Sorry to intervene, but the soft results in artificial light + flash made me ditch Kx/K7 and switch to Nikon. I thought that the new combo Kr/K5 will nail that issue but apparently not. I hope Hoya will somehow find a way for the sake of an otherwise excellent camera.

the *ist DS has limitations that cannot be overcomed by any post processing, it is just old technology. So the only options for you are either to upgrade the lens/body or to use additional lighting.
Kx could solve your problem. Be advised it sometimes struggles focusing in low light and sometimes mis-focuses in tungsten light. A manual f1.4 lens could also help a lot in maintaining a low noise/high shutter.

TBH, I was expecting this result. I have (i believe) the first D7000 officially sold in my homecountry and it is a fine camera indeed. The K7 will fly to Germany.
K5 sounds like an awesome camera and I will come from time to time to the PF to see what is capable of.

to OP
Have you considered the D7000?
The price/quality ratio is unbeatable, IMO.
The sensor seems to be the same as in K5 so you get the new sensor tech with all advantages of the Nikon system.
BUT, if you foresee using the camera in harsh conditions (rain, snow, cold) or you like using mostly small primes, Pentax is a better option.

To bridge the gap until D7000 is released in my home country, I have purchased a used Nikon D40 and the 35/1.8 DX. I must say I am impressed even with this old 6 MP body. Believe it or not, except for the sheer resolution and high ISO capabilities, the D40 delievrs for my needs better than pentax Kx (before bashing - note that I said MY needs). I am especially impressed by the auto WB who seems better than the 2009 Kx. As for the 35 1.8 - for 200 EUR (EU price) it is a dream of a lens. Very sharp even wide open - I have attached a picture taken handheld at 1/60 sec f1.8. I am satisfied with the bokeh and I don't miss a bit the FA 31mm. The build is plasticky, of course, but I have just overcome the focus on build and switch to of IQ and value.
for UWA, I am eyeing the 10-24 from NIKON, despite it's flaws, it seems a very good lens.

I have read about it on Falk Lumo's website but never bothered me on K7/Kx.

Don't get me wrong, I strongly believe in our current values (even if they are a little on the consumerist side). I believe that somehow the immigrants should adopt at least a basic level of the host country culture and values in order for them to claim the rights to exert their culture. To get people to do this is very hard because of the natural resistance to change, limited resources and other reasons.

I agree with Merkel there. It is a sign of respect to learn the language of the country that feeds you and to respect the modern values in the society you live in.
Regarding Western culture... a lot of massacres were done in the name of Christian values (misinterpreted of course) remember the Crusades, the Conquista, the colonization of Africa, Asia, the Nazis and the list can go on.
Truth is that the Islam was in the history much more tolerant regarding religious beliefs. As per the "human rights" yes, there are a lot of bad examples especially nowadays - talibans, bigots and so on and so forth.
The Turks in Germany came and helped to build the infrastructure and most of them are honest, hard working people.
To solve this issue is very very hard and takes a lot of efforts.

I have the 18-200mm VR and it is an excellent all-rounder. Maybe you could find the VR1 which is cheaper even the difference from VR2 version are quite minor (zoom lock and exterior design) The VR system is the same in both.
I support genuine Nikon lenses because only with those you will get automatic CA correction, more accurate metering, focusing and flash exposures and so on.
