If it is water causing shorting you should really discontinue use of the device for a long while. Water can take weeks to dry out of electronics.

Distortion and character

Hello, this is something I've been thinking about every time I see someone talk about distortion, especially in older lenses.

I am of the opinion that distortion can be part of a lens' character, and not necessarily an inherent flaw. A lot of times when I correct for distortion in a photo I end up not liking it as much, it's not something I was looking at through the lens of the camera when I took the photo. Now there will be times where it is a detriment, like for example when you need to take clean records of something, but for recreation and art I don't see how it can only be a bad thing.

If you wanna go wide just get her a Samyang 8mm for appealing in the car portraits. You'll get the entire car and neighboring city in the photo.

I'd say everyone is overthinking it though. If she doesn't already have one get a 18-55 WR lens and (maybe) a DA 35. This combo is limiting enough for a beginner to really learn, and is plenty cheap enough not to slam you on money. But it will give you great results and broaden her horizons. Plus the second you give a beginner more expensive lenses the more afraid they are to break them.

My 2 cents.

The 135 tak bayonet. You could identify that lens from a mile away with the colorful letters/numbers. I love my copy so much, and would love to see some examples of digital FF with it.

It's weird seeing it on a camera that doesn't tip forward because of the weight though.

Night Capturing more full moon detail from the 50-200 zoom kit?

Either haze is reducing sharpness or you're not bang on focus. While a 200mm is a limiting factor on a clear night you can get much more detail than that in a tight crop. Be sure to take many photos and micro adjust focus.
If atmospheric haze is the culprit then you don't have much of a choice but wait for a clearer night.

This was a photo I took with a 135mm, and you can clearly see the detail on the moon is much sharper.

Single In - October 30th | Brian Mckee | Flickr

I'd also argue that stacking is not much help on moon shots from my experience, I tend to get worse shots.

Here are two examples I did with the same telescope, one stacked and one not.

You can clearly see in the second photo linked the stacking process muddied up some parts of the moon while the single shot by far was more sharp overall.

I would actually suggest trying to darken the clouds. Increasing the brightness of the foliage/city would only take away any cues that it's under a blanket of clouds. There's already a great contrast of brightness in the back where the clouds don't cover and you'd never want the foreground to ever come close to that level of brightness.

Great shot by the way.

This may not seem big at all but after a year of financial struggles I've finally gotten the free cash to buy myself a new little toy. Granted this one was especially cheap at 25 dollars so I'm really excited, and may be looking to round out my purchase with something else like a 75-150!

I've been really happy with my DA 40 XS for this range but sometimes the f 2.8 feels a bit slow. What can I really expect out of this lens other than the speed that my 40mm doesn't already offer? Just so I can get more excited of course.

I'm just looking to remove the spring and mount them directly to my M42 lenses directly since I lost the one I had for years on an excursion. I've just heard of horror stories of some of them letting off metal shavings into the camera and wanted examples that you guys have used.

I say make a more expensive K-1 and dump some RND into a better autofocus and movie mode so it can trickle down to the APSC cameras, the only cameras I could really give a damn about at the moment.

At some point Pentax should improve their weaknesses.

If you're going to get something new I could take the paperweight off your hands and try to fix it for my own use :D

I'm pretty handy with solder and smaller electronics.

The bokeh from the tak bayonet 135s are always so good. They're no f2s but it's still neat and really doesn't get busy. Such great value, even if they don't perform the best in bright sun

I think that's actually better than picking a different color if all you need to do is manual focus extremely quickly. Not that I don't also want other colors.

I'd really need to see it, it could be anything. If it is part of the mechanism you could probably get it out of the way somehow.

Here's a shot of the same dragonfly that I took with the 03 fisheye:
