Really? You expect your audience to spend the whole day here spamming just to win something? Thanks for the give away but I think it would be much nicer and convenient to just allow one post in this thread and then do a random drawing.

Thanks for listening.

Yes. Each lens has its own firmware to maximize performance. I did the firmware updates and they didn't work very well.

I believe rip off is accurate and as long as some people are paying the ridiculous high price the price will remain. If this Q camera was so hot there wouldn't be so many of them around selling for dirt cheap compared to original MSRP.

I expect this adapter to be a limited number produced item built in low numbers to save production cost and max to ensure a limited quick sell for max profitability or the price of it will drop just like the Q camera did.

The 5.5x crop factor is terribly hard to work with for most every day photo opportunities and mixed with K mount lenses the camera becomes even more annoying to use. I can see this working out for telphoto usage only on a tripod with subjects that barely move. So its a nice item to have for those situations but for this kind of money I think buying a nicer real DSLR body and playing with lenses will be a much better route to go.

I just feel like Pentax is holding back on innovation in terms of sensor technology and software technology. Its like Pentax is just trying to make money selling older cheaper sensors with cruddy software packaged in a wanabe hip and retro design. I really think Pentax has to step up to their roots and history in building cameras that are capable of taking amazing photos. Pentax needs new tech and substance instead of focusing on appearance. I really don't think Pentax is going to be able to compete with the competition.

I don't get it either. I actually bought one for the low price but ended up returning it because it doesn't take very good photographs and is hard to use. I think it needs alot of work on the software to make it work right. It doesn't quite work well as a P&S and is too hard to focus as a small mini wannabe DSLR. Then the official K adapter for it is a rip off and I doubt it works very well since the regular mini lenses didn't work well for me. I'm glad I tried it to see how it worked out and I had high hopes for it but it wasn't a very good camera and I returned it.

This camera has zero chance to compete in its class. The Price will surely drop but I wouldn't waste money on sub par camera like this. Looks nice.

Sensor seems very weak.

Nice shot. I recently had a terrible time trying to capture image like that of my family. It's hard to keep a young one still.

What lens did you use?

VisualDarkness any chance there is condensation inside the lens and all the light reflecting off of the snow is effecting image processing? REad some bad reviews on this lens and it may be that the lens quality it hit or miss during production.

Earlier this week I was in San Francisco and had terrible image problems with my Q. In my images on high res it looks like there is patches of the image that are blurry and I think it may have been caused by taking my warm Q out of my coat pocket and exposing it to the cold early morning air.

I don't see the point of this mod. My Fotodiox adapter isn't sloppy. The Aperture movement clicks fine.

Fotodiox adapter question

I went on a trip to San Francisco over new years and I had a tough time taking spontaneous shots of my family. Used the Fotodiox adapter with Pentax DA 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 AL lens that came with my Pentax K10D.

I had a tough time getting the camera to operate dependable for clear shots and left it at 18mm for most of the shots because I had a tough time focusing with free hand. Took alot of photos with it and most of my shots were out of focus. I had a tough time using the small display in daylight for focusing. I have 20/20 vision. I know this camera is not a simple point and shoot but the software didn't make sense to me. Adjusting focal length didn't seem to do anything. Exposure value settings didn't seem to stick. I found myself having to manually adjust way too much and a few times I had to just set camera settings to default to start fresh.

I enjoy taking photos and being able to control a camera but a little after 2 weeks and about 1000 shots on this camera and I still can't seem to control it. Seems very unpredictable to me and I blame the software. Even with Tripod I have a tough time controlling it. Also the 02 zoom lens seems in auto mode doesn't operate as fast or as inteligent as I would like, again I blame software.

I jumped on the Q when I found a hot price and I felt confident about the purchase because the Q had such a high price at launch. Right now I feel like the camera is too hard to control and I am unable to capture the images that I am trying to capture.

I will post some photos that I was partly satisfied with in another thread.

I am coming close to my 30 day return policy date and I am really thinking about returning it. If I keep it I will have to buy a flat wide angle lens to be able to capture close range photos that I would like to easily capture. That is going to throw more money into this camera just to get the type of image I am trying to get. I may just end up returning the Q and the K-01 and sell the K10D and get a K5.

Fotodiox adapter question

I don't have any problems with the black paint finish on the inside. I don't think painting it is necessary. As a whole it seems high quality to me and as far as function the adapter works well but I find close up shots difficult because of +5.5 crop factor with K lenses.

I'm debating keeping this camera right now. If I keep it I think I will need to get a high quality K mount wide 8mm lens for close ups when using this adapter.

I enjoy the Q but because of software issues and manual use with this adapter with K lenses I have had a tough time figuring out how to maximize it for manual photos and video.

What is Focal Length of Fotodiox Q to K adapter?

Thanks Scott.

The cheapy fotodiox works fine for manual focusing and has and adjustable aperture ring built into it. Flash offset control can manually be set as well. I might get the Pentax adapter when the price comes down but for now the cheapy fotodiox is working great for me. :)

Pentax Q Firmware Update

So if my camera came with the Zoom lens then I need to update the Firmware o support it and it will support other K lenses as well? To me it seems much more easier to just have one firmware update that covers all lenses.

I'm still a little confused about this. I think that a firmware update dedicated for a lens will not work as well on other lenses.

Thanks.

I wasn't sure if the adapter offset distance would effect over all focal length.
