K7 - PC Sync not working

Thanks. I remember reading about that issue awhile back - I've used them for a few years without issue till now. I guess I can hook em up to an oscilloscope and see for myself what voltage I get.

Either way, if that would have shot my camera circuits I imagine it shouldn't be working at all??

oh and yes - i've tested the lights with another camera that fires. the strobes themselves or the connection do not appear to be the problem.

K7 - PC Sync not working

I'm posting here before I contact support - but perhaps someone here's stumbled through this issue.

I use a K7 with its pc sync port to fire Norman 202 power pack lights. I had a shoot last year where they were working fine - the next week I had another shoot and all of a sudden the lights stopped firing.

The lights flash when I connect them to the camera - but not when I take a photo camera (on X-Sync mode, or anything else under the 1/180 sync limit).

I just ordered a hot shoe adapter - and yet again the same problem happens! The strobes fire when they're connected but not when I take a photo.

No idea what's going on here. I do have a Pentax hot-shoe flash which I lent a friend. Everything else functions as normal.

Thanks!

It's ok! I figure this photo is a bit too abstract for a photo contest anyway & it's quite old.

Thank you though! I sporadically upload photos here: guidoanselmi on deviantART

that's one of the better pregnancy photos i've seen.

that's also not saying much. the studio work is well done and the first post was right on w/r/t controling levels.

i suppose a useful crit would be to brace her neck with a pillow so her face is tilted up toward the camera so it's a bit more personable. as it stands there's no clear point for the eye to go on account of the negative space. a visible face would help.

I don't think details is particularly a problem. I'm typically pretty critical but it's a good photo on its own merits.

Post work was done pretty well - midtones really do dominate the photo but your contrast is predominate at the top of the frame so the lazy eye wanders there. You can do a bit of masking and do parts of it piecemeal but it's just overkill.

youre totally spot on. no good photo was ever taken that had black shadows or blown out highlights. em i say, and the poor who have clearly inferior lenses when not at f/5.6 or whateva.

I got a Fuji GW690II a little bit ago which is pretty amazing with a fixed 90mm f/3.5:

Though it and my Mamiya RZ died on a really windy beach in Big Sur (repaired the former and had to send in the latter).

Of course my Pentax digital clicked away happily while my 645N was back at home taking a break.

Poses are good for all of them, imo, but they're all wayyy to soft.

#1 you chopped off her hand.

You have a distracting hot spot on the wood panels in #2.

3rd is the strongest.

No need to stop down to f/8, especially if you're shooting at 1600.

Dunno if you wanted the motion blur, but it doesn't really work thematically for me but that's entirely subjective. v :) v

both are pretty good portraits, though:

in 1, the look is a little vacant
in 2, her head's a bit crooked.

Schraubstock did a nice quick & dirty edit, though contrast is still pretty high. Break this down into layers for sky, grass, etc and adjust manually in photoshop/gimp. You can use a semi-opaque soft light layer to good effect in bringing out the double rainbow I'm sure.

Seems ok, the look's a little funny but then again self-portraits are tough. It's a bit of a tight crop, though.

Maybe you should upload to a different server/use a different host? Truthfully, I've never seen sharpness degraded with servers but just different color profiles used (I guess unless you server-side SW resized it...). If that's the case, upload naively to like 800x600 or some web-compatible size.

Anywayyy, framing seems ok!

1. Learn how to use lights. Lighting's too harsh as someone pointed out - so learn to bounce or get some modifiers. Also you have your keying off/it looks like there's some other lights elsewhere.
2. Composition/directing. The last one you posted is really distracting with how it cuts at the elbows. The one with the farmer's hat & elbow needs the model to pose with her back straighter as her posture is bad. The three portrait shots aren't too bad w/r/t this.
3. Processing. Starting off at 6400 kinda kills you. In the first photo, though, you have the super saturated lips which are pretty bad. In other photos including the first, it's clear her roots aren't colored. You might want to dodge/burn or bring in levels on the left for a darker look with what you have.
