Help! Talk me into a CLA.

I really need to get my MX that I bought in 1979 CLA'd & all the light seals replaced. I haven't shot any film for over 20 years & probably never will again but it would be nice to have it in tip top condition. The thing you have to remember is that lubricant dries out & can gum things up if not cleaned & replaced...

Pentax K-3 II GPS Data

I was just looking at the GPS data on a photo I took a while ago (in Adobe Bridge) & was just wondering how to use it. Is there even a simple way (emphasise simple) to even show the location on a map?

How do you (or even do you bother at all) to use the GPS info in your photos?

Have you tried any of the high gloss metallic papers?

Like I said earlier, I bought the first ever Epson inkjet Photo printer (in 1997) and the results printing from scanned film were good enough for me to stop doing Ciba/Ilfochrome...

I canít remember it being that hard to get the exposure correct. We already had an Ilford exposure meter (the same one they were using at the demo we went to) & after doing a test strip it was pretty reliable.

And now that you mention it, I reckon we might have started with that Discovery Kit also.

Yes, 40 years ago, itís a bit depressing reallyÖ

I have just remembered that I went to a Cibachrome demo with my father at a camera store in Parramatta back in the day. You got to take one of your own slides & they had a big darkroom set up. Then a guy took you in & went through the whole process & you came out with a colour print of your slide. My dad had been doing b&w processing & printing for many years & any colour photography we did was colour slide. Almost exclusively Kodachrome. My dad was so impressed he pretty much immediately bought the basics to get started straight away.

A bit off topic but I recently found half a dozen 6x6 slide films I took with my dadís Yashica MAT124G many years ago. Mainly of central Australia & the Great Ocean Road. I did a couple of quick scans of a couple of frames just last night & they look outstandingÖ

I used to do a lot of Ciba/Ilfochrome in the Ď80ís & Ď90ís. I never had a proper darkroom so it was often a bit of a challenge. I didnít like the cleaning/packing up much either.

I went digital after I saw a review of Epsonís very first Photo Printer in Practical Photography. They couldnít believe the quality print they could get out of an inkjet.

Sold all my darkroom stuff & bought an Apple Mac, the printer & a film scanner.

I still have some old Cibachrome prints framed hanging on the wall & they are pristine.

DxO PhotoLab 5

I have been using DxO PhotoLab & OpticsPro before that for years. I pretty much started using it just for camera/lens corrections. It is outstanding for correcting chromatic aberrations & colour fringing. With all the new stuff that has been added recently I pretty much use it exclusively now. I own the Nik collection also but don't use it much except for Silver Efex. I use Sharpener Pro too on images that I print after they have been sized for printing.

I also use ACR & Photoshop rather than Lightroom. If you still want to use any adjustments in ACR you can export a RAW file from PhotoLab to Photoshop & it will open in ACR. Or you can use the ACR filter in Photoshop.

The K-7 was my 8th Pentax. All previous ones other than the *istD were film cameras of course.

I would like to try some more timelapse. I have had a Neewer intervalometer for some time but not really used it a lot. Do you have any links to guides for HDR timelapse?

I find the biggest challenge is finding an interesting subject!

Here is a link to my YouTube channel where you can view a couple of my better ones:

I have moved on to a second hand K-3ii but I still have my K-7. I keep thinking about selling it but I still havenít gotten around to it. It is one of my favourite cameras I have ever owned. I have taken some great photos with it.

I was experimenting with some timelapse videos also & thinking about using the K-7 for this. I donít know anything about HDR ones though. I will have to look into thatÖ

I really donít get topics like this. You donít have to buy stuff you donít want/need. All this stuff is market driven. If it wasnít, none of these new cameras etc. would sell. The world doesnít stand still. I donít know how you can blame DPReview for any of this! 😳

I have just been on a topic about LX & MXís predominately. No one is making anyone buy a new, do everything cameraÖ
