How much for the Kitty Kat? Looks like it is comfortable being in pictures. :)

I have a similar M 50mm F1.4, purchased in the '70's on a new ME Super, and it works great on my K10D.

D200 dust in viewfinder

Thanks Nesster, I'll try a rocket blower first down the throat, and if that doesn't work I'll see if I can find a way to get to the viewfinder area better.

Nice clean used D200's are relatively cheap right now, as you say, and I think they are a lot of camera for the money. I have a K10D which I like very much and the D200's ergonomics are similar. I thought about a K-5 but I just don't have any interest in video, and it is a lot more money that I paid for this D200. I don't need 16 MP since I don't intend to print anything real big. I don't shoot in dark places such as bars, jazz clubs, opera houses, etc. Most of my shooting is outside for landscape or wildlife, in decent light so the K10D and D200 will do me just fine.

I only just got the camera Saturday, and it has a Nikkor 18-70mm S lens which has the Silent Wave Motor for auto-focus; the auto-focus is quick and quiet, to say the least. I took it hiking yesterday and played with various settings, I think I will like it a lot, once I get used to the basic operations. It seems to be pretty straightforward, with a lot of primary functions controlled by external buttons, which I like, much like the K10D. I have several nice Tamron Adaptall II lenses that will work with it. I will probably look for a used AF lens in the 50-200mm range to go with the 18-70 and I should be set.

Both the D200 and the K10D are a lot more camera than I am photographer!

Any suggestions on removing dust from a Nikon D200 viewfinder? Will a rocket blower help opr does it involve some dismantling of the camera to access the viewfinder? I feel certain it is in the viewfinder because it does not show up in the images; I shot clear sky to see if the dust would show up in the images, and it didn't.

I also use some Tamron Adaptall II lenses with my K10D and they work great with the PK/A adapter. I have a 300mm prime, a 60-300, a 70-210 (?), and very nice 90mm SP Macro which takes beautiful pictures, as do all of the them.

Third-Party Weather Sealed Lenses for Pentax

I spoke with a gentleman at Sigma the other day about how their 18-125 compares to the Pentax 18-135 regarding the Pentax designation of WR. He said the Sigma has moisture seals incorporated in the design and he feels that it is as "WR" as the Pentax in that regard.

I am considering a lens of that range for my K10D and I would like it to be as "WR" as possible.

Who knows...

Nikon D7000/D300 "digital filters"

I also liked the dual SD slot feature, as well as being able to incorporate text in the images., but for my level of expertise and involvement, those features would probably just be novelties. I really don't have any desire to shoot video, although I am sure I would play with it if I bought a camera with video capabilities. My analysis is that the D7000 probably has better (define better!)--i.e. quicker and more accurate--AF, especially in low light, but I don't shoot "action" stuff, and I don't need to take photos in a dark night club. I handled both cameras a couple of different times in the last few days and the K-5 just seems to fit better. I also like the controls since the are probably similar to my K10D. I think I would have to go back to school and get an EE degree to fully utilize the D7000!

Thanks Na! I have reviewed the K-5 and D7000 to death, and will probably go with the K-5. Most of my shooting is outdoors with landscapes and wildlife (as well as my own cats!) being my main areas of interest. I like to hike and carry a camera, and I like the size and weight of the K-5. I have both LR4 and an older version of Photoshop and will install them this weekend. I have used Photoshop some in the past and know that both programs offer many more features than I will ever be able to understand. I shoot mostly JPEG but am getting more interested in playing with images in post-processing, and printing. I can obviously shoot RAW with my K10D too! Thanks for the advice; I have seen that there is a lot of instructional material available on line, and I'll just have to sit down and start studying! Take care.

Thanks guys. I saw the digital filter effects available in the K-5 review and thought they would be fun to play with in JPEG occassionally. I have a K10D and am considering either a K-5 or D7000 level camera and would shoot more RAW and use my LR4 program to PP if I go that route.:)

Does anyone know if either the Nikon D7000 or D300 (not "s") have the "digital filters" such as found in the Pentax K-5, which allow several various special effects (i.e. "Toy Camera") to be applied to the image? I have researched both Nikon models on DP Review and Photo.net and can't find any reference to that function in the Nikons.

Does Lightroom 4 allow the application of similar special effects? I have the program but have not installed nor researched it yet.

Thanks.

I will admit that I have not spent much time trying to make it useful, but a lot of stuff I have read seems to take your view of it. I just got Lightroom 4 and will try that awhile. Thanks for the response.

Pentax Photo Browser/Lab 3

I installed the Pentax Photo Browser/Lab 3 two years ago when I bought my K10D, and attempted to use it some. I shoot in JPG and sometimes viewed the pics in the DCIM Pentax Photo Browser 3 program, but usually downloaded them through Windows and viewed and tweaked them with the Office Picture Manager program, which was easier to use, with comparable functionality and effects, than the Pentax program. Once I learned a little more about RAW , I shot a few pictures in RAW and tried to process/play with them in the Pentax Photo Lab 3 program with not much success, so I gave up on that and continued to shoot JPG.

I have recently renewed interest in shooting RAW and post processing some photos, mostly for the challenge and the perceived fun of being a little creative in the processing. I am having problems operating the Photo Lab part of the Pentax program. When I open the Photo Lab section, either within the Photo Browser program or independently, all I can get is a very narrow tool bar with a few choices. I have seen how to open the sections opting for either Full Automatic or Custom processing but for the life of my I can't figure out how to get a photo into that program to even get started processing it.
I am obviously missing a simple process to get an image into the Lab program to start processing it, but for the life of my I can't figure it out.

Is the narrow tool bar typical for Photo Lab 3? How do I get a RAW image into Photo Lab 3 to even start processing it?

I also noticed yesterday that the lens data was not in the EXIF information on a few JPG's I downloaded into Photo Browser 3, although the lenses used for those photos were Pentax DA 18-55 kit lens and DA 55-300. All of the other information was in the EXIF data.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated so that I might be able to use and appreciate this program. Thanks!

Dark Frame Subtraction

Can someone point me to an explanation of Dark Frame Subtraction? I have done the "search" thing here and think that it has something to do with long exposures, such as one might use in night photography. I have only seen it mentioned in reference to a K-7, in terms of it kicking in after 30 seconds of exposure. I have never seen it mentioned with any other Pentax camera, including the K10D which I use. Thanks.

If this thread is in the wrong forum section, please move it to the correct one and excuse my mistake.

Douge, did you receive a standard warranty card with the camera? If so, in what way could there be a problem with warranty if you submit the card to Pentax and buydig is a bona fide Pentax dealer? Just curious as I am comtemplating buying a K5 from buydig. Thanks.

Is there a Pentax Extended Warranty available through buydig? Seems I saw something somewhere about one being available for $20, but that might have been for the lenses.
