Kinda boring in the Pentax full frame corner.

I said that 70-200 is on par with the top offerings from other companies. And I said that D FA 150-450mm isn't the lens Pentax is or will be known for, like for example FA31mm or 77. I did not say that it is not on par with the competition.

The number about Fuji I got from the interview I watched with Zack Arias (~1 min).

I wasn't brand bashing and if it sounded like that - my mistake. 70-200 is a stellar lens, I agree, it is on par with top offerings from other companies. Not so much for other lenses you mentioned. They are good, but they are not lenses Pentax is or will be known for (like DA, FA limited's).

Regarding Fuji, they are selling crazy amounts of cameras. Back when x100 was introduced to the market, BH would receive 200 units and it would disappear in 5minutes. And since then Fuji became a total different beast. XT-2 is pretty much a perfect camera and it will be a game changer for Fuji. Olympus doesn't even come close to Fuji.

"Dependant" is an exaggeration. Fast glass is a luxury item that is very useful in low light situations like Churches (some are really dark), shooting at night, events, indoors etc.

At the moment I shoot mostly with Sigma 35Art and Pentax 70mm on K3 and K5iis. I also carry 16-50 f/2.8 when I need more versatility and the 10-17 fisheye (looks nice in certain situations). Do I like this kit? Yes. Do I find myself wanting something wider, faster etc. sometimes? yes. Is it normal to want that? I think yes.

My ideal kit that I would carry to pretty much every shoot would be:

(On K1)
15-30 and 24-70 (available)
24mm f/1.4 or f/2 (not available yet)
35mm f/1.4 (available)
105mm f/2 (not available yet)

All should fit in the same backpack as the current kit.

Small correction - Tamron is weather sealed too. Is it weather sealed to the same standards as Pentax version? Nobody knows. Pentax version doesn't have IS, cuz it is already in body. Shouldn't it be cheaper/easier to make if it requires less parts? I am not an optical designer or anything close but it would be interesting to hear other opinions.

Pentax was my first camera and I am still shooting with it. That is how I make a living. i wouldn't be doing that if I didn't like it.

But I think it is pretty natural to seek higher quality glass as you grow as a photographer.

Pentax is already coming with big, heavy, fast zooms (rebadged or not), so fast primes should be coming too.

Not trying to accomplish anything or bother anyone with "whining", just sharing my opinion, discussing certain things about the brand.

All good points, but Pentax had years and years to work on lenses for the upcoming K1. Fuji is a small company too, but they came up with plenty of stellar lenses for their xpro's, Xt's etc in 2-3 years.

If I walked into a camera store tomorrow I could buy the tamron 15-30mm in Nikon/Canon mount for 922 euro or Pentax 15-30mm for 1600 (on sale, regularly it is 1700).

Who would be willing to pay ~74% more for a rebadged lens?

(I understand that prices vary in different markets).

I wish Tamron sold rebadged premium Pentax lenses at a cut rate not only to Canon/Nikon/Sony but to Pentax users as well.

Different people have different needs. I have no need for 250-600, just like other people might say that they are not interested in 15-30 f/2.8, 24mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 105mm f/2 etc.

I understand, but all that high quality legacy glass isn't made anymore and therefore is extremely hard to find and is very pricey.

And even then there are holes. For example, fast prime in the range of 105-135mm.

If Pentax continuous to rebadge Tamron lenses, it means they are no longer capable of creating high grade lens. All they do is rebadge and bump the price ridiculously. Tamron 15-30 costs ~950 euro if you shoot Nikon/Canon, but if you shoot Pentax it will cost you 1600-1700.

Except for 70-200 which lets presume is not a rebadged Tamron, when was the last time Pentax created a truly stellar lens?

P.S. sorry for negativity, just feeling little frustrated.

The perfect/best portrait lens for K-1

I wouldn't say that I have ever received complains about the noise, but I have noticed people turning heads.
In one photo shoot I was using DFA100mm which is super awesome for portraits. When the model heard the AF sound, she asked "Is your camera broken?".

Again, it is not a big deal. But a silent focus motor would make it a better lens.

I agree that in most situations slightly slower AF and AF sound will not make much of a difference. But if you are shooting a wedding ceremony in church and want to be discrete, screw-drive AF can be annoying. Especially if it fails to focus and goes from infinity to minimal focus distance. Also there is no QS, which would definitely just make prefocusing more convenient. 77 could definitely use a small upgrade (without ramping the price ridiculously).

135mm 1.4 would probably weight a ton. F2 would be plenty for 135.

I hope Pentax will announce a new lens in the range of 85-135 that will have an aperture of 1.4-2.0 at the Photokina.

77mm - short for my taste, slow to focus, loud, lots of CA.
85mm - is either Sigma which has AF problems or the old Pentax 85mm that is super hard to find and is very pricey.
100mm - there is a really amazing DFA100mm macro, but it is super slow to focus and extremely loud.
105mm - my favorite focal length which is non existent in the Pentax lineup.
135mm - non existent as well.

For some people the 70-200 will work, but if you want something lighter, brighter, sharper etc. you have no options at the moment.

21mm or (and) 70mm Ltd's.

Other limiteds are probably awesome too, but I haven't used them.

21 is super versatile and fun to use and 70 is absolutely amazing lens, one of the best Pentax lenses in my opinion.

If mkIV was 4000$ (or more), it would still sell like crazy. Canon (and Nikon) has an amazing and complete system and people will pay pretty much any price to use it. Pentax can't price their products in that range, cuz their system is far far from being complete.

Canon 5D mk IV doesn't look excited at all if you just look at the specs. But nobody knows, maybe it will be an awesome performer.

Canon has a huge user base, huge amount of amazing lenses, flashes, customer support etc, so it is enough for them come up with just above decent camera and it will still sell like crazy.

I had the same problem.
540FGZ is unpredictable and unreliable.

My advice - sell it if possible and get a Metz flash.

Lack of cameras - buy abroad? Warranties?

3 years ago when I had a wobbly 31mm Ltd I contacted Pentax regarding the international warranty.

I was told this:

To apply for International Warranty please provide the following information:

* Dated proof of purchase, which includes your name, address, and phone number
* Model name
* 7-digit Serial Number from the bottom of the camera

I provided them with this info and then they sent the warranty to me by mail. (I bought the lens when I was in the states and they sent me the warranty to Lithuania).

BUT since it was summer and I was busy shooting, I decided to wait a few months and then in August, 31mm was stolen :/ (it was quite a sad time, cuz I loved that lens)

So, if they sent me the warranty, I believe I would have received the repairs necessary.

I'd say look for a better deal. You can find this lens with working motor in very good/like new condition for 300-500.

I found one for myself for 300 a month ago and I really like this lens.

It is confusing why PF and DPReview came to such different conclusions regarding AF performance.

PF gave it 9/10 (very good), while DPReview concluded that the AF is poor (4-5?).

Maybe more K1 users can comment about their experience ;)

70mm 2.4 OR 100mm Macro WR - Portrait Lens

I use both and they are both really wonderful lenses for portraits (headshots). Both have really gorgeous color rendition, but 100mm macro isn't really sharp wide open, when 70mm is sharp straight from f/2.4. Also, on K5 the focus is really slow with the 100 macro, while on K3 it is noticeably faster.
