Every manual focus lens I've ever used has a really long throw, like 270 degrees or something. You might be able to find some old F lenses for cheap, like some kit zooms or cheap aftermarket lenses, if they have an aperture ring. Autofocus lenses and some zooms have short throws. At your local camera store you might be able to find some old Vivitar or Tamron glass that would fit your needs.

Item for Sale
SCM Pentax 16-50mm f/2.8 DA* SDM

Asking Price
$650

Item Location
Albuquerque, NM

Item Description
I bought this lens about 11 months ago. I've come to prefer prime lenses so intend to go that route.

It comes with the original box, papers, lens hood, soft case.
Calumet 77mm UV filter installed. I believe these were made by Hoya at the time.

I will upload some more detailed photos soon of the glass and mount, plus a photo or two taken with the lens. If you want some even more detailed photos, send me an email and I'll send them to you.

Payment: Local buyers in New Mexico can pick it up from me, and you can bring a cashier's check. Otherwise, I'd prefer out-of-town buyers to pay via Paypal.

Item will be shipped via USPS with insurance and tracking, or, if the buyer prefers, UPS with insurance and tracking.

By the way I teach Journalism and see this stuff all day long. It's like purgatory. Some of the least-functioning—in terms of literacy—are also some of the farthest to the right. There's nothing like eight years of home-schooling in front of Fox News to warp a person.

Hasselblad 503CW Vs. 645N

I own a Hasselblad system and find myself using it over any other camera I own for fine work, especially fine art, landscapes, architectural and close-ups. The magnified viewfinder allows for extremely precise focusing when you have the time. There are literally thousands of configurations for the system using various backs, lenses, viewfinders, body accessories and attachments. I have a setup with 50mm, 80mm and 120mm makro lenses that will cover most situations. I have a few extension tubes for close work with the makro-planar and a pair of film backs.

I wondered about trading in for a 645NII, which would work with my Pentax flashes and release, but I think the kinds of photography I would want to use it for would be different. Using the Hasselblad for me is a meditative experience. I can be perfectly happy with two exposures in a half hour in the field, because I'm forced to slow down. I used to use large format for that reason in part but had to stop because of the price of 4x5" sheet transparency developing. The 645NII shooting style would be too similar to the kind of photography I do with a 35mm camera, where I'm not as concern about print size but am trying to document or record.

Finally, the Hassy is built like a tank. If I ever can't find a rock to pound in a tent stake, I could use the Hasselblad.

Do you ever go to the Enchanted Lens Camera Club meetings? If so, we could meet up at Satellite before and go over K7 specs. I own one and live in town. I shoot weddings occasionally. I'm not sure exactly how much more you're going to get out of this camera than a K20D or K10D. I enjoyed my K10D a lot but upgraded when the K10D was damaged. Otherwise, I'd have just kept it going.
