Dolica Carbon Fiber Tripod ZX600103

i know this tripod had so many hits on this forum already but just wanted to pitch in my review about it. but for some members who are looking to get a carbon fiber at a great price, you need not look elsewhere.

fortunately i was able to grabbed a Dolica ZX600103 Carbon Fiber at Costco at the last minute of the sale. i ended up paying a little over $80. you can't beat this price for a NICE carbon fiber tripod. i have been using it for the past 3 weeks or so and there's nothing else i can say except that it's an AWESOME tripod. build quality is top notch, swivel pan is smooth, head lock up tightly, lightweight, carbon fiber and best of all outstanding price. highly recommended. in fact i bought myself another dolica tripod for travel. a Dolica TX570 - the smallest/shortest professional tripod in the market. like my Dolica CF tripod, build quality is topnotch. looking forward to Dolica ST-1100 (a monopod) which currently is out of stock everywhere. hopefully Dolica will have some in stock by January.

Again, this CF tripod is highly recommended.

thanks a lot and pardon me if this is a replicate post.

i'm in also.

pentax lenses are getting so ridiculously high. that's why i just settled for sigma brand lens. my only pentax lens are :standard 18-55mm and M 50mm 1.7 that i purchased in 1971.

to date, i have 4:
1) lowepro dryzone 200 (my carry all camera backpack) love it for it's protection and it's waterproof. meaning you can throw the bag in the ocean and the gears inside will stay dry. my biggest bag but it holds my 18-250, 17-70mm, 50mm 1,7, 18-55mm kit), 70-300, 135mm, 2 flashes, diffusers, battery charger, 2 extra packs, manuals and other misc stuff.
2) lowepro versapack 200- for hiking, running. you can carry your gripped camera, jacket, and other stuff.
3) lowepro classified 140 AW - if i jjust want to carry my gripped k10 with 17-70mm lens.
4) manfrotto unica VII messenger bag. if i need to carry a lens or 2 and a laptop this is my go to bag.

ordered the following online and waiting-
1) lowepro flipside - if i want to carry 1 or 2 lens and i like that the zipper is on your back. good for security.
2) lowepro toploader pro 70AW - if i want to carry just my camera with 1 lens.
3) lowepro inverse 200 - for hiking light. meaning just a lens or 2 and it's a waist bag too. helpful if you've got tired shoulder.

had the following but sold them.
1) kata 123 go 30 (didn't like this bag). it's big yet you can't fit a lot.
2) kata 3N1-30 (like the 123 go, it's big but can't fit a lot of stuff). didn't like this also.
3) c..non dg200 (too square for me and i don't like the c..non logo.
4) lowepro slingshot 100AW (my gears outgrew it's size). and just realized that i am not a sling bag type of guy.
5) Casecrown backpack
6) Clik elite Pro SLR chest pack. not the best holster kind of bag. shape is odd. didn't like it.
7) Clik elite magnesian 20. too small so i got the....
8) Clik elite magnesian 30. didn't like it too.
9) Clik elite medium slr chest bag. too small for my gripped k10.
10) Clik elite traveller. will work only if you have a regular SLR.

serious case of bagcoholic i guess.

What do you use for Baseball game events or In the Park Events ?

when i went to sf giants game awhile back i had with me my 70-300mm and was able to take good shots of the players batting as i am about 3 rows back of the home team dugout. but using it to shoot pics of my family was a challenge as i have to back off 10-20 rows to get a decent shot. i am thinking that 18-250mm will give me more option. like a walk-around lens instead of changing lenses. i have a back up camera (k100d) but it will be a pain having to carry 2 cameras. i am trying to avoid having to carry an extra lens, more so with an extra body. sample pics attached.

hmm 900 is a bit too much to take. i am looking at an older version sigma 18-250 for about $300 and don't have any idea or don't know how good of a lens this is but for my needs it could be the one. everytime we go on a trip (las vegas/yosemite) i always end up bringing 2 lenses and will end up changing lens in between takes. will buying a bridge P&S be a better route for me. just take my 70-300mm for longer shots and P&S for close up shots ? thanks.

MLB. thanks for pointing out. i went one time to a SF Giants game with my 70-300mm lens and it's not the best. i can take pics of the players but when it comes to taking pics of my family, i have to move farther to take a decent shot of them.

hi,

i wanted to get an expert advise regarding my dilemma. i have a 17-70mm lens for family gatherings, a 50mm 1.4 for portrait shots, and a 70-300mm for longer shots. what i want from 18-250 is for events like baseball games and other events that will warrant a close up shot and make a zoom shot in a second. i hate to bring two lenses and hate changing lenses in between takes. should i get a 18-250mm for these events or just use my 70-300mm and get my self a mu-43 camera like olympus pen to cover the close up shots. what do you guys normally will do or what lens do you bring ?

thanks,

thanks guys. great advises and inputs. i guess i need to do my homework first before i throw the towel. it so amazing what PP can do but you're right VT - need to get it right the first time. i was already at the edge and call it done and just get a micro 4/3 camera to make my life easy. in fact i have started taking pictures of all my Pentax gears and go the CL way. but hey i've been a SLR person since my Pentax MX days up to today. so better stick to it. haven't tried any brand - JUST PENTAX for me. so it's pentax or bust..... i guess i am still an aspiring photographer with no knowledge of anything about taking good pictures...

UnknownVT - no problem. appreciate the work. that's way better pic after PP. thanks. i never use or probably i should say i don't have any PP software to work with. am i expecting too much from my K10D and sigma 17-70mm ? as you all know when i am using my K100D and kit lens i could have sworn that i could take more focused and nice pictures than my K10D. i am attaching 2 pics i have taken with my 17-70mm and it looks out of focused. yet my camera tells me it's focused before i took the shot.

thanks for the advise. you're absolutely right in the sense that i set it to spot metering. i will try multi segment and see how it goes. it's just that for an event like family party, i tend to use Auto mode as i am too lazy to check and recheck the variables. should i do AFS or AFC ? when i use AFC the lens tend to hunt a lot. thanks again.

hi all,

my daughter told me that the pics i took with her iphone is way better than from my K10D with a Sigma 17-70mm. i have an old K100D and for some reason the pics from that camera with my old trusted 18-55mm kit lens are way better than the pics i took with my K10D. is there something i am missing ? is there something i need to adjust on my K10D ? on my Sigma 17-70mm ? appreciate the advise.

thanks again,
vic

i never had any experience with non and kon. all i had since 1971 is Pentax. never left and never will (as long as pentax will keep on making cameras). it takes guts to admit how you missed pentax and i admire you for that. horray - and you're mostly welcome to come back. shall we welcome her with open arms ???? of course...

i would never jump ship. i've been using pentax since 1972. and the first lens i had on my camera (50mm 1.7) that year is now on my K10D. imagine - a lens that is 40 years old i still good enough for a digital age, but if i ever jump ship - on a presumption that Pentax stop making cameras, the likely replacement will be a Canon MK cameras.
