seen fit to offer it on the market.

One K-Mount PRIME to rule them all 2019

Taking OP's question seriously, not just asking for a favorite lens,
I would have to say it's the Zeiss ZK 50/2 Makro-Planar.

It does all the usual nifty-fifty jobs, on APS-C and FF,
but then at f/2, where it's still sharp, it's also a low-light demon,
and at 1:2 it does almost everything you'd expect of a macro lens.

It doesn't do wide-angle directly,
but the distortion is low enough to make stitching a reasonable proposition.

None of my other primes is that versatile.

Sounds like a great opportunity to do a KP-J conversion,
or maybe that should be KP-IN? :)

Actually, it's larger in every linear dimension than the 2010 flagship K5.

KP: 131.5 x 101 x 76 mm

K5: 130.5 x 96.5 x 72.5 mm

If you want compactness, better grab one of the remaining K-S2s:

K-S2: 122 x 91 x 72.5 mm

I exercised my free-market choice and switched to their NYC competitor.

With Pentax, in your terms, I know for 99% that my Pentax Q kits are "end-of-life".

But in practice, I continue to find them really useful for jobs that no other system can handle.
