Weird colour problem in files exported from Capture One 22

Sorry to be a bit dense here: I found the "pack as EIP" option - and then the file that I shared appeared in my session folder, so I assumed this was the correct file. So... I didn't get a pop up asking me where to save the file: Do you have any idea where I might be able to find it after doing the "pack as EIP"? (I am not feeling particularly smart right now, but thanks for your patience)

---------- Post added 08-15-22 at 12:55 AM ----------

I tend to agree - I mean, the output IS the "true effect", since it is different from the original and also from the previews. Getting a file out that ressembles the preview seems impossible expect as the screen captures that I shared.

But the yellow beak is there at 100% zoom AND with the "proofing label" visible. I tried these two suggestions out at the very beginning. Everything INSIDE C1 shows a yellow beak, everything exported from it shows a desaturated one.

However, if I zoom in/out or apply various adjustments, the yellow on the beak sort of flickers of-and-on-again briefly. So I guess the issue has to do with the preview function. The thing is, I would REALLY like not to desaturate the beak!

No, it was there all along, in the main menu when I right click. I was just a bit slow to find it!

Anyway, thanks a million for your offer to look at the issue. The file is uploaded to my google drive, here:

Nothing happens when I right click, so I googled "pack as EIP". Apparently this option is not accessible for .dng-files?

I tried ticking the "color tag" box. Funny thing: When I tick the box, the orange on the beak sort of flickers on-off very quickly. But the export looks the same with the box ticked, unfortunately.

My dropbox is very full, and I should look into cleaning it up some time... :) But I uploaded the .dng to my google drive, and you are very welcome to see how it behaves inside your software. I think the problem is more general though, and it is probably linked to high ISO. The default noise reduction with C1 is very agressive and pretty much desaturates everything, so I drag the color-slider down a lot in my high iso photos, since K3iii has pretty decent high iso performance - and I prefer a bit of noise to very agressive denoising anyway.

The dng-file is here: MHHH2682.DNG - Google Drive

Correct! As long as I stay inside C1, everything is fine.

Windows 10 Home.

Session

A user on the c1-forum suggested this, so I tried to turn on proofing - it made no difference. The problem only becomes visible in the exported file

I followed your instructions - for a moment I thought I had it, because I don't actually import the images to my sessions, I just direct C1 to the correct folder using the library menu - but unfortunately the export looks identical to the others. I guess that makes sense, since I did notice something strange going on with the colours in previous sessions.

Thank you for offering to look at the file. I tried to find the "Pack as EIP" option... but I failed. It is in the export dialogue window?

I wish it was that simple. I changed the setting from sRGB to Adobe RGB based on advice from the CP1-forum. But it made absolutely no difference.

I will try out your other bit of advice about the metadata when I get home from work. I thought that only affected which information was included and not the actual processing? Anyway, definitely worth a shot!

Thank you for your advice.

This forum has been brilliantly helpful many times before, so I am keeping my fingers crossed:

I bought CP1.22 some months ago, and I am mostly happy with the software. But I had a bit of an issue with the photos I exported after editing. I thought the colours looked wrong, somehow, overedited maybe.

I ended up with a building suspicion that the exported pictures looked different from the edits I had made.

Now the other day I took a picture of a wood pigeon in our garden, and with this picture the difference is very obvious. The first link is the exported picture. The second link is the picture as it looks inside capture one 22. The third picture is the export dialogue window inside CP1.22.

I am doing something wrong, obviously - but I can't figure out what!

I posted in the capture one support forum as well, but noone has been able to help nail the problem so far https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/6226012881949-Someth..._6271024767517

Here is a slightly different moon shot. I was visiting my brother's house i Tampa while the moon was full, and while the moon was about to set and a lot of birds became active, I thought I might be able to catch a moon-flyover. So I stopped down to f10 with enough light for ISO 640 / 1/1000 sec, aimed and hoped - and this white ibis was collaborative.

Not technically impressive maybe, but it made me happy! :)

Capture one upgrade - with or without styles?

And that's the right attitude, of course. Styles could become the opposite of a learning opportunity, if they became short cuts in place of figuring out what the individual photo needs.

I guess I had this lurking doubt that I was missing out on something. That, just possibly, people more brilliant than myself had figured out ways to bring out unseen potential in my photos that I would never arrive at myself.

Well, it sounds silly enough when I write it. You make a lot of sense - and your advice saves me money: What's not to like? :)

Thank you acoufab, this was exactly the kind of advice I was looking for! :)

Like you, I find the autoadjust too heavy on the contrast: If I apply it, I generally lift the shadows a bit and compensate with clarity. I am generally in favour of more subtle adjustments, and when I do experiment a bit I often return for a second edit, because I end up finding the results overprocessed. Also, now I looked through the example photos for some of the styles, and I think I will get more out of my own experimenting, really. Like you say, the extra cost is substantial.

I used to do some paid work, but these days I am more than busy enough with my day job, which pays better anyway. So at the moment photography is just for fun. Nah, I probably don't need the styles. Thanks!

Capture one upgrade - with or without styles?

