Doh! Sorry, I forgot to post those.
And take them, for that matter.

Here they are!

All angles, screen focused on my 8mm fisheye, doors open, with and without lens, camera in (sensor exposed), camera off, sensor hidden. Strap and whatever the lens hole plug is actually called, and rear view of the 40mm xx lens.

With the keychain of Waterhouse plates from my lomo daguerreotype lens to the side for visual interest and a degree of proof that I took the photos. Lol. Canít be too many of those floating around. :)

---------- Post added 10-06-18 at 02:07 PM ----------

(Side note, thatís the first time I think that Iíve ever taken a flash photo of an exposed sensor. Whoa, it looks cool.. . Reminds me of the groovy lasted beam backdrops from 80s school pictures. Lol)

Item for Sale
Yellow K-01, missing dial cover.

Asking Price
160.00 USD

Item Location
South Bend, Indiana (United States)

Item Description
I recently purchased a yellow K-01 rather on accident. (I'd searched for IR converted bodies and didn't notice that since there were only 2 real results, it was listing entries with fewer search terms. Doh!).

I don't really need a K-01, so I'd like to sell it.

It has a shutter count of around 20,000 (the photo attached read around 19950), comes with what I assume is the original Pentax neck strap and a Pentax battery.

I want to be up front, though - it has a couple issues, one of which the original seller didn't disclose.

#1, the seller did disclose: occasionally the screen goes black. The button still makes a noise like it's taking a photo, but I'm not sure if it really is or not.- I didn't get it to do it when I actually had a card in the camera, just when I was playing with it a bit before that. The seller *said* it still took pictures when it happened, but I don't know that I believe him. I did update the firmware to the latest, so it might have been that, but it might also be a physical problem, so buyer beware.

#2, it's missing the aluminum dial mode cover. Apparently this is a fairly common problem with the K01, but the replacement part is about $80, and while there's a 3d printed option on ebay for $30, it's transparent and looks bad IMO. The dial does still work, you just have to look at the screen to see what mode you've selected. Annoying but still functional.

I played with it a few times, but only took it out of my office once, to a photo group meeting, but I forgot to bring my 77 ltd (and my 50-135 is broken :( ) so the 40mm was the longest lens I had... I'll post a couple of shots I took, but they're small crops of the bigger image because the lens was on the wide side for the space.

I'll throw in an XS40 (had it for years, almost never use it) for an extra $40 if anyone wants it (or $50 if it goes without the camera body, but you'll have to pay shipping on that, sorry). It's a little bit decentered or something, sometimes shots from it look like LensBaby shots, and then other times it's not really noticeable at all.

I don't have the camera itself in front of me to take a photo of now, sorry. Aside from the missing dial mode cover I didn't see any damage to it. I'll try & get a snapshot of it uploaded later.

So: Pentax K-01, yellow, some issues: $160, free US shipping
Pentax 40mm XS lens, some issues: $40 with camera, $50 + shipping purchased solo.

Reasonable offers accepted. I'd also consider trades, though I've got pretty much all my needs covered (aside from getting my 50-135 fixed) for K mount glass (still looking for the Q 06 and 08 lenses and a Q7 body)

3d printed Mode Dial for k-01

yeah, and it's barely readable and looks awful. If the ebay seller 3d printing them anyway, it seems like it would have made more sense to print them in a solid color like the grey from the OP's mockup

I just bought a k-01 on eBay and the seller didn’t mention the missing dial though it was missing in the pictures if I’d looked more carefully. Any chance this ever got off the ground? I don’t want to pay 40% of what I paid for the camera for a disk and the only other option is translucent white for some dumbass reason.

One thing to note is the HD lenses have curved aperture blades where the SMC lenses have straight ones,

While this is generally a good thing for bokeh, it ruins the amazing stopped down star burst effect the SMC 15mm had with lights. The straight blades give you a sharp, clear, straight ray, the curved blades spread it out and make it less distinct. In thumbnails it's not an obvious difference, but at printable sizes, it's clear.

I have something like that, but this isnít exactly a situation where it would have been helpful, because I wouldnít have been using it anyway.

This stupid business trip (Iíve been in rural Minnesota for a month and because of the Canadian wildfires I havenít even gotten any decent astrophotography out of it) will finally be over Friday and Iíll be back in a semblance of civilization, so I can deal with repair quotes and so on then.

I have insurance, of course, but the deductible is probably more than a used lens. I’ll have to ask my agent. It’s under my business policy and I have no idea what the deductible is for my electronics inland marine coverage

Maybe if I include my 16-50 that’s become effectively a 16-35 after my wife dropped it on the floor of the car (never bothered fixing it because I don’t really like it that much and only use it when I need a wide angle in rain/mist) it’ll end up being worth a claim, but I doubt it.

Although I think the real underlying damage waswhen I had to slam on the brakes a few days ago to avoid a head-on collision and the camera was on the passenger seat, it actually broke when I forgot it was on the hotel desk chair and tipped said chair over to retrieve a sock that was beneath it... crap.

Snapped like a twig and Iím not sure if I found all the pins.

While it looks like a simple fix (one broken piece of plastic the mount screws into), I have no idea how much itíll cost.

Has anyone had this done and how much it cost?

Iíve had my 60-250 repaired but that was a more serious problem (dropped to hard floor from 5 feet up, no camera attached, internal elements broke loose) so I canít inagine itís a good comparison.

This is my favorite lens, and the one that came with my first Pentax camera :(

---------- Post added 08-18-18 at 10:33 AM ----------

Update: itís worse than I thought. Zoom ring is stiff and when I got it to turn a thin piece of rubber began to extrude itself from the area of the green ring and thereís a definite mismatch in spacing - the side wit the broken plastic mount piece gaps open so the green ring is loose. :(

You should really sell them together. The extender isn’t going to be as great with another lens and finding the matching extender for this particular make of the lens (the one that has auto aperture support) would be a pain if someone wanted it later.

