My suggestion is I think you and all your FILMFrame buddies should just go away and stop wasting everyone's time with your foolish, misguided incessant whining.

Will the 645D last?

The 645D would be perfect for me as I shoot real estate for sale in the Andes mountains in southern Ecuador. I need rugged and waterproof. My K-7 has taken substantial abuse. But, the 645D is two years old now. I couldn't afford it when it came out but I can now. I wish I knew when the next version was coming... The new wide angle lens is highly tempting. I'll probably get the K-5 replacement, or the 645D replacement. I'm really praying it will be the 645D.

Pentax lost so much money, they COULD be bought by Hoya. If Hoya doesn't raise prices, they will be in a similar situation. Seriously, didn't you see this coming?

K7.... size matters

I shoot with only the three pancakes (40,21,70) and use QSF alot. I just never fell in love with my K20D and sold it the second the K-7 was announced. The K-7 is way more comfortable than the *istDS because of the grip. The 100% viewfinder means I have to re-learn my lenses because the field of view looks so much bigger. The thing I never thought I would use, but ended up loving is in-camera processing. The K-7 does it from RAW to TIF and also lets you crop in-camera. If you shoot JPEG, you can change a whole series of parameters, but only on the last shot, before turning it off, so it seems as though a RAW image is buffered temporarily.

K7.... size matters

The difference between the K-7 and *istDS is that it's noticeably wider and substantially heavier. Also, the grip is far larger and deeper. Additionally, the mount is not as recessed so my DA40 sticks out more. They're the same depth on the non-grip side, and height. Because of the lugs, I bought a different hand grip that doesn't attach to the bottom, only on one lug, so I gained a big reduction in height. The viewfinder and prism are the same size as the *istDS. Bottom line, the width difference is most noticeable, and in my camera bag, I need more room because of the grip and mount. I was hoping it would, but it won't fit in my *istDS bag, but swims in my K20D bag. I would call it closer in size to the *istDS than the K20D.

I hated the size of the K20D, but the K-7 size is more than acceptable. It's not a *istDS, but has the same type of design aesthetic. Even though it's bigger, it just fits into your hand like a glove, so it's more comfortable. After the K20D it's a godsend.

Obviously, I can't take a size comparison shot because I only own two cameras. And, my *istDS is packed away for good so all this is from memory because this comparison the first thing I did.

K-7 pdf manual vs. prerelease version (trivial)

My K-7 included a small piece of paper which described that you can only output while recording to an HDMI terminal. The line above is stated on the sheet. So, the printed manual has been amended with this info. in the actual boxes.

The line should not have been removed, but they addressed it.

Sorry, I can't test either...

Limited Useful Life for DA Lenses?
Posted By Mr. The Guy

non-DA lens are obsolete today. They're missing features and were designed years ago for film. If you have a digital camera, why on earth do you think that a film lens can ever possibly be a better solution? It makes no sense.

Speed: Unnecessary
Size: Too big
Price: They're more expensive. Why do you want to waste money on old technology?
In-camera Corrections: Not supported on non-DA lenses

FF: Ya, I want a bigger camera, and bigger long lenses - not! I wouldn't bet a single penny on a Pentax FF. It's just a delusional desire by those who for some absurd reason think their old 70's lenses are going to work wonderfully on a digital camera. They're dreaming.

So, do you want to buy slow-AF, over-priced, over-sized, technically-crippled lenses that are obsolete today, that MAYBE one day, if you're very lucky, work marginally well on some future, expensive vapourware camera vs. the latest, cheaper lenses, optimized for your current digital camera? If there ever is a K-mount FilmFrame camera, there will be a whole new range of ultra-expensive lenses to properly match that camera's sensor. Old film lenses will just not 'cut' it. The in-camera processing of such a future, speculative camera will compensate for any vignetting in a DA lens automatically, if necessary.

Do you want the best solution for today, or for yesterday? Get a DA.

DxO users and the K-7--time for us to start pounding on the door

Is this software better than the in-camera K-7 RAW to TIF convertor? With in-camera cropping, CA, WB and other processes by a Pentax optimized conversion process, who needs computer RAW conversion software?
I know I'm a heretic, but seriously, how much does this software and a fast enough computer cost? Is it going to be THAT much better? I doubt it, unless the in-camera TIFs are only 8-bit. That would suck.

K-7 Production model pics in prints!!

To me, the K-7 photos I've seen make K*0D pictures look 'sterile'. When I got my now sold K20D vs. my DS, that was my first impression too. Pixel peekers remind me of 'audiophiles' who read specs instead of using their ears. I also agree, that all the photos taken so far have been by geeks, not photographers. I've been studying the manual since it came out and expect it will take me at least a couple of weeks to even begin to know the camera well enough to utilize it properly.

Man, I am getting so sick of coming here searching for any clue as to when I'll be able to pick up my K-7...

I'm assuming Widows.. Download and install Revo Uninstaller. Uninstall all Pentax apps. Use the advanced mode and if it asks to delete anything, say yes. If it asks to reboot, say no, and continue each uninstall. Then reboot. Also download and install avast!, SpyBot, CCleaner and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Then try to install the Pentax software. If all else fails, find a teenager. Good luck!
Now you know why some of us use Linux... This process will take you a couple of days.

There were 'pre-production' and now there are production cameras. The pre-production cameras apparently had varying sensors as the cameras were hand-made. Every camera you will be able to buy has the latest sensor, which of course, is different from the pre-production sensors. Of course the sensor has changed, but all sensors in camera's available for sale, there will be no differences between them. They will be improved from those used in pre-production cameras.

Japan has a very inefficient retail sector. The advantage they have over Canada, is the selection of stuff we just don't get here. This site will clue you in on approximate pricing: PriceJapan.com