Hmm. I am not a very smart consumer. I usually buy stuff when I feel the need to buy it rather than picking the right time and best price.

So... I am about to upgrade my Capture One from vs 20 to 22, perpetual license. I think I picked a time without special offers or discounts.

When I first switched from lightroom, I bought a version without the styles, because creative control.was a main consideration in my choice of software and so pre-made styles seemed silly. But now I'm not sure. Quite often I settle for the autoadjust anyway, and maybe styles could be inspirational, or a learning opportunity even.

Is anyone in here using styles? Are they worth the substantial extra cost?

Any thoughts are appreciated! :)

Which brand was my H-shaped dual camera strap?

Thanks - you guys are simply amazing!

Oldbayrunner nailed it - this is the one I had. I highly recommend it. Highly recommend not losing it as well. :)

It just occured to me that the buckles on the small straps that are still attached to my camera houses might have the brand printed into the plastic, and they do.

I have lost my favourtie accessory: My h-shaped camera-strap which allows me to carry two houses in the field, one mounted with a 300mm, and one with a versatile zoom or a macro. I have had this setup for a few years, and absolutely loved it.

But my strap is gone. I searched everywhere, and now I have decided that I need to buy a replacement. The problem is... I simply can't recall the brand! I tried googling and I tried searching my brain, my mailbox and my old posts in here, but I can't find it!

It wasn't Joby, for sure - I had a joby-strap before this, and it frayed and disappointed. This one was solid, comfortable, perfect... but which brand was it?

I THINK I bought it based on a recommendation in here, so maybe this forum will help me out once more!

You are probably right about the future of lingering precautions. You are definitely right about the noise and possibly the blur as well, but this is sort of my holiday photo strategy: I try to capture things as they happen, and now with the K1ii I have decided to rely on ambient light - even if it means a slightly over optimistic shutter speed. My hands (and stabilisation) are steady enough, but the subjects tend to move.

Which is one reason why none of my Christmas photos qualify for the monthly contest's "Seasonal" theme - but they do their job well enough of capturing the atmosphere.

Help - self timer button on K1ii does not respond!

That... was the problem exactly!

Thanks to all of you for your good and helpful suggestions. It was all a bit silly: My mother in law had one "all-I-want-for-Christmas"-wish, which was a photo of all her children, spouses and grandchildren together. Four of them flew in on December 20th from the US, and I had to rush there from a manuscript deadline workday to get the shot in time to have it printed for Christmas. So, there I was, my brain fried from too much work and a K1ii which (thanks, corona) I had not tried out with a self-timer before. I simply never noticed that centre button before.

Well, that ought to teach me to read the manual... :)
And now I learned about the lock button too. Thank you Ole!

Here's another one to make up for the blatant lack of bird in my other BIF-photo. I'm not sure it counts either though. It flew without wings, apparently...

Capture One Pro 21 Update is Great and Frustrating at the Same Time

I'm still fairly new to C1 and although I watched some tutorial videos I have not been a very structured learner, and I still stumble on things by accident. I bought C1 20 just before the update, and didn't upgrade to 21 yet, since the reviews in here were lukewarm, and I thought my time might be better spent getting to know the program in the first place.

Maybe I will just skip an update, I don't know.

It would be really great if they implemented support for Pentax cameras. I have not tried using the program with a supported camera, so I guess it is hard to know what I am missing, but I noticed one thing the other day: I had been wondering why all my high iso photos from my K1ii and K3iii were very soft in C1 - and now I noticed that there is an auto-setting for noise removal that activates at iso 3200 and above, very much above what those two cameras require. I guess a profile for those specific cameras would include more appropriate settings for high iso levels... and other things.

Overall, I find my own level of creative control much higher than in my old LR. Apart from the fact that I had to change, since LR went cloud-subscription-mode-only, and that is not for me.

Thanks for the encouragement. I might. As it is, I spend an awful lot of time shooting things that a smart person/camera probably wouldn't - such as way too small birds flying way too far off. (Danish wildlife has been hunted recklessly with other things than cameras for centuries - flight distance is ridiculous).

Experimenting with smarter settings is definitely something I will consider as a holiday activity this summer. For now, let's see if switching hold from low to high has an effect.

It was set to low. Changed to high now, I will see if that fixes it.

That sounds smart. A bit smarter than myself, possibly. I know these things are very much a matter of practising, but selecting focus points while panning with birds in flight is beyond my multitasking skills I am afraid. But I am pretty sure that hold AF DOES work even when I select the center point AF (At least I have managed to follow subjects and keep them in focus even if I didn't keep them in the center - I THINK the center point is the initial focus point, but the tracking uses a wider area. Otherwise my damselfly-in-flight definitely would not have been in focus here, since I did NOT manage to keep it centered while tracking. (The photo is cropped to recenter the damselfly, but it was at the edge of the original composition)

You assume correctly. This allows me to keep the button pressed when I want AF-C and let it go if I want focus to stay where it is. Things change fast and unpreditably with birds and animals, and I want somethng that allows me to stay in control without having to think too much first.
