Item for Sale
Tamron -F 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 with SDM contacts

Asking Price
175.00 USD

Item Location
Michigan (United States)

Item Description
with the recent purchase of the Pentax DA 1.4x AW, I decided to part with my excellent Tamron MC4 1.4x teleconverter. I've owned many 1.4x-2.0x converters, the Tamron has been the best all-around non-dedicated teleconverter to date.

It works with screw-drive and SDM lenses (comes with front and rear caps)

For Sale - Sold: Rokinon 35mm f1.4 UMC -with Issues for Parts

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Rokinon 35mm f1.4 UMC -with Issues

Asking Price
225.00 USD

Item Location
Michigan (United States)

Item Description
I got this lens from a pentax user and videographer who had de-clicked and used it mostly on his Panasonic GH4. I put a ball bearing from an old -A lens, and used it for a few years with no issues. I used it extensively on my K5 and K3 with katzeye, the lens proved to be excellent optically, very sharp and wider apertures, In IQ i found it to be comparable to the Sigma art 35, sans AF. The lens has apperture issues, selling for parts (perhaps someone with better skills and knowledge can fix it)

Aesthetically: Excellent, no wear or visible issues

Optically: Clean, with no issues

Mechanically: About a year ago i noticed when using the aperture ring to stop down manually, the lens aperture would slip. To fix it, i had to remove the rear mount and preposition the lens every time it happens. The lens works for a time when the aperture is set to past F-22 to -A setting, using the camera body to adjust the aperture, but if you stop down manually, chances are the inner mechanism will slip and it has to be readjusted. In addition the aperture ring turns during the attachment and detachment of the lens, exacerbating the issue and the chances of the aperture mechanism misalignment. Selling for parts as is.

Comes with Original caps, box and soft cover.

K5 + Rokion 35mm @ f3.5

I'd second Michael's opinion, the DA* 55mm f1.4 is the way to go, very sharp from f1.8 to 2.8, shallow DOF, superior contrast, colors (Zeiss Otus -like character IMO)...excellent in all regards.

I don't own the Rokinon 85mm unfortunately but I've handled many 50-85 lenses in the past. Here's a medley of pictures taken with different lenses same subject, Sigma EX DG 85 & 50 f1.4, Sigma EX DG 50mm, Da* 55mm f1.4, -F 50mm f1.4, Supertakumar 50mm f1.4 (8 elements) (made an flickr album cat pictures | Flickr

(the King of the heap) Sigma EX 85mm @ f3.2 (Pentax K5)

Pentax DA* 55mm @ f2.0 (K3)

and my favorite: Super-Tak 50/f1.4 8 elements @ f1.4 on K3

a 24mm FF high quality prime is long due, I'd also settle for a 20mm prime. For uwa the Irix firefly 15mm would be the best lens for the price out at the moments as long as one can get a good copy

The Sigma 35 art is excellent although prone to sample variations due to Sigmas less than stellar quality control. After testing my copy for optical defects, a small AF adjustment of -2, the lens has performed flawlessly ever since

i remember liking the IQ of the F 17-28 on APSC,( fish eye on the wide end, normalizing towards 24-28mm) i sold it before getting the chance to use it on the K1. i saw one sell for $200 some weeks back on eBay.

Don't forget to adjust AF calibration for your lenses when using the DA 1.4x tc

Correct, your previous AF calibration of +1 on the DA* 300, would be "erased" from the camera's memory once the TC is attached, you have to manually input such adjustment with the lens + tc attached once more. Once done, the camera will remember the Lens + TC combo setting. In my testing the K1 consideres the lens + tc as a new lens, creating an unique profile for each lens + tc combination. One could theoretical have a +1 adjustment on the DA* 300, and then an -4 adjustment on the lens + TC combo, the camera will revert to +1 for the DA* 300 when the TC is removed, and apply -4 automatically once the TC is attached. I would recommend to perform a whole new set of calibrations optics, when attaching the TC to an already micro-adjusted telephoto lens.

That is a good point, one shot cannot accurately convey the offset. I took over 275 calibration shots this past Saturday for 8 lenses. I keep all info of my lenses in an excel database, (serial number, calibration adjustments before and after firmware updates), +1 was the calibration info on file of the DA* 300, coupled with 1.4x tc it required the same amount of adjustment.

On a side note, the camera body will keep a record of the lens + tc af adjustment when specified by the user, otherwise the combo will "0"

Here's some residual photos from my telephoto lens calibration over the weekend. All the pictures have been taken with the DA 1.4x attached, @ f8.0 on a tripod, MUP with remote shutter. The F 135 has remarkable IQ given for it's age...i love the little guy

Size comparison between the lenses, in case someone wants to compile an IQ/ size graph...

On a side note, once the lenses hood are taken in consideration, the size advantage of the F 135mm its all but negligible ;)

I was calibrating my lenses this weekend, and noticed that when I attached the pentax da 1.4x Tc to my lenses, all the saved AF micro adjustments would be reset to "0" . I don't know if this is something that's been covered before in the forum, but thought to give you guys a heads up on the issue.

DA* 300 + 1.4x Tc (left "0" adjustment, right "+1" adjustment)

It's an exacta mount preset Red (T) tessar, smaller than the M42 tessar closer in size to a Jupiter 3, or other small rangefinder lenses. It's a fun little lens, (due to my choppy conversion) it works as a close focus prime :), really fun lens to play around with. I also have the M42 Voigtlander Color Ultron, which is similar to the HFT Planar, very sharp little lens, close in IQ to the Super-Takumar 8 elements which is one of the best old fifties IMO.

The -A 400mm f5.6 is a very nice lens in terms of IQ, a bit big and prone to CA. It also worth looking at a smaller Tamron SP 300 f5/6 54B adaptall not a bad lens if my memory serves me right
