Switched to FF, which lenses to change?

My K-1 kit is basically FA20-35/4, FA43, and something longer like an M135/3.5, M75-150/4 or M80-200/4.5 (I need aperture rings for film cameras). I didn't buy the DFA28-105 as I have loads of old 28-xx zooms and can't justify another. I would like something weather sealed, but don't need anything longer than 43 or 50 until about 135 where I often want something in the 150 or 200 range. I dislike heavy lenses on cameras unless I need longer reach.

I have this lens and the PH-RBA 58mm is indeed the OEM hood and it does not vignette on the K-1.

Whatever camera (maybe phone?) that took the photo looks like it added in some distortion which may be why it looks a little long...

Here is my Canada Day 150 shot taken back in 2009 of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. (I posted it before years ago, so apologies)

I used a red filter to darken the sky black, so the maple leaf in the flag is also white. (KX shooting Fomapan R100 processed by DR5 Chrome)

Phil.

Happy Canada Day to all the "Canucks" out there!

I brought my black K out today. Using film is slow, you think longer, look for the image, measure light and adjust aperture and shutter. Shoot and hope it turns out nice.

Photo of todays kit can been seen in the gearp0rn thread.

The seller was a really nice woman, she regretted posting it so cheaply. I gave her more than she was asking for it when I saw how nice it was. You're in the Vancouver area?

Today is a really nice day here in Norway. Camera is packed and loaded with Velva 50.

Today the choise is Pentax K - with the all-black Auto-Tak 50mm f1.8, Auto-Tak 35mm f2,3 and Tak 83mm f1.9. Just in case, a Tak 135mm f3.5 is also in the bag.

Hope for some nice pics :)

That scene at the end of Return of the Jedi...

Lando Calrissian: "Go for the power regulator on the North Tower."

Wedge Antilles (squeezes triggers, target explodes): "Copy, Gold Leader; I'm already on my way out."

As much as I like my small cameras and my meterless cameras (sometimes), of the stuff I already own, my Spotty F and S-M-C 50/4 macro would have to be the keepers for pure versatility. If I am allowed to add forward dioptres and rear bellows, etc., I'd keep the S-M-C Tak 50/1.4 instead.

If I wanted to keep my MX, I would have to buy a K, M, or A 50mm macro lens.

No, I can see why not!

I have the Rikenon P (Tomioka?) 55/1.2, so a 50/1.2 K would be functionally redundant in my collection, but if I ever stumble across a 50/1.2 A at that price I think my K-1 would thank me. Now that I actually have a 1.2 in my collection, I can afford to bide my time.

I love my 67 with the 105mm, but the mz-L with a 40mm xs makes film photography so accessible. its the camera combo i bring most of the time.

The K24/2.8 was released during the "M" series years to replace the K24/3.5, but was was identified as a "K" lens most likely due to the 52mm filter thread.

Yes, that's what I meant. Likely already fit the bill for their M lineup intentions, seeing as it is so compact.

Get it done before he retires, and remember to exercise the ones that aren't being used (at least once a month, pop batteries in as appropriate, fire them at all shutter speeds, and make sure all the needles twitch and the mirror moves etc. etc.)

You can get a rough idea by searching in the PF forum showing items for sale. If you do an advanced search, include a search for sold items. To narrow the search, I'd suggest looking for the exact phrase "PZ-1" or "FA 50 f1.4", and searching only in the first post of each thread. The search can be confined to a time period - e.g. since 1 January 2016.

These results are not definitive, because the final price accepted by the seller might be less than the last price for which the item was listed. But it will give you a general idea.

Here's someone asking $US150 for an FA 50 f1.4: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/24-photographic-equipment-sale/346348-sa...f-2-8-a16.html

There's probably a way to search ebay for items sold too, but I'm not sure how you go about that.

What would you have for portraiture 40mm to 60mm including third party

Well, of course. The DA 50mm is a great lens, for the price. But obviously a lens that costs 10x as much simply has to be better.
I have DA 35mm f2.4 and DA 40mm XS. DA 35mm has quite some distortion, so it is not great for portraits, unless they are really wide, environmental portraits. If you take a photo of shoulders and face, the face will look a little round, with wider nose - generally not something people like in their portraits. But it is a good, sharp lens. I think it is similar to the DA 50mm, though - great, light, sharp, but simply not on the same level as the Limited lenses. DA 40mm XS is a good compromise, as it is the same optics as SMC DA 40mm limited, but at a lower price (due to lack of QS, lens hood, distance scales). Simply put, it has those deep contrasts and colours you can expect from DA limited lenses. The XS has rounded aperture blades and Tessar-based formula, which gives interesting bokeh, but it is not exactly a bokeh monster (like the Voigtlander you mention)

DA 35mm f2.4 is probably my most used lens, its great on APSC, but I would use something more telephoto for tight portraits. If you have a bit of landscape and the whole body in the shot, it might be enough. It is sharp, but not super artsy.
DA 40mm XS is a good lens, super compact, with nice colours and contrasts. It has more of the Limited character at the price of a regular DA lens.
But since you like the FA 77mm so much, you should probably think about FA 43mm limited. Its the least expensive of the limited lenses and its bokeh is slightly better than the DA 40mm (the FA is more telephoto and has faster aperture, and more 'character').

Edit: Also, there are many many legacy and third party lenses around 50mm to 55mm and 58mm. Something like the Helios 44(many versions of this lens, some are even kmount) can give you amazing bokeh at a really low price. Or an old Takumar, or Pentax A series, a Rikenon 50mm,.. its hard to get a bad prime lens in the 50mm range, though there are significant differences in the character (bokeh, wide open sharpness, flare resistance, contrast, colours). If you don't mind going more or less manual

Tl;dr: DA 40mm XS, DA 40mm limited (SMC or HD version, just different coatings and aperture blades), FA 43mm limited.

Yup, and the optics are very similar to those of the FA*, with the addition of quick shift, which is the highlight IMO.

You will get some solid indicative prices at:
SMC Pentax-FA* 300mm F4.5 ED [IF] Reviews - FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

Pricing my vary depending if the hood is included or not.

This is an excellent FF lens. Some do prefer it over the newer DA*300mm because it is lighted and more easily handheld.

Hope that the info may help.

I think the new price of the DA* 300mm should be a general upper bound for the price of this lens. I really wouldn't pick the FA* over the DA* for image quality or handling, but there are collectors that will greatly value it it, and if it's close to pristine shape, you may be able to score a nice premium on it.

Yep as well as the aperture reading in the Judas window turns red when you are using exposure compensation. I once shot most of a roll of film with a K2 and did not notice the exposure compensation was not at "1". :o

Once upon a time, charity (goodwill) shops here would often have bargains like this...my first film SLR came from one and cost me pocket money as a child. Nowadays they all research every item and ask top second hand prices instead...that's frustrating for a bargain hunter, but good for the charity I suppose. A lot of the real bargains now are where someone is selling a dead relative's estate and just need it all cleared quick, and have zero knowledge or time to evaluate every item. An old film camera just looks like outdated tat to the uninitiated...put it in the pile with the old woodwork tools and the typewriter and be done.
