You might want to look at the Panny 12-35/2.8. It's probably about 1/2lb lighter but is more plasticky than the 12-40. The 12-40 works well w/ my GH4 but is way to front heavy w/ a GX1 which is slightly lighter than your GX7.

The Oly 12-40 has a nice metal build quality that you don't see much nowadays...reminds me of Ltds...

really think Pentax should have released something like this to keep me from getting a GH4 as well.

Samsung learned a lot from the K20D...nice weathersealing on this as well. Too bad they didn't learn about ergonomics :-)

jogiba: any thoughts on whether it's better to go the speedbooster/sigma 18/35 route or 0.95 lenses?
Picked up an SLR Magic 25/.095 to play w/ on my GX1 and the bokeh is amazingly smooth...even more so it seems than w/ the Ltd lenses I have :-)

@jogiba: any hot pixel issues w/ the GH4?
Too bad you don't shoot stills...I'm still curious if it can do the K-5/K-3's black cat out of badly underexposed black frame trick :-)

Thanks jogiba.

And I've never been a fan of Philip Bloom....he spends way too much time pimping his own gear instead of filming well.
I wish Vincent Laforet would do a short w/ the GH4 but he's Canon sponsored so that'll never happen :-P

I'm leaning heavily towards a GH4....feels odd to defect from Pentax for a while :-)

@Jogiba: Could you tell me what you think about the dynamic range of the GH4 (pulling a black cat out of a black frame), noise at long night exposures, etc.? I know these are stills questions, but I'm seriously thinking of going the GH4 route from my K20D for stills as well because of the K-3 lockups issues for interval shooting (the GH4 electronic shutter for timelapses is just a bonus on top of that :-)
And can you confirm focus peaking works when you're shooting video? Would make a DP7 external monitor less necessary if so, so that gives it a big edge over a used GH3 which really should have had focus peaking :-P
What K mount adapter did you end up getting? And did you consider the Lens Turbo or Speed Booster instead of the Nokton?

Nice and sharp resized down to 1080p...4K would work great w/ Warp Stabilizer too :)

I'd be surprised if Sony's A7s is only 12MP though...average consumer wants more MP nowadays :hmm:

Not sure it matters much w/ studio work when you're at f/8 most of the time...or never did to me.
With natural light and wide apertures, I can definitely see why you'd prefer the D800 (even over the D600 which had the D7000's slowish AF system :)

Glad your video person is making use of your old Pentax lenses...what does she use the most? At least this will quiet some of the noise that the K-3 is useless for video ;)

Elinchrom rotalux nowadays too? I loved your older moody cinematic lighting better but it looks like the magazines prefer this newer style :hmm:

K3 Locking Up (while shooting time-lapse)

Too many instances of this to be a batch issue.
My gut (as an occasional firmware coder) is that it's a hardware issue related to voltage causing a pin or the CPU to oscillate. A firmware workaround might be to detect that and shut the system down cleanly instead...

Thanks for all the testing DRabbit. And next time you talk to the Pentax rep, let him know there are some of us who are holding off on getting a K-3 until this issue is fixed...seems like a problem that also occurred on the K-5 as well though not nearly as much :-P

It basically makes the the PCB receivers work like RP Jrx Receivers. I did post on their forum asking for guinea pigs but there wasn't much interest in it.

The Cactus V6 don't look bad from the previews. Looks like you still have to tie to their flashes? If they're tying into any of the TTL system, it might not work well w/ Pentax...the RF602's definitely didn't (they're what led me to the RP JrX).
I do like the old Nikon flashes though...just well-built workhorses.

And remember that your argument was "ball park estimate."

Sorry, you can just randomly pull numbers out...why isn't it $5 more? $10 more? Same price? Free? Cars should cost $10...why? ballback estimate? :-P

The RP JrX are also faster to use...wedding photographers use them a lot because you don't really need 0.1 f/stop accuracy most of the time...I've never had an occasion where it really bothered me.

Actually, it can...I built an adapter for it so it works like the RP JrX (so I don't need the RP JrX as much). It is slower to control the power levels though, because you have to fiddle w/ the joystick, etc. but works well enough.

I'd echo the "huh?"
Go compare costs of APS-C sensors vs FF sensors to start with. There's no way the FF sensor is only $100 more. That doesn't even include the extra costs of R&D/distribution/manufacturing you'd have to recoup your costs on.

Sounds like you've never been an engineer (I have...HW and SW) or in product development...

You can use Radiopopper JrX Studios w/ old Nikon SB28 flashes. You have 3 knobs on top of the trigger and the trigger works on anything w/ a center hotshoe pin. I've used it w/ Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Panasonic bodies w/o problems.
The nice thing about those old Nikon flashes is they're built well and inexpensive ($80 or so) and if you want, the SB80dx ones are even better but around $110-120. They're a lot better built than the fleabay yongnuo etc. stuff because they used to be $300 flashes in the old film days :-)

I've got a spare JrX set I'm selling if you're interested.
