Well, mostly I get by with a white shoot through umbrella, compact light stand, and an AF360 flash. Those work great for most of I run across. Weights on the light stand are very nice to have on hand though. And I do have wireless triggers that I take out sometimes for the flash as well, if Im going to use multiple, or if its really sunny. I keep running into the issue of Pentax's built in flash controller not firing the strobe in direct sunlight.

So that looks great, but searching google I only found a few results on sites that linked to trek earth and the like, but have not seen any good photos on how to rotate the tilt mechanism, or how it locks. Any chance you could show some more images of how it works?

Ok, now for one more late reply to this thread.

Once you cut the M42 Retention ring, will it still work with the Pentax M42-K mount adapter?

Thanks!

How did my niece do?

Yeah, not bad at all.

To get one with the TTL prism is a good idea, if she does not have a handheld meter or use something like Sunny 16, it should help her out a lot.

Also, like many have said, the lens is a bit on the wide standard side, but 35mm is by no means limiting, in fact, now she can work with the greats (Cartier Bresson, anyone??) in there preferred focal length (Wide enough for the scene, close enough for intimacy).

She may want to augment that lens with a faster normal and a short tele for range, but both of those are cheap in comparison to the lens she has now, and easy to pick up used. However, for daylight outdoor work, her kit does seem very nice.

Well done indeed.

? for those that develop film at home

Depending on developer, cost will vary.

If you get real creative, and decide to go for straight Metal mixtures and other home-brewed concoctions, I would have to recommend some kind of Pyro developer (No real flames). It is a gorgeous developer that work with both density and silver itself, giving a high extended tonal range, and being dirt cheap. But slightly dangerous.

If you plan to print at home, again, mixing yourself can make some of the best developers known, esp with split baths, but some can get risky again, such as developers like Amidol.

Of course, the cheap AND easy way is to use Kodak Dektol for both film and paper, just standard for paper, and at a 1/37 dilution for film. It is fine grain and high detail, just watch it with pushed film.

Or you could also go the other route again, and start using Rodinal in a 1/500 ratio as a developer for around 2 to 3 hours of developing time, one agitation, and get some great negatives provided your film does not suffer from to much bromide drift, and that is about as cheap as you can go, as it will last for hundreds of rolls.

Best film body?

The MZ-S is without a doubt the best Pentax film SLR as far as feature sets go and ergonomics.

The PZ-1p is a great body at a low price, but clunky for my hands at least.

The LX is a hard and tough body with interchangeable finders and the ability to outlive any situation.

And the MX, for its great build and small size, it can do anything you need it to do, and still fit in your pocket with a pair of primes in the other.

;)

Of course, the MZ-S is the best of the best, as far as use every day and working with, and to see one with the 31mm Limited mounted, its just beautiful.

Considering film for the first time...

I have to agree with the above post. Cost is a great incentive to slow down and consider your images, but you can apply those same rules to digital. Its pretty straightforward to do that now, and to be honest, if you just capture a bunch of rather poor digital images that you delete later, why even both caring the weight in the first place and just enjoy yourself?

Oh, and as for the $1 per 6x7 images...

Try working 8x10, or even 4x5 for that matter. 4x5 Astia is $7 a sheet now, and $5 a sheet just for processing, not for scanning or anything else. But if you care to also pay to drum scan the stuff, 1gb file sizes will be coming back home to you! And are they ever gorgeous!

Oh, one last thought on film vs digital.

You may want to start looking at how the sky compares with the same exposure. You will notice your film will capture a lot more in the way of colour range. And also look for the tonality shifts, and where the image gets harsh gradients. Thats the true power left in the film market.

For Sale - Sold: FS: K10D kit, 14mm, 50mm Macro, 400mm

Hello, looking to sell my K10D kit from Halifax, NS.

I have the K10D, with grip, Wireless remote, three batteries, and strap, cord, etc.

It also has an 8gb card in the camera, mass storage for all the raws this camera can go through in an day.

I also have a Sigma 14mm F/2.8 lens, FA, that is just wonderful, and stays on the camera most of the time.

Also have a Pentax 50mm F/4 Macro lens, which is perhaps the sharpest macro I have used to date. Original K series.

I also have a Tokina 400mm F/5.6 A series lens, which works perfectly as well.

Im looking to get $1600 for the whole kit shipped in Canada.

If you are outside canada, thats fine too, but please allow for some shipping as well. This kit can be heavy in a box.

I would prefer not to split it, but if I can get a buyer for the entire kit, then I will split it up.

Email me for pics, but I will have to get a digital for images of the K10D itself, it is the only digital in my stable right now. I need to raise some funds for a leaf back for my GX-680...

Thanks
Steven

Hello, Sorry, I seem to have accidently deleted a bunch of the older PMs, and was wondering if I had left an infrared filter attached to the from of the lens. I can not seem to place that filter, and would greatly appreciate it back, as I have about 10 rolls of HEI left, and that is kinda necessary.

Thanks, and sorry for the odd post

Zooms vs. Primes

Ah, I am a primes man all the way.

I just love the look of them, and the simplicity they can allow for. There is one ring to deal with, and that is for focus for those of us who like to do it ourselves.

And they tend to be sharper, contrastier, and have much better flare control.

But zooms are much more convenient, that is true...

Selling My MZ-S Film SLR. This is the last of the great Pentax Bodies, and I know many would agree when I say it is the best FIlm SLR they have made.

It has no marks, works perfectly, comes with camera and grip, and has a year and a half left on the warranty.

$625

Shipping is not included, but is at cost from Lethbridge, Alberta.

Thanks!
