Help! m42 adapter stuck on camera

Unlock with your special tool just like shown here:
Removing an M42 adapter from a Pentax | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

After this, you could consider to remove the locking mechanism from your adapter
completely. I did so with mine and find it much easier to use, the lens won't fall
off because the lock is missing.

It is already impractical, not only do 12800 and 102400 look too similar, the EXIF specification is already useless for any ASA values above 65535, as only a 16 bit value is stored. Some 102400 ISO Canon camera already has reached this limitation and saturates to 65535.

An alternative EXIF tag with DIN and the possibility to display sensitivity in DIN in the camera would be reasonable.

With these high sensitivity values, I wish ISO to be shown in the still valid DIN representation which is a log scale instead of the linear one in ASA. The 51200 ASA would read 48 DIN - much more readable, especially as sensitivity goes higher and higher.

So can we please have DIN back in advertising, EXIF data and tech talk?

Pentax K-x single channel clipping

Moin,

I recently discovered that there is a strong correlation of "Custom Image" setting and the bad rendering of saturated blue: Only Bright/Vibrant settings seem to result in clipped blue colours, all others seem to work just fine.

Pixel binning usually means to combine pixels before the ADC, which can have some advantage over averaging in the digital domain, one of them some decreased digital bandwidth and less burden on the signal processing. But there is no information on how this binning is done or what happen digitally afterwards, so there is no information on which pixels and if any are skipped for video.

A new kind of single lens reflex camera

I would guess the optical precision needs to be much higher here as for the viewfinder pentaprism, as it is in the main optical path to the sensor. I can imagine that for current DSLR pentaprism you can get away with cheap but accurate plastic optics, for the dichroic prism this might not be an option.

Similar technology is already used in 3CCD cameras, but here the sensors are usually much smaller. Note also that the amount of glass needed for the prism would rise approximately with 3rd power of sensor size, so this solution might be expensive.

Maybe An Email Camapign To Persuade Pentax To Give Us Full Manual Video Mode

Canon certainly has an advantage here as they develop and produce video cameras as well, just as Panasonic and Sony. Pentax and Nikon do not have this advantage, so it is somehow natural that their technology in this respect is a bit behind most competitors but Sony.

No need to give up yet, just remember how long it took Canon to react. Pentax seems to be busy with new products right now, which is the right thing to do for a company. But I trust they will consider to add requested features in K7 and K-x in the future, but this takes some engineering power and has to be justified from a business point of view.

To say it would be a one day job is very short sighted, especially from a programmer I would expect some more insight. It needs addition to the UI, it needs to be properly tested, so give them some time and keep your expectations reasonable.

Sorry, no facts in these links, just guessing.

Averaging rectangular portions of the sensor surface could cause some aliasing, as it is not a very good digital anti-aliasing filter for decimation, but I don't want to participate in further guessing here.

I cut off that very pin on purpose from my Auto Revuenon 50mm 1:1.4.
That way I can use it in aperture priority mode on my K-x:

Still happy with that modification!

I assume this is a crop of some video, it shows a certain lack of detail, but surprisingly little aliasing. Some chroma aliasing, but the lines are perfectly merged into gray as they should.

Of course everything will be better some time in the future, but instead of complaining about current shortcomings, we should hold our breath and worship what amazing technology Pentax engineers have achieved for us so far:

Hail Pentax engineers!!!

Question on Kx or K7 video

Why do you think so?

Maybe they use a fraction of the sensor surface, but I am certain that they use all pixels from that area and downsample digitally. As the process has to be fast and is very likely done in hardware, it sure has some imperfection that causes aliasing. Worse, there will be some nonlinear processing for enhancing sharpness on edges that will also result in visible artifacts, especially if subjected to some test chart. But when shooting real world scenes, I am still very happy with the video quality of the K-x. Some 50 years ago, filmmakers would have given their right arm for the image quality and possibilities of current DSLR video.

Yes, the guy had apparently more knowledge about the law than the young officer, and there is was legal obligation to comply to the officers request. But the way he reacted was not suited to deescalate the situation, instead he repeatedly requested to be detained - a request that was eventually granted. I can see no reason other than being a poser and making up a lame story out of thin air for his behavior, and we should not fall into his trap and sing along with his stupid complaints. I respect the officers and I fully excuse them for not knowing enough about jurisdiction, and I applaude for them to detain this wannabe photographer.
I contrast to him, those officers do an important job, and it is just rude to waste their precious time with this unnecessary performance.

I agree, he is an unfriendly guy who enjoys not being cooperative at all. Insisting with his "are we being detained, officer?" he is the opposite of polite and calm he claims to be in his narrative voice over.

What makes you think so?

It would cause a lot of aliasing and increased noise because only a fraction of the light that reaches the sensor would be used. I don't think Pentax engineers are that stupid.

Think I have to thank you - I inherited the very same lens together with a Praktika, Super TL from my grandfather, but never thought much about it. Now seeing the sharp photos and the price you ask, I am looking forward to testing it on my K-x.

Thank You!
