I have filed an eBay claim for a lens that was represented as clean but when it arrived had significant fungus. The seller did not want to pay for shipping back to him and would not refund the shipping to me. After filing the claim, eBay reviewed and contacted the seller. Shortly after eBay got involved, I received pre-paid shipping label from the seller and upon receipt of the lens the seller refunded the full amount + the original shipping. eBay does not play when it comes to sellers misrepresenting their items. Go ahead and file a claim.

Another vote for the MX. Smaller and lighter with a wonderfully big and bright viewfinder!

As the owner of one of these, I can state that it is a nice and sharp mirror lens. If I did not already have one, I would snatch this one up!!

(BTW -- I paid 3x this for mine with case.)

A few shots ...

Surprising results. The Tak bayonet's maligned reputation appears to be undeserved!

Macro Adaptall noob: Tamron 90mm 52BB w/o dedicated 1:1 converter or tube. Hints and tips?

I have the 52BB and it is a fabulous lens. Finding the 1:1 macro tube is extremely difficult and when found, crazy expensive. I would suggest just getting the Tamron 01-F 2x converter (readily found / relatively cheap) and removing the glass. It has been reported that the specs on a de-glassed 01-F is identical to the native macro extension tube and renders 1:1 macro. That's what I did and it works quite well.

Reach out to Brian (dcshooter) on this forum. He does lens repairs and can likely provide an estimate. He has done excellent work for many on this forum.

Prices for the MX

The MX has a more sensitive and wider range light meter (1-19 EV) while the KM's meter is not quite as sensitive (3-18 EV). Being the owner of an MX, I can state that the View Finder is WONDERFUL -- both large and bright!! While I do not own a KM, I can state that the VF of the MX is nicer than the KM's KX and K2 siblings (which I do own). It is wonderfully light and compact (the size of an ME/ME Super). If one can afford an MX -- it would definitely be the way to go -- IMHO.

Auzzie --

My apologies if my offer to 'take it off your hands' (buy it) offended you. It was certainly not my intent and I certainly can see how my post could certainly come across as highly insensitive given the circumstances.

The camera pictured is a lovely camera. It looks like a variation of the Kodak Vigilant Six-16/20 cameras which were quite popular in the late 30's to mid 40's. It appears to be a decedent of the Stuttgart Kodak Duo 620, which was a highly regarded camera in its time (mid 1930's) with the Duo II being touted as Emila Earnhardt's favorite camera. Your camera was obviously cherished and well cared for. Cosmetically it looks wonderful for its age and the bellows appear to be supple and in nice condition. The fact that the manual and case are with it and also in such wonderful condition, further validates that it was a treasured piece of equipment. Information on the SPECIAL is a bit sparse, but hopefully someone can provide more info.

Good luck!

The DA 40XS, while small, is a APS-C lens with a smaller image circle then the full-frame 35mm film plane. It also has no aperture setting ring. The Pentax-M 40/2.8 is the way to go.

*Used* K1000 w/ 50-1.4 advertised for ~$1600 in local camera store

According to the site, all used equipment must be purchased at the store. No online sales on these, it seems. I guess one can check the condition when they are at the store to purchase an over-priced used piece of equipment advertised online with a picture that does not reflect the actual equipment. Why even bother to list the used gear on the website?

It seems the K1000 with 50/1.7 is on sale -- it's only $295.00!! ;)

Used Cameras - Downtown Camera

And there's a KM (KX is pictured) for the bargain price of $550!!

USED PENTAX KM WITH 55 F1.8 - Downtown Camera

I'm all for giving brick and mortar camera shops business, but someone REALLY needs to do some market pricing comparisons and proofing before they post these listings up.
