Landscape The last rays of the setting sun...

Winters here aren't really too hard to take :) just caught the last rays of the setting sun while waiting for the sunset. This is a 15 frame stitch in PS, but the remarkable thing (to me at least), is that they are shot at 18mm focal length. I have (had? ) a self imposed rule of a minimum of 35mm for pano stitches, and while you can see the distortion in the aircraft contrail curling overhead, I thought the overall effect was quite pleasing.

Thank you. it makes me realise how long it is since I've done a lot of this, so obsessed with timelapses. Must start doing it again.

Wow, could almost be Australia "winks". makes a change from moodily lit, rugged grandeur we normally associate with Scotland. Nice capture.

All with the same lens. In fact everything have shot for the last 8 years has been on the same lens, the Sigma DC 1;3.8-5.6 18-125mm HSM. Just such a versatile lens--my only ambition is to add a Samyang 14mm f2.8 for night sky shots. I have Pentax SMC K mounts of all sizes going back to when I first bought Pentax in the seventies, and none of the fixed focal length lenses can better this Sigma, overall.

I use LRTimelapse for processing the TL's . There are more on that page, including some which are edited highlights put together in Premiere for longer sequences. Very enjoyable, and a lot easier to do now than it would have been with a Super- 8 in the seventies, I'll bet :-)

Thank you for the kind comments. I've just come to realise how few still photos' I've done this last year, since getting the timelapse bug. It get very addictive , watching the stages of a good sunset. here are some of my better ones , if you are interested. All shot with the K-70 on Interval. All short in duration.

I had some issues in PS--it was shot as a much wider perspective, but some of the outmost frames just wouldn't stitch up. I didn't have a tripod handy, which is my preferred method of shooting for panos, so my handheld, while careful, may have not had enough overlap. PS is generally very good at matching them up, but several sequences were basically useless.

A large scrub fire must be burning somewhere up here in this vast landscape as the smell is in the air and smoke is muddying the colours of the sky. This was sunset last night, 14-shot pano stitch in PS. very muddy colours.

Oh, isn't that annoying. To use a restrained turn of phrase :-) I do a lot of panos myself, and that is something you always need to guard against, but not always successfully, in my case. How many exposures in the stitch? looks to be a considerable number.

Thank you all. It really was just a one-off in that sequence, virtually everything else was behind cloud or heavy rain. Grateful to be there to capture it

There are late storms around in the Pilbara this year, as we go into autumn. I had decided to try some timelapses of passing storms that wouldn't necessarily give showing good lightning, but the flashing, illuminated clouds could be interesting. I did a couple of sequences, then set up for a third one, which I realised was coming straight at me. It was mostly just lit clouds and very little visible forking, then, this. This is a single shot pulled from the sequence, very little cropping and not much PP. I've done a fair bit of lightning over the last 10 years, but this would have to be one of my best, IMO. The exposure was only 3 secs, instead of my usual 20-30 seconds for lightning, as I needed frames for the TL.

very nice. Great skies this time of year, although most of my efforts have been timelapsing. the movement in a stormcloud like that can be amazing.

As someone who works in industry and mining, you have summed it up very well. The everyday can actually have moments of brilliant lighting opportunities. Great capture!
