That sounds pretty good... you will always be in AF-sel mode if you set that then. Hopefully they add this custom setting to all the bodies going forward.

Unfortunately I'm still using a k200d and don't have easy access to either a K3 or K1 for testing. On my camera, when I select AF-select in the menu system, the only thing that the D-pad buttons do is select the AF point. Which is nice. No confusion. My understanding with the K3 is that when you access certain button options (e.g. drive mode), then you might forget to put it back in AF-select. It is also my understanding that the K1 has this same behaviour by default, but by changing the function I posted about before, you can "improve" the behaviour, but I don't really understand how.

But I understand this is rather nitpicky!

Hmm, maybe that's not so bad then... I had thought it reset with power cycling (still notgreat, because you could forget to put it back into AF mode after using the other options). But then I don't understand how the K1 behaviour is different with the custom function enabled. Can anyone explain this? But maybe off topic.

I think the change in AF selection behaviour is a main reason I have not yet upgraded from k200d to k3ii... Seems weird to not be able to just have the d-pad dedicated to AF-select. I am hoping that at least the K1 option that lets you set that as the default becomes available in an upcoming aps-c body.

If it has a built-in flash? (kinda hoping no, or at least that it does not lose GPS)

Changing my K200D for what???

I am in the same situation, looking for k200d upgrade... The k200d has a top LCD, so if you are used to using that (as I am) then you should note that the newer lower end bodies do not have one. Also, it seems to me that the ergonomics of the ks1/ks2 are not as good as the k200d, so if you are used to the feel, thumbrest etc, might be worth trying one of those cameras out first.

For me I was initially thinking k3ii, then was looking at K1, but then realized the canadian price after tax is $2800 and now thinking back towards APS-C... currently debating between used k5iis, k3ii, or waiting for the k3iii or whatever... I think I'd like the tilty screen of the K1, and it seems to me that the K1 has a custom setting that improves the behaviour of the AF-point selection mode (avoids having to press button each time to select point).

Yep... not trying to defend his review. And he risks his reputation if he posts poor reviews. Even some Canon shooters will recognize the flaws...

Why can't I go out and buy a Nikon camera and post my review of it on YouTube? In this era anyone can post anything. There's no newspaper or anything standing behind my review. If you don't like it, that's fine...

I guess it is now left up to the viewer to determine if what they are watching is trustworthy etc. There are pros and cons...

Saying that people who don't know Pentax shouldn't review it sounds a bit elitist though... and I'm not sure that's the best way to spread the news about new products... Of course it would be good if reviewers realized that they might not be entirely familiar with the system, but perhaps even an imperfect review is often better than no review. In this particular case there did seen to be a few things that were over the top, but attacking the reviewer probably isn't really going to help...

How about that custom function from the K1 that makes the AF selection the default for the 4-way buttons... (k3ii does not have that does it?)

I sent mine to Pentax and they charged me to replace some part they said was broken. It did seem a bit tighter afterwards. I think it might be back to usual now though. Maybe it is broken again. Hard to compare how much it really moves between copies by typing on the internet... Doesn't seem to be that big a deal, but if you start doing brick wall tests or shooting newspapers with the lens in different orientations you will probably find some stuff you don't like. I stopped doing that though.

I guess the idea with the more pixel advantage is to display/print at any given resolution you can average more pixels to reduce noise...

Guess my memory is just bad! It's nice to have these quick links, but obviously don't want it too cluttered either. I guess you can tell from post counts which the most popular forums are and use that to guide decisions...

Cameras drop down menu on the site title bar now has a direct link to the K3 forum instead of the DSLR forum, is this intentional? The next line is to the group of SLR forums. Anyway, seems different somehow?

Upgrade to K1 or K3ii + lens(es)

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps unsurprisingly a lot of support for the K1 option!

I hadn't really considered using the 16-45 on it, but I guess it would even "work better" in crop mode than with my k200d! But swapping out for the DFA28-105 could work, or maybe the upcoming DFA wide angle prime (uh oh talking about buying lenses again).

As you can imagine since I'm still shooting the k200, I'm not in a huge rush, so I could wait for the K1. As UncleVanya points out though, it's pretty easy to spend someone else's money! But it would be hard to be disappointed no matter what just need to save my pennies and make a decision.
