Astro - sell the Sigma 10-20 f3.5 for a prime?

I tried but just too dark to see. It was also poorly planned, I used the roof of my suv as a tripod so seeing through view finder was tough. Lots of click n' pray. It does drive me a bit bonkers though that "infinity focus" doesn't focus on stars. On my 17-50, the stars were more in focus at the begining of the infinity focus area, about 5mm from full turn

Astro O-GPS1 + K3 + Dobsonian ???

Was wondering if the gps star tracker would work in a Dobsonian telescope. K3 with a T ring adapter. This would position camera 90 degrees from what your aiming at. Not sure how that effects compass and sensor movement.

Thanks

Sorry, was out a bit. Me and the gps thingy aren't getting along. I played around other day up at camp. No moon but only about 9pm. So not the darkest of skies. Just my Tamron 17-50 f2.8, iso 3200, 30s

Last time I had good clear skies was in Hilton Head. K3 50mm F2 8s ISO3200. I think it was an Pentax FA F2 lens. I have the 1.4 now.

I was originally interested in the 10 but now I like the 14mm. But looking wider has me playing around with my Tamron 17-50 again. I haven't used it in a while. When I had my K20D I always used it. But I sold that body with that lense on a rainy day years ago. My new copy has been trouble. Then I noticed the front element was loose, so I took the trim ring off and was able to tighten the element and it seems to be better now. Might give it a go in the next clear night. The skies pretty blue today. It's been hazy last few days from the west coast wild fires

unedited pic to test the gps function, stars still seem sharp after 2 minutes. I wanted to compare this to a stacked sample but the lighting wasnt quite right. #citylife

Your blacks are nice. Also using a K-3. My initial hopes are to get the GPS1 to allow lower ISO and bump the Fstop up to sharpen the image and keep the Sigma. I'd probably keep it anyway.

The foreground in my sample was lit up a bit with an LED spotlight I have.

Sigma 10-20 at 10mm F3.5 30s ISO3200

I find myself always trying to get milkyway shots but always being dissapointed. I know I want foreground so that always leaves me using a wide angle. I have a Tamron 17-50 F2.8, a Sigma 10-20mm F3.5, Samyang 35mm F1.4, Pentax 50mm F1.4. I just got in a 0-GPS1 and a remote trigger I haven't tried yet. But I keep wanting a Samyang/rokinon 10mm F2.8 or even the 14mm but haven't pulled the trigger since I have already have the lenses above. I just keep think I could do better with a faster prime. But so far I've also been limited to the 30 second in body timer and no tracking. Latest sample pic. I live near Pittsburgh so low light is only up at my cottage (below) or at the beach in a few weeks.

Thanks. Now i'm trying to decide between the 24mm and the 35mm. Seems like the 35mm is sharper but hte 24mm would be better for me in the close quarters of my industrial shop at work. I've been wanting a faster wide angle for years to shot over there

My Tamron 17-50 has been acting up, the front element ring keeps loosening and going soft on me. SO i been using the 85mm more and doing more shots with it, I really like this lens and want to get another one in the 20-35mm range.

these were both Tamron 17-50. The waterfall had a cheapy Lenskins MRC-ND1000 on it. And almost all my photos get a little post, mostly shadow brightening, highlight cutting and a touch of vibrance. The Lenskins ND1000 actually did quite well for $30. A little magenta hue on certain shots but nothing terrible.

Cave ISO1600 - F7.1 - 4sec
Waterfall ISO400 -F8 - 30sec with ND1000

Thanks, Its the industry no one really thinks about. That duct is a piece of hundreds we are working on. They connect the systems that pulls oily vapors away from the rolling mills that flatten the aluminum used to make Ford trucks.

i wonder what makes them spin. On earth hurricanes spin from the rotation of the planet and sheer from winds. With no wind in space, i would think galaxies would look more like Saturn
