This was taken at Cape Spear, Newfoundland. I had been there at dawn to take pictures of the lighthouses, but this was shot in the afternoon as the weather began to change.

If curves wouldn't take care of the blown out sky, I would crop some off the right. Great subject, good composition, just a bit much exposure.

Very imaginative idea. Kind of PR for psychopathic killers. This will be ad interesting campaign: Psychopaths are people too, ya' know. The parallel would be the recent Doonesbury series where the guy was hired as PR for a Middle Eastern dictator.

Thanks for the comments. I hope the trees will really change soon. We have had a cold snap that may encourage fall to come in full force.

I haven't posted in awhile. I was out last weekend checking out a garage sale lens I found. Taken with K20D and Pentax SMC-A 28mm f2.8 that I picked up.

Very good work. I visited your smugmug gallery and you did very well with your first roll and processing.

I remember processing my first roll at Boy Scout camp. I shot a lot of Tri-X and Plus-X that I processed myself. Almost makes me want to pull out the ME and have a go. I still have a developing tank in the basement.

Thanks for the comment, JMR. I was a little surprised when this thread popped up again after 18 months.

On the second shot, I was trying to capture the vastness of the low, rolling hills of north-central Missouri and how different it must have been from Ireland.

Frank,

These are indeed well done. My father-in-law was buried in the National Cemetary at Fort Leavenworth. I served several months with 1st of the 3rd Infantry at Arlington where we did the military funerals for Army vets and men killed in Vietnam. The rows of headstones are a moving sight.

I too am the new owner of a K20D. I moved up from a K110D. The difference is amazing. I did my first shoot of a local Traditional Irish Music Session yesterday and am more than pleased with the results.

I agree this is better than your previous try.
I shot a lot of motorsports pictures this summer at Heartland Park and at local autocrosses. You have captured the excitement with this one.

These shots certainly bring back memories for me. We used to travel 40 Highway from Kansas City to Marshall, Mo. every summer when I was a kid. I-70 killed most of the traffic and swallowed a lot of the road.

You have captured a piece of history.

Asad,

Good captures of the race. The angles add some movement and give some idea of how close to the edge these guys ride. Cycling doesn't get much coverage here in the U.S.

This fall, Missouri will hold the first Tour of Missouri. It will be part of the new U.S. Pro Cycling tour. I hope to see some of it.

Good capture, Jer. It has been awhile since I had the opportunity to do any offshore sailing, really brought back the feeling with this one.

I don't think the tilted horizon hurts the first shot. Both are good.

In my humble opinion, you have done very well for your first shots. I agree with the above comments, concentrate on capturing the shot you want. Don't be concerned with post-processing because you will do a lot less of it if you get your capture the way you envisioned it. No amount of pp work will save a poor exposure.
I've been going for the straight out of the camera look lately. I use the same techniques I used with a film SLR. I bracket exposures when I have a wide dynamic range. It is working for me with what I am shooting.

Keep shooting and keep posting.

WOW! We don't see ships like these in Missouri. There is nothing like these old (or new) wooden boats.

The crafsmanship in the wooden rowboat and the wood canoe look superb.

Great captures!
