Right, and it apparently no longer includes a DA* Wide Zoom in 2018.

"Although it was initially announced that this lens would be launched on the market in the summer of 2018, we are pushing back the launch to a later date."

What's spelled out in the roadmap is "or later" and "Roadmap might change without notice."
You're welcome to call that a plan if you want.

As for me, I've learned not to base my plans on Ricoh's.

Those pre-production lenses were not "available".
Believe me, I would have tried to buy one if they had been,
since it would have nicely rounded out the Q system for me.

The tantalizing posts on the Japanese website
were from an enthusiast who managed to gain brief access to a copy.

In this thread about a Pentax lens roadmap,
the "now you see it, now you don't" experience with that 09 Tele Macro
is precisely why I think we cannot be so sanguine
about these "Ricoh has a plan" claims,
and why I think we shouldn't take the roadmaps too seriously.

Oh, puhleese!

I am determined to make the best use of what Pentax has to offer.

In order to do this, we need to be realistic about how Ricoh operate,
and realize that there is no consistent long-term plan to their operations.

Failed as a low-end consumer camera,
for which purpose the system was not intended, designed, or suited.

It succeeded brilliantly at expanding the "photographic space",
the way the Leica did when it first appeared.

That is not a characteristic of companies with a consistent long-term plan.

But it seems like automotive will,
and that presents an opportunity for co-development
of devices like smaller stacked BSI sensors
and image processing pipelines.

Amen to that!

Top-end Nikon means D5, so your niche is $5K and up.
That would move Pentax out of the range of the vast majority of our forum members.

Badge engineering.

Then why suggest that an automotive products line would "foreclose" consumer camera production?

It was a 1/1.7" sensor Pentax camera with outsourced production,
showing that a lack of in-house production capacity
does not preclude the offer of a product line in the modern lean-and-mean world.

Thank you for confirming my point.

I have little doubt about that,
even though the 09 telephoto macro lens was promised for so long,
and reached the prototype production phase.

This is precisely why I'm so skeptical of all these "Ricoh has a plan" claims,
and why I think that Ricoh lens road maps are not to be trusted.

They're definitely doing that.

You make that sound like engineering parts, not cameras.

Yet they're still churning out WGs and Thetas.

And as far as I remember,
they managed to offer the MX-1 without making it themselves
(it didn't even offer PEF raws).

That is one of the most perceptive commentaries on the Q system that I've seen in a long time.

The initial pricing on the original Q, its top-quality construction,
and Pentax' attempt to publicize it with a fashion shoot,
made it clear that they didn't have the consumer market in mind.

Vintage lens users... Do you correct for CA, distortion, vignetting etc.?

For me, it depends on the subject and the lens.

One of my favourite vintage lenses is the Super Takumar 20/4.5,
which renders beautifully, much better tonal gradations than the DA 15/4,
but certainly distorts geometrically.
So I'll correct the distortion if I'm shooting architecture or machinery,
but will leave it be if it's not a problem.

Another case in point, an old E. Ludwig 50/2.9 triplet.
Without correction, it gives the grim East German look of ORWO film,
which can be fine for atmospheric shots,
but I'll often stretch out the histogram to explore other aspects of the rendering.

I've never felt the need for a single correction profile,
since that would take away a lot of the fun of using these old lenses.

It's the lens that came in a kit with a K-1 body.
Nowadays, we call those "kit lenses".

For mid-range utility, nothing beats it.

But, unlike most of my primes,
I seldom find myself taking photographs with it purely because I like the way it will handle the subject.

They don't need to be "working on something" while they're busy with DFA lenses,
but just like they've done with the FA Limiteds,
they could at least keep their 4:3 formats going with what they already have.

The marque is "Pentax". Do you want to see it go?

This happens frequently in older Q system cameras.
(Conspiracy theory: It correlates with the 4:3 image format :))
Like they say, just get comfortable with resetting the date after a battery change.

The one with the smallest pixel pitch given, so the 25/2.8.

Surprising given the notorious Photozone (OpticaLimits) review
Zeiss Distagon T* 25mm f/2.8 ZF (on Canon EOS) - Lab Test / Review
but that review was compromised by an adapter.

How sharp the old SMC lenses are for the K1?

Mike Johnston ended up prefering the DA 35 Macro on his K20D:

An Optical Paragon - Photo.net - Articles

"But now look at a pixel-peeping enlargement of a similar (but sunlit) shot from the Zeiss 28/2 ZK ...
But now look at the same detail from a photo taken with the Pentax 35mm DA Macro Limited just a minute or two later.
Here’s a situation in which I would naturally expect the 35mm DA Macro to do somewhat less well,
but then it just cheerfully stomps the Zeiss lens."

Of course, the ZeeK would fare better on the K-1.

According to Zeiss, the 28/2 is the least sharp of their Distagons.

You need to make a distinction between allocation of R&D effort,
which we all understand is focused on FF right now,
and continuing their offerings of existing formats and hardware in which users have invested.

Abandoning formats has the effect of turning customers away,
and that's not usually a good thing for a business to be doing.

Zeiss rate the sharpness of their lenses by giving the finest pixel pitch for 30% contrast.
It's "only" 3.9 microns for the 28/2, and 3.6 microns for the 35/2, but 3.4 microns for the 25/2.8.

Pixel pitch on the K-1 is 4.9 microns.

They will no longer do that for you, it seems, stopping the option of special colors a couple of years ago.
The existing stock of black, burgundy, and beige QS-1 models is still on offer from the Ricoh site in Japan:
