Brand New K-5 - Is this sensor stain?

I did the dust alert and dust removal. Nothing showed up on the dust alert function - completely white.

I have never changed the lens. The lens (18-55 WR) has been on the camera body from immediately after I got the camera until now.

The picture I believe was taken at f14

Brand New K-5 - Is this sensor stain?

Was taking some pics of a sunset today with my new K-5, and came across some unsightly spots on my pictures. I wanted to ask the forum if these are sensor stain spots.

Three spots - one top, one right side, one fainter one in the middle.

I did the dust mapping and removal, no dust to be seen. Also, I've never changed the lens - first day, I put the kit lens on and hasn't come off - so I don't see how dust could get in there anyway. No dust on the lens itself.

If this is really a bunk sensor, I am truly disappointed in Pentax. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, and I love the K-5. Also, this the first time I'm buying into a DSLR system, and it doesn't give me much confidence in my choice. This issue should be resolved by now, especially brand new units being sold.

Formatting/Firmware Update Question

Ok. So does it matter what file system I format it in? It looks like MSDOS (FAT) is my best option to format it. I don't know if I'm making a big deal out of nothing, but I don't want to mess it up!

Thanks!

Formatting/Firmware Update Question

Hi. Just got my K-5 last week, and loving it! I wanted to upgrade the firmware, but I'm having a slight issue with the formatting of the SDHC card. I will preface by saying I have a macbook pro.

So, if I format the card in the camera and insert the formatted card into my computer's card reader, my computer will not even recognize the card. However, if I take a picture with the card, the computer will recognize the card when I connect it to the computer (by taking the picture, the camera seems to write a file system, or so it would seem).

Any way to get around this? I thought formatting the card in the camera would be the best way to go, but is it possible to format the card using Disk Utility? What file system should I format the card in?

Thanks for any help!! Sorry it may seem like a stupid question, this is my first DSLR.

Brand new or returned/refurbished?

EXIF data shows manufacture date of 2011.1.22. I guess that makes sense. Looking at the serial number list I quickly assumed it was made in 2010.

The box didn't look re-packaged, even though it would be pretty hard to tell (no seal sticker on the box).

I have to say I've had a great experience with Adorama so far. I'm just a little paranoid, this being my first DSLR purchase and having put so much energy into researching the camera, and hoping the problems don't crop up. Judging from just reading forums, I figure I probably have equal chances of the K-5 either ruining my life or becoming my favorite tool. And that I'll go through 5-10 bodies before I find a good one ;)

Well, gotta start reading that manual now :)

Hi All. I'm new to the forum and Pentax, but have been researching buying a K-5 for months now and finally plunked down cash and bought one through Adorama.

I was really excited when I got home today to my "new" K-5 that was waiting for me. I've done a lot of research regarding the stain/FF issue and thought that buying one now with a later serial number might give me a better chance of a flawless body.

So that prefaces my slight frustration when I opened up my K-5 and saw serial number 393xxxx.

I haven't even gotten around to using it - the battery is still charging. But I wanted to ask your opinions about it. Is it unreasonable to suspect this is a refurbished product? I know I have to try it out before I get worked up about it. I'm just saying, if I buy a refurbished product, I'd expect to pay a refurbished price.

Thanks for the help!

I was planning on buying my K-5 today from B&H, and when I saw that the price was up (actually, when I checked this morning, it was 1599 kit price) I kinda freaked out and was relieved to see Adorama's price hadn't changed. I ended up ordering from Adorama.

I called Adorama to confirm that they had the extra Pentax warranty in stock (which has been out of stock for some time at B&H), which they did. I ended up ordering over the phone and so far (fingers crossed) have had a wonderful customer experience with them. First time dealing with them directly. The sales rep was really helpful and even gave me a good deal on expedited shipping (I was going to order from B&H because their fast shipping was cheaper, and I read some threads saying their shipping was a little quicker and their customer service more reliable). If I get the K-5 in good working order before my trip, I will be one happy customer :)

I've been a quite frequent lurker on the forums for the last few months as I was comparing the K-5 and D7000, as this is my first DSLR purchase. I really appreciate the time and effort of the administrators in keeping up this site and all the valuable information from everyone who contributes. I just bought my K-5 kit today (so excited!) and I can't wait to get out and shoot.

I know it's a lot of camera so I'll be on a lot nagging people with questions. Don't worry, I'm pretty good with a search engine :p The K-5 and D7000 are such great cameras, and it was a tough decision until I actually held them both. K-5 is built like a tank. And it's gorgeously designed.

I really like street/candid photography, also many things that are kind of "weird" or different.

Can't wait to get out and shoot with it! Looking forward to sharing.
