Terry, on the back of the flash there are various switches/sliders that work to control the light output of the flash - some of it's intuitive - some (unfortunately) is not. The good news is you'll be shooting digital so can do a LOT of experimenting. I'd sit at my desk and just shoot pics of whatever was in front me.

You don't always need to use a flash for macro - it really depends on the what the natural light is like and how it illuminates your subject - AND how you want to illuminate the subject. Again, the good news is you're shooting digital so can do a lot of "playing" around - another way to say "experimenting".:)

As to attaching the flash - the body of the flash goes onto the hotshoe and the flash head attaches via a reversing adapter ring (included) to the front of the lens - you wouldn't use the lens hood while using the flash.

Check out this forum for a lot of very good macro photos - *Macro* lens club - PentaxForums.com and if you check out some of the general photography sub-forums there's a lot of flash info.

Also, you might check out Amazon for books on macro with flash - perhaps on eBay also.

Hope this helps - and again, I can't stress enough how important it is to just experiment and take LOTS of photos!

Chip

Terry that's pretty normal macro lens operation - my FA 100 macro operated the same way - no issues.

Terry, if the lens you're referring to is either of the Pentax-D FA 100mm f2.8's (WR or non-WR version) then those lenses have a 49mm filter thread (according to the PF lens reviews) - then, yes, the flash will fit and I even found I have an adapter that will work and I would include for you.

As to the voltage - I measured it at around 3.5-3.6 VDC so it's well within the safe range of today's DSLRs. And, as I previously mentioned, I used it on both my K-30 and K-3 with no ill effects.

Thanks for your interest,
Chip

What a neat looking bird - the marking on the feathers makes me think of the Ring-neck Pheasant's markings.

Anyway, great photos!! :)

Thanks for the "boost" - I agree - very versatile flash and it worked great with my K30 and K-3 - both as an actual ring flash (which it is) and as a regular flash utilizing the "regular" flash feature.

Never tried it with a K-1. From everything I've read and heard, the only issue with using the lens on a K-1 is a clearance issue where it can leave a (very) small scratch mark on the bottom of the pop-up flash housing. And Sigma can and will "modify" the lens at no charge to fix this issue.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Yuzo (Dine) Ring Flash with Pentax Module

Asking Price
75.00 USD

Item Location
Central Texas (United States)

Item Description
Offering a Yuzo DC2814 Ring Flash with the Pentax module for sale. In overall excellent condition, works great and comes with two mounting rings for attaching to the front of your lens - 58mm and 62mm. Other ring sizes can be ordered - you need a female 52mm to a male whatever your lens filer ring size is.

The flash has two "flashers" - one is the ring flash and the other is a standard flash - you can select which one you want to use.

After doing a bit of research, it appears that the Yuzo unit and the (Lester) Dine unit are one and the same and most likely manufactured by Nissin.. If you do an ebay search on "lester nissin" you'll see some Dine units for sale (look identical to the Yuzo) AND you'll see some of the exchangeable control modules for sale.

Item for Sale
Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 Flash for Pentax

Asking Price
150.00 USD

Item Location
Central Texas (United States)

Item Description
Here's a Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 flash for Pentax. It works great - no problems at all. I've updated the firmware to the latest level (6.0) which adds support for the K-1.

There are some minor scuffs on the body, but these have no impact on function.

Includes an off-camera cord - P-TTL capable. Also included is the original box and instruction manual. The neat little Pentax table-top tripod is NOT included.

Asking $150 USD which includes shipping to CONUS and PayPal fees - overseas expect $10-20 additional, country dependant.

Item for Sale
Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 DC Macro Lens - Pentax K-Mount

Asking Price
150.00 USD

Item Location
Central Texas (United States)

Item Description
This has been my "go-to" lens - crisp, sharp images, very good close-up capability (SIgma calls it "macro" - I call it "close-up") :)

Lens is in very-good to excellent condition - there's some minor scuffs - mostly on the lens hood but the glass is clean and clear and the aperture blades are clean, oil free, and snappy.

This isn't the HSM version, but the focus is quick and accurate - I never had any issues with it.

As I said, this was my "go-to" lens for quite some time - did lots of flower photography and chasing the grandkids with it!! A lot of car photos too.

But, since I've sold off my Pentax DSLRs, I don't have a need for this anymore - I'll miss it.

Asking $150 USD - shipping to CONUS and PayPal fees included.