I’m tempted, but I already have a bokina with the 1:1 adapter, it just isn’t one with an A setting.

mitakon 85mm f/1.2 vs a combo of porst 50mm f/1.2, samyang 85mm f/1.4& 8mm f/3.5

FYI, cyberjunkie, OP, and anyone else who owns or is considering a porst 55/1.2, yes, it's sort of milky/dreamy wide open... until you put a hood on it (one intended for 85mm lenses if you're on crop sensor).

And they're not kidding about the depth of field, and an 85mm/1.2 would be even narrower. Personally switching to a matte ee-s focusing screen helped but not enough - having focus peaking in live view makes it much easier.

Attached: all handheld in ambient light, with hood for sure on the foliage, the woman and I forget on the man but I think not; no hood for sure on the kid (that was the week I got the lens. I think that was actually like f/2 not 1.2 but you can still see the sort of dreamy/milky quality). Foliage shot is to show the narrow dof more obviously.

side note: that 8mm is not full frame, and get the rokinon "HD" version with the removable hood and better coatings, especially if you want to use it FF. It'll still cover a good bit of the screen. Lots of people on other FF systems were filing the built-in hood off of the samyang til the rokinon with the removable hood came out. :)

You can see a simple view of with and without the hood on FF here: Shaving the lens hood of the Samyang (Bower, Rokinon, Walimex) 8mm fisheye lens for usage on the Sony E-mount with full-frame sensors – PanoTwins

Good point. Without the removable hood you won't get a circular image even if you had a reducer. I've used mine on my ZX-L and the hood gets in the way til I take it off.

You could try the wikipedia article instead, if the tone gets in the way of your comprehension of the facts.

Normal temperature coffee does not cause third degree burns and require skin grafts. It might hurt like hell and have some redness, but it doesn't require hospitalization.

The jury considered her 20% at fault for the reasons you stated, but 80% of the fault was McDonalds.

Is a frozen zoom a common problem with these? Mine's been functionally a 16-35mm for a couple years now and I've only taken it out of the cabinet maybe twice since then. Didn't want to spend the money getting it fixed since I never used it much

People need to stop referencing that like it was a BS case of money grubbing. It was a matter of negligence on the part of McDonalds keeping their coffee at a dangerously high temperature despite over 700 injuries reported over several years (and serving them in flimsy cups). Normal coffee serving temperatures do not cause third degree burns requiring 8 days of hospitalization and skin grafts followed by 2 years of treatment, which is what the 79 year old plaintiff went through, and her suit was to cover her medical expenses and $5000 in lost wages for her daughter who had to take 3 weeks off of work to care for her. McDonalds offered her $800. She retained an attorney, who upped the suit to cover his costs in researching the case, mcdonalds refused to settle and the case went to trial. The jury decided the lady was 20% at fault to McDonalds 80%, awarded her 80% of the ~$200k compensation the lawyer had requested, and then tacked on a punitive damage amount in the millions (a couple days of coffee sales for mcd), but the judge dropped that down to 3x the compensation amount, and mcdonalds got that amount reduced later.

The plaintiff died in 2004, 10 years after the incident. She ended up using the money to cover the long-term care she ended up needing from the injury and recovery process.

I didn't know you could buy that separately... thought it only came with the 025/025x travel tripods.

I have the K20x bullhead, and it's absolute overkill for even a K3 with battery grip and 60-250 lens (fits great on the sirui 1205x tripod, though I suspect the C10 would let me close the legs completely and fit better in the travel case)

I hate to suggest it, but if you just want the photo for yourself to hang on the wall to commemorate your trip and the sky as you *wish* it would have been, instead of trying to be a "real" photographer (because come on, even "real" photographers want some nice vacation snapshots now and then) get a nice sky photo at roughly the same time of day and with the sun in the same direction as it would have been for the original and use ReMask or something to replace it cleanly:

Video Panning Tripod Head + L Plate Question.

Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate M-8 B&H Photo Video would be an expensive solution, but would work

Another option would be a macro focusing rail (the 4 way kind that lets you go side to side as well as front & back).

And another option would to pick up a quick release base thats compatible with your L bracket and screw it onto the plate that came with the tripod head.

Personally, I'd return the head and get something else that's intended for a DSLR.

Smallest & Lightest Arca Swiss Compatible Ball Head

like pid said, really. If you want really small and light but also want arca swiss, you'll need to get a tiny only-good-for-a-monopod (or maybe a tiny point & shoot) head like the ones he linked (tons of cheap ones on amazon) and screw an arca-swiss plate on.

Personally I'm a big fan of Sirui's stuff, because the little safety button is so much more convenient than a screw (and so much safer than not having anything there). Here's their arca quick release plate that could screw on to one of those: : Sirui MP-20 Quick Release Platform & Plate (Arca Compatible) : Other Products : Everything Else?tag=pentaxforums-20& (about 78 grams assuming the 2.75 ounce figure is correct).

I used to use that semi permanently attached to my black rapid strap (with thread lock) with an L bracket on the camera body. Never tried it on a ball head - the few times I've used one of those tiny ones on my monopod I screwed it straight into the camera, but usually I just switch the bullhead off my tripod if I need to use the monopod

FWIW I was able to order one of these last year by emailing (which was the contact email for the mestos site). It was $145.50 USD shipped and he mailed it the next day with tracking. I ordered on 5/22, he shipped on 5/23, and I received it on 5/26. I haven't taken it off much since then. It's heavy, but usually when I want to go light, I take off the whole battery grip and the L bracket stays attached to that. It's very well made and you don't have to remove it to switch the grip battery out.
