The mtf chart looked good as far as I can tell, and if it is sharp at 600mm wide open I might have to get one. My 100-400mm canon is sharp wide open, but doesn't go to 600mm of course.:) If they can make it work with the pentax sdm, it would sell like hotcakes.:)

The only neutral I got on ebay was when I packed a lens in a box with pillows. No damage, at all even. I think they are good, but some people just don't like them.

Let's Talk About Teleconverter Bokeh...

I found another with some crazy highlights with a 300mm (canon)and 1.4x wide open. There was a real good thread a long time ago about specular highlights and had some similar bokeh caused by aspherical lens elements.

It seems to me, and I use TC's frequently, they can do some strange things to the OOF highlights and foliage when they are at a particular distance from the in focus area. Even a lens with good results with no TC can get crazy. I still usually get good results, but here are a couple with a canon 300mm and a 2x.:)

same combo with different conditions:

A tilt-shift lens can change the plane of focus so more or less is in focus also.(just to confuse things) :)

DA*300 vs 150-500 birding

I think that is about right and I really wanted faster aperture at times so I tried a tamron 300mm f2.8, but the fringing was bad, so it needed stopping down anyway. I got my hands on a FA300 f2.8 but it was a bad copy. (or I'd still be shooting Pentax)

I should also add, the only TC I found to work with the da300mm was the 1.7x afa. I tried a couple of the 1.5x shq kenko's with the PZ contacts and they hunted way too much. The 1.7x afa uses the screw drive.

The DA300 works really good with the 1.7x and probably holds it's value if you ever decide to sell. I don't know about the sigma. F4 is nice to have when you need it too. With the 1.7x and cropped:

My Ugliest Shot....

Glad to hear you are doing a bit better.:) For my backyard snaps I usually use a 7d and 100-400mm and run the raws through capture one, the defaults are pretty good and I don't like too much manipulation anyways. If the light isn't good it gets deleted.:)

This other momma squirrel was on another branch of the pin oak waiting for some of those unsalted peanuts:) They like what the birds drop out of the feeder too. We have a squirrel buster feeder for the birds, the only one we ever had that really worked.:)

I don't get exited over any new bodies. The first and last camera I bought when it just came out was a K10D and it went a week or so until the built in flash fried the main PCB. The replacement had the tilted viewfinder and developed the corner crack and also died before a year was up. It seems all the new stuff has a glitch and we are the ones to sort it out. It's a lot cheaper to wait for a while. I got great deals on used bodies and spend my dough on lenses.:):) I might break my own rules for a 7dii if it had a sensor as clean as my 1diii but with more MP though. :)

Nice truck, is it an '81? My first car was a '68 short bed step side chevy I bought at auction from the local army base. O.D. green 250 6 cyl. and it ran like a top. Gas tank right behind the seat and the ashes from the vent wing flew right by the fill cap. I wish I still had it.:) I had a '74 too but rolled it.:( Don't use anything but r-12 in the A.C. :)

The specs look great:) The AF array looks good with the 4 corners covered and the nice big buffer. If they had a 100-400mm I would be really tempted. :)
