This copy of the Auto Tak 55 1.8 is really soft wide open (probably the softest tak I own), but the effects are wild. I know people usually don't like busy bokeh but I think it adds such interest to otherwise dull and samey backgrounds. I believe it was Johnathan Mac who mentioned that 23mm is a "key" focal length, aka the person he's quoting.

Reminds me of the guy around here who would spend months on snowy mountains or rainy jungles with his K-1 and K-3 just slung on his back with no other protection. Pentax cameras really let you have peace of mind.

My only complaint is the DA lineup lacks WR on most primes. Would love to see the limiteds weather sealed at some point.
But focal length availability is not a problem in the Pentax lineup, nor is speed.

The KP just aligns with how I shoot. I could care less about buffer size and all that jazz.
I really hope we get a KP II with a larger viewfinder and the better video. I think it would be a perfect lineup, K3* series for high action, KP* for the portrait/landscape/macro photographer and the K** for the intermediate or beginner photographer.

The K-5 IIs is still one of the highest DR APSC cameras ever made, matching many full frame cameras of the era.
Arguably the K-3 series was actually a downgrade in a lot of ways.

Only time I turn IBIS off is when I'm using manual zooms like the M 75-150. I simply can not be arsed to change the focal length every time I shoot.
Exception is of course when light isn't amazing and I'm not shooting at higher shutter speeds.

I think combining with in lens shake reduction is unnecessary, especially since Pentax doesn't focus on video at all.
You don't get shake reduction in lens without compromise, I remember reading something a while ago detailing the potential image quality disadvantages and cost increases.
With current pentax IBIS on the KP I can easily go down to 1/8 of a second or slower with a 135mm, and the times I have to do that are exceedingly rare.

I've used around that FL on film quite a bit when I owned the 43mm for a short while and I liked it a lot more. I think something just doesn't translate quite right in the projection. Or perhaps just the characteristics of 40-50mm lenses in general are better.
Just for the record on 35mm film 50mm is by far my favorite FL.

I once found a cheap M 28 2.8 in mint condition for cheap. It promptly went on ebay :D
Most 28s I've used just kinda suck on APSC, I think the fov is kind of boring and most don't have anything fun to make up for it. The M series one makes it worse by kinda sucking too. ---------- Post added 01-27-21 at 08:54 AM ----------
Not to change the subject completely but I have a Petri 50mm 1.8 that is the complete opposite. Real bad at closer distances but stellar infinity focus. Kind of odd design if you ask me, but I guess weird quirks like that add utility to otherwise uninteresting lenses.

If I had something like the 150-450 attached to the KP for any period of time it'd be a life saver. Luckily I don't have the funds so my back is saved.

But I thought Pentax gear couldn't be used professionally. Do the police know about this!?

Cause the collector tax is a bit much for that bit of kit. Would love to see a modern 135 f2 from Pentax.
I think the Samyang 135 f2 is probably the best currently available 135 you can get for Pentax. Superb performance for the price too.

I think it's the noise pattern of the kp at higher ISO. It's pleasing, and adds almost a filmic grain look.

Separation seems inevitable on these lenses. Every copy that's been through my hands has had it.

I've been wanting to learn how to do basalm separation repair if you're not worried about the lens being potentially unfixable :D

My most reliable devices have been audio gear and video game consoles. Plus my vintage Wyse WY-60 terminal I picked up from a company a few years ago changing out their main frame which somehow still works despite 24 hour operation for over 20 years.
I think the article is a bit flawed though. They're comparing devices like the LG thin q which was a 250 dollar feature phone to apple which literally doesn't sell a phone under 400.
Apple just doesn't make cheap commodity products. I'd be more interested in a more scientific comparison between what their products actually compete against.

I'd drop the Ms and the Fs. You have better lenses in the focal lengths, even for film.
