SOLDfor lens Rare Pentax A 50mm F1.2 caps included, no hood. Glass is clean, some internal dust due to age, none have affected my pictures. I hate to let this gem go but my eyes aren’t as good anymore for manual focus.
Example pic of my Dad with Pentax 50mm f1.2 at f1.2 using Pentax to nex converter mounted on Sony a7iii while I was testing. I got slightly behind nose in focus, slightly off his eye, 5 ft away, so DOF was crazy thin. but bokeh lovers/haters enjoy

FA *85 or FA 77 Limited?
Posted By angelo9978

my two cents - I love both. they both take sharp pics with pixie dust, even both wide open. Like everyone says, the 77 is smaller and most likely to be packed. I owned the 77 before the 85, and I basically obtained the 85 because I know they are a rarer item, and I got it at a good price/condition. If I had not bought the 85, I would be more than happy with my portraits with the 77, and vice versa, if I owned the 85 before the 77. I'm not sure the price difference means better performance, for me its more of a collector issue. If you can get a great deal on the fa 85, I wouldn't hesitate to get that because its just more rare.

I'm interested to see how many people will be upgrading their limited edition k1 mark 1's to mark 2's. It'll be kinda neat to have a limited edition mark ii before Pentax even offers it

Nature first bird shots with DFA 150-450mm

Here are my first bird photos with the 150-450mm, cropped, exposure bumped but no sharpening or anything else applied. I'm very happy with this lens! I could have done better technique too, I just saw some birds and decided to whip out the camera and take some pics. I totally missed my first bird in flight, but it was a learning experience for sure. With a little contrast/sharpening, pics should look better. Also better technique next time should help out.

I will test the 150-450 with and without the 1.7x I won't make promises on how controlled it is, but I'll do my best, and I'll choose a good lighting day lol.

I do think there may be user error in indoor shots especially at f4 because my ball head was loose, and I tightened the hex screw before I took my outside shots (hex tool was in my car). so in essence, it was on my tripod but it was somewhat loose so I still had to hold the camera steady while taking the indoor shots, especially to keep the frame uniform throughout.

So far I'm happy with the AFA 1.7x. I will retest my 60-250 again, with and without the AFA 1.7x, just because I will be more careful and mindful of settings on my 2nd test. I did use the AFA 1.7x with my A 50mm F1.2 and was happy with the rendering and results there just from in camera peeping (resulting in 85mm f2.8). I deleted those test photos, but maybe I will retest and post that combination. The AFA 1.7x is spot on in focusing especially when you double check it using live view zoomed in, I finally get why on some lenses you have to get it within focusing range to enable the AFA to focus the rest of the way. My 60-250mm motor died, so all focusing on that without the AFA is manual. The 150-450 definitely appears better at rendering small details, as I would expect regarding its cost; I'm going to shoot with it constantly for the next year partly because I just found the 3 instances of the lens coming apart as reported in this forum and want to make sure if mine does that that it is still under warranty (I do have a later serial number than the reported mishaps). Last, I've never went birding before, but I'm definitely going to start especially now I have this lens, and I hear NJ is good real estate for birding.

I know I probably made a bunch of mistakes on how to go about this test but, if you were curious about how the 60-250mm DA with a AFA 1.7x tc performs versus a 150-450mm DFA then here it is. max focal lengths used, SR was off, tripod was used, if it got more blurry as I stopped down its b/c of my shutter speed (even I can mess up shooting on tripod lol). conversion from raw to jpg via lightroom. attempted 1:1 crop based on 1:1 view on lightroom (who knows if I did it right, but it looks like how it looked 1:1 in lightroom, i just used adjustment mask to help me crop 1:1 as lightroom saw it)

Which lens would you buy for those with AFA 1.7x? DA 300mm or 300* M

I will be choosing the DA 300mm. Price at the moment, weather sealing, use with and without the tc. Maybe it was the bird in flight photo that tipped the scale finally. But either way, it looks like can't lose because they are all good performing lenses

I got the lens buying bug, and it unsurprisingly coincides with tax season :)

For those who have used the AFA 1.7x, which one do you think is a better buy per price/performance, or just performance in general; the DA 300mm for $896 or a good copy of pentax-M * 300mm f4 for $440? There was also a FA available for $711, but that seemed so close to the DA price and the DA has warranty and weather sealing, unless FA owners out there say the FA 300 f4.5 is stardust magic. I like to hike, but don't have a lot of bird photos, but I figure I will start focusing on birding if I pull the trigger on one of them.

Please help me with your input, Thanks!

Is it better to update to the multibrand hss firmware 1.1.013 or pentax pen.a.001 ? pentax was released 1 month after the hss. Or does it make no difference?
