Thematic The Earth's Bones

There's actually a cliff, of sorts, along the bay just south of downtown Miami, locally known as "Silver Bluff". Neat thing, but not a part of town I get to on any regular basis. Will share it if I ever do get over there. I think it's part of the core of an old reef. But the quarries in the Keys, yes, they are (were) cutting "keystone", a softish limestone very thick with fossil corals and such. Beautiful stone, but I think authorities have shut down most of the quarries now, to protect the stone. My boss has thousands of square feet of keystone masonry, including patio pavers, column and wall sheathing, etc. around his house.

Thanks. There were a lot of odd bits clamped, tied or otherwise fastened to it around the edges.

A few more of our outside, semi-feral gang. These guys are very well socialized, extremely friendly.

Murphy and Socks, and Roxy. Roxy is Murphy's mom, she has not yet been spayed but will be soon.

Beautiful! First one is some sort of Oncidium, second one is Epidendrum nocturnum (very fragrant at night, a Florida native orchid, too), third one is a Paphiopedilum, one of the Asian "slipper" orchids. TFS!

OMG! Cats! I'm in! Got 3 in the house (all rescues) and a bunch of semi-ferals in the yard -- most of whom have gone for The Ride to the county TNR service. A few holdouts, they will go as soon as we can get them trapped.

This is Rudy, one of the semi-ferals. Note the tipped left ear.

It was mind-blowing in the theater. Director's Cut is even more amazing, although we saw that on DVD, on an older (not flat screen or HD) TV. Still, amazing.

The Martian is very, very good.Tho' I'm not a big fan of Matt Damon, he was great in it. Personally, my fave Sci-fi of recent vintage is Avatar. There wasn't even a microsecond where I thought, "oh, OK, effects not 100% but I'll let that go..."

Ach, laddie, t'haggis has addled ye a bit. We've had this conversation before, sir. D'ye not recollect?

In how many of those fair burgs would you expect to find orchids in the back yard? Think on it, now, ye get only one guess...

(apologies for the bad Scots imitation)

Bogalusa?! No offense to the inhabitants thereof, but I'm quite sure they've appropriated the nickname from somewhere else. We've had it more than 100 years.

This is Bandit, one of the ferals in the colony here . The "tipped" left ear marks him as neutered (most of the colony has taken The Ride to be neutered; the county's animal services agency has an excellent TNR -- trap, neuter, return -- program for ferals.

That's a quote from HAL, in "2001: A Space Odyssey", whence the other line "It's full of stars!"

Wonderful image!
