shutter lag with k70 and shoe mount flash?

Hello, can't test this at any local stores as the K70 isn't stocked here. Does anyone with a K70 and a shoe mount flash know if there is a noticeable shutter lag when shooting with shoe mount flash in pttl mode? K3II has a lag. Thanks very much, Mark

thanks Walro for posting those photos from the wedding--they're great! Looks like an awesome combo for weddings. So glad to hear the flash is working so well--especially valuable information for me since you noticed the delay on your K3 and I have the same flash. There are no K1's available within 2 hours driving of where I live, so thank you again for this feedback :)

Thank you Walro so much for taking the time to post a detailed response to my questions, it's greatly appreciated :)
Based on what you've described, the AFC performance of this camera is very encouraging indeed. The situations you described in which you shoot are similar to what I'm often shooting in, so your feedback is particularly valuable to me. Thanks again for taking the time! --Mark

Thanks for your comments about the wedding. i would love to hear some more detailed impressions about AFC--was it able to keep up with action in the processional/recessional (what percentage of shots were pin-sharp? Did you use pttl? If so, which flash and did you detect any shutter lag in this mode at all? On K3II, the shutter lag is a disappointment with pttl flash.
Thanks from another wedding photographer,

pentax k1 with shoe mount pttl flash, shutter lag?

Just wondered if any K1 owners have tested a shoe mount flash on the K1 in Pttl mode? If so, can you comment on whether there is a shutter lag when taking a picture in pttl flash mode? This is the case on K3II (the shutter lag is long enough to be noticeable and other modes don't exhibit this lag) and I'm hoping the K1 is immune from this behaviour.
Thanks so much,

pentax k3ii live view tracking AF--does it work on yours?

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your response. On page 46 of the manual it says the following for live af tracking: "Tracks the subject in focus"
What you've described sounds like an interesting use of the mode indeed, but on the K3II, at least, Pentax themselves are saying that this mode should track the subject.
What you're describing is indeed an ingenious method of focus and recomposing, but it really isn't living up to Pentax's claim of "track[ing] the subject in focus", at least in my opinion. I'll be curious to hear what Sun Camera says it about it (Canada's service centre). Hopefully I'll have some info. to share soon...

I'll be shipping my camera in tomorrow for the recall and when I spoke to them, they thought the focus issue sounded abnormal. I will report back with their findings/adjustments after I get it back.
thx everyone for your input :)

Thanks for the answers so far. I remember seeing that video in the past, but I can't tell because of the background noise if the lens is actually refocusing as the camera tracks the vehicle.
I agree that PDAF would be the way to go for live view tracking, but I would still love to know if anyone's K3II actually refocuses while tracking in live view mode.thx

Has anyone tried the live view AF tracking mode on their pentax k3ii? On mine, the camera looks like it's tracking (ie. the green focus square moves around to follow my subject), but the lens is not driven and so the focus does not change from its initial position? I have to send my camera in for the recall anyway, but I want to get opinions on whether my camera has a more serious issue in this respect. thx for your input! :)

Yes, this is exactly the behavior I noticed. It's only in pttl that the behavior happens.

Which external flash unit are you using? I don't notice any lag when shooting non-pttl flash modes, or when I turn off the flash. Maybe I have a defective camera?

You're right, I just checked and it's 15 pages, I thought it was 17. Nevertheless, I agree that either contacting Ricoh/Pentax or simply returning/exchanging the camera is probably the next step. The forum is useful, however, as there is no local Pentax dealer near me, so firsthand experiences are useful in determining whether or not this is a problem with my particular camera, or the model in general.

So bummed, I just took delivery of a Pentax K3ii with 50mm lens (coming from Nikon camp). The camera works well overall, but when you attach an external flash (I've tried Pent af-540GZ), there is a noticeable lag before the camera will actually take a picture. Release priority selected on all focus modes. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but a quick search reveals 17 pages of forums comments on this issue with the K3. Did anyone ever find a solution. Does anyone know if the KS2 has this issue? My local stores don't carry Pentax to try.

Great, thank you! If you have time I would love to see some raw files with PS off. Subjects that show fine detail and lots of dynamic range--ie. shot of some trees with grass, for example, and skintones if possible. If you have an external flash, I would love to see how fill flash looks towards the sun with a person if possible.
Also very curious how the new AF-C tracking works!
Really appreciate it all this!

Thanks so much for posting these! To clarify are the DNG and PEF files for each image with PS on, or is the DNG with PS off and the PEF with PS ON (ie. following same order as jpegs)? Thanks, these are very useful samples to start things off!
