I have the same problem with the Pentax AF540FGZ. It's incredibly irritating! It makes me miss older flashes, with button-only interfaces.
About the Cactus trigger/receivers, I've been using them for a while (V2s version) and am quite happy. Some users report unreliability problems, though - misfired or missed shots.

Zeiss ZK LBA - pics, notes, thoughts?

Agreed. The bokeh on the 50/1.4 is sickening. But, besides that, I find the IQ (sharpness, contrast, etc) excellent.

Considering the 35 mm versus 50 mm dilemma, I would start by considering which focal length is the most useful for me. A 35 mm on an APS-C sensor is equivalent to 52 mm. Some consider this a versatile focal length, but many find it boring (too close to the field of view in human vision). On the other hand, a 50 mm is equivalent to a 75 mm. Great for portraits! But the bokeh might be a problem if you're into large apertures... Allow me to (once again) shamelessly advertise my blog (link below), where you can find many images taken with the 50/1.4.

Any users of Zeiss DISTAGON 2.8/25 mm ?

I got the new mount from Leitax and performed the conversion myself. It's quite straightforward but requires a little patience. The site is very informative and described the entire procedure quite well. I've converted 5 Zeiss lenses from Contax/Yashica mount to Pentax K so far (I had a Contax 167MT). Feel free to ask if you have other questions.

I use a Zeiss Distagon 25/2.8 converted from Contax to Pentax mount. I've always enjoyed this lens. You can see some sample images in my blog: Exposing pixels (click on the label "Zeiss 25/2.8").

We'd better stop here, otherwise we'll probably be banned for discussing non-Pentax cameras in this forum :). I only owned the 167MT, but I loved it. Too bad Contax died before it had the chance to further improve the N digital.

Anyway, I've absolutely no regrets about using Pentax now (it was a comeback, actually). Specially now that I'm able to use some of my old glass.

Are you using a Canon body with the adapter and the C/Y lenses? On Pentax or Nikon you would loose infinity focus with an adapter between the body and the lens, right? By the way, were you a Contax camera user before?

Impressive shots of Colorado!

I think you should open that can! I would love to have an old Leica to put in front of my K10D! Unfortunately, Leicas seem to be expensive even in the used market, while many C/Y Zeisses are quite affordable. Now, whether a Zeiss is equivalent to a Leica, that's a whole other can of worms...

Switching the bayonets is relatively simple. My only problem was in removing the original bayonet screws, which were tightly glued in some cases. Everything else went smoothly. So now I am the proud owner of four converted Zeiss-Contax lenses: Distagon 25/2.8, Planar 50/1.4, Sonnar 85/2.8 and Sonnar 135/2.8.

Note that the replacement bayonets are available for most MM versions, but only for the AE version of the Planar 50/1.7 and the Japanese AE version of the Sonnar 85/2.8.
As I mention a couple of times in the blog, my only disappointment was that my good old Planar 85/1.4 could not be converted...

Unfortunately I haven't been following this forum for a while. It was a very pleasant surprise to find this excellent thread when I returned, with many great photos taken with Zeiss glass.
I started using Zeiss with a Contax 167MT, back in the times of 35mm film. Then I turned to digital and got a K10D. More recently, thanks to Leitax converters, I've been able to adapt some old Zeisses to Pentax K mount and I it has been wonderful being able to use these lenses again!

I wonder if there are other former Zeiss C/Y mount users reading this?

I'm feeling pretty stupid now... the photos look indeed quite crappy after uploading... I should have previewed more carefully before posting. I'm linking a couple below, without uploading, just to try to save face...

Yep, I uploaded the photos with a larger size and they were automatically resized, thus the softness. I should have noticed that! This way the post ends up missing the point. Sorry about that.

Poll: Question for 16-50mm owners

A lot has been said, in this and other forums, about problems with the DA* 16-50. Softness, chromatic aberration, focusing issues, lemons... This lens just got a bad reputation, which is probably making some potential buyers look for alternatives.
I actually got a 16-50 for my K10d a few months ago and was initially a bit apprehensive about having made a bad choice. I have been using it as my walkaround lens (I also have a DA* 50-135, but I use it only in particular occasions). I now believe this is a good lens with a reasonable price tag. Ok, it isn't the sharpest lens ever and CA is definitely an issue, but it takes more than shapness tomake a good photo and CA is easily corrected by software. I think this is a versatile, fast and well built lens.
QC issues have been mentioned as the reason for some of the problems, but I'm wondering whether some of the complains have a psychological factor behind them, influenced by all the bad comments.
I'm posting a few shots from my August trip to some of the Azores islands, taken with this lens. All photos were RAW-processed in Silkypix in the following manner (I do this procedure with all the photos I keep, independently of the lens used):
- CA correction.
- Cropping/rotation for improving composition.
- Tone curve adjustment for exposure tuning.

There are no award winners here, just vacation photos. Any comments are welcome. I think it would be especially interesting to know the feelings of other DA* 16-50 owners on this lens.

Silkypix and ICC printer profile problem
Posted By FDM
Replies: 2

I've tried to use a printer ICC profile supplied by a pro photo lab in order to preview in Silkypix the final output results. However, I noticed that the colors looked too strange after loading the profile (too much orange saturation, for example). Out of curiosity, I loaded the same profile into PS and the results were much more reasonable.
I asked Silkypix support about why the software was not using the ICC profile properly and got the following response (after sending them the actual ICC file for inspection):

"However, the ICC profile that you sent was a profile for printers.
"SILKYPIX Developer Studio 3.0" does not support the ICC profile for the printer.
Unfortunately, "SILKYPIX Developer Studio 3.0"
does not support the color management for the printer.
We hope you will understand this situation."

Does this mean that Silkypix doesn't support ANY printer ICC profile or just the particular one I've tried to use? Has anyone tried this before? I'm not experienced in color management and profiling so any comments will be much appreciated.

I've recently purchased Silkypix (SILKYPIX Developer Studio) and I'm quite happy. It costs about 110 USD. I've briefly tested DxO before and I'm not so sure that the specialized lens correction features are really that important.
