I was surprised, Capture One does keep crop and rotation, white balance, saturation and metadata and a few more things. There some edits that did not come over, but the majority of my work came over with the same edits.

I just saw this, thanks. I figured out the importing on my own and was very impressed it could pull in the Lightroom database with collections, I don't believe that was an option before

I may have the pricing wrong (and I edited my earlier post to remove it), as I saw $119 but then later saw a $229 price, so now I am confused as to where I saw the $119 price.

I also see Luminar is getting into DAM with a 2018 release, though I wasn't too found of it when I got a trial version last year.

I have been playing with Capture one trials for a while now, this is just going to give me the push to actually buy the software. I actually set up a preset to change my images in Lightroom to look like capture one when imported, and did go through a few tutorials, just never pulled the trigger on the purchase.

I downloaded a trial to Capture One and it looks like many updates have been made (or maybe I didn't notice before) You can upload a Lightroom catalog and it will retain the collections, which was my biggest concern when switching software.

I also just read Luminar will be getting an asset manager as part of its update next year, at a final price of under $70.

Yep that was my question I guess, if the xmp data could be used for something like Capture1. Ugh all those files, I have lots of experiments on duplicated images.

My organization was entirely based on using keywords to create smart collections, so I guess I would need to keyword all the files I import into another catalog program. Well off to see what other options there are.

Edit: so looking into other programs - digikam pulls in keywords - for jpg only of course, however it's a nice start to have keywords already. Capture one will pull in Lightroom collections, but not smart collections. I convert all my smart collections to collections and then just pull in the lightroom database. So switching doesn't look too daunting when I decide to do it.

Yeah that is why I stuck with them, Little liars 😤

For those that switched from Lightroom, did you lose your edits? I don't want to use the subscription service either and I am kinda peeved about this, but what keeps me to L6 now is the files that I go back and duplicate and tweak but don't export. So, probably going to lose all that and my keywording?

live view sound after camera being repaired

It seems to have died down, no more "popcorn" or knocking sound when turning it on. Hopefully that is it for the noise.

live view sound after camera being repaired

I got my k-3 back from Precision about a week ago. I had focus issues and on the notes of the ticket, it said:
af unit and associated items repair,
main flex circuit and cpu repair,
af test, refocus and realignment.

description of parts used:
AF Unit and associated parts

So, today was the first day I used in live view, (used it in the last week with viewfinder) and it sounded like popcorn popping inside the camera, and I could feel something moving around in the camera, knocking against the sides. In the 4 years I have had the camera, I have never noticed that sound before while in live view (or at all). I am assuming it is the stabilization inside the camera, would that be correct? Is it normal to be that loud or did something happen during the repair?

I just checked today and it says out of repair and in transient. I was a little worried it would be sitting there a long time. I miss my camera :D

I sent my K-3 in on Aug 23th for focus issues (from being dropped) and have not heard anything since. I checked online and it has just said "in repair" since it got there on the 25th. How long does it typically take for repairs and will they contact me or just send it back without updating anything online?

Negative scanner

I just did all my old negatives from college with the Epson V600. It was good enough to do an 8x10 print in black and white, but i did not try anything larger. I also did about 800 family slides with it, and some color negatives. for the price, the quality wasn't bad. It was good, but I just think there is a limit to how well flatbed scanners can do. I would have preferred a film scanner but it was outside my price range. Depending on what you want to do with final scan (print 8x10 or large prints, digital only, etc), it may be good enough for your needs.

K-70 thrills and disappointments

thank you, my K-3 needs repair and trying to decide to repair t or just spend a few hundred more and buy a k-70. Lower ISO is so tempting. The LCD screen looks nice. I think this review may sway me towards the k-70. I know it's a downgrade from K-3, but for my needs, it seems fine.

K-1 fell and now has focus problem

I have a K-3 I dropped like that and had focusing issues ever since. I never fixed it, just changed fine tune adjustment, which worked at the time, with a lot of adjustment, now it doesn't work at all. At this point, I am just going to buy a new K-70 I think. Precision camera and also KEH give around $300 for adjusting camera to factory specs, if it needs more repair, and you don't want to pay it, I know KEH will ship it back unfixed for just shipping costs.
I am using me as an example, just get it fixed right away :-)

My first thought is I am assuming the point and shoot cameras apply some type of dynamic range setting and maybe that setting needs to be changed on the K50?

Otherwise, It is a big range, so you are going to have to make a compromise. What I do is spot meter the shadows, spot meter the sky, take a few shots in between those readings. Decide which is best and tweak in lightroom. It would be the same in the darkroom, sometimes you need to dodge and burn to fix highlights or shadows. I prefer to shot that way, but you can do bracketing and set up the stops and see which you prefer too.

Beach scenes and snowy days are always a problem!

Dancers Copyright?

I used to dance and choreographed dances can be secretive, depending on studio and event. Some dance events are reused later for competitions and events and studios don't want their look copied. Not knowing the studio, I don't know if that is the case, but it could be. You are sharing the choreography of the dance studio, which they usually have one person who does it. If she (he) created the "artwork" they might not have wanted it shared in that way.

But I don't know if that is something they can force you to pull down. I have asked if I can take photos during rehearsals without a flash and dance studios haven't had an issue, but I post to only friends and not on a business page.

astrophotography with a telescope

Thanks for the help, I just remembered I have a old nikon d200, so I can purchase an adapter for that. The telescope instructions said it had to be a SLR or DSLR, not sure the Q is SLR, I'm not familiar with it, but since I have the nikon, I can just use that. $30 not a huge waste if it doesn't work out. I spent more taking my kids to a 2 hour movie this week.

Celestron 21061 AstroMaster 70AZ Refractor Telescope

I've just glanced over the instructions and it said both a T-Adapter and T-Ring are required to mount camera, but haven't read closely. I am still haven't really set it up, it's been too cloudy this week. Just reading over the manual now.

My kids got a telescope for Christmas and it has an adapter and option to mount a camera to the telescope for photography. Unfortunately I only see Canon and Nikon on their website. Is anyone familiar with Celestron telescope and used them for astrophotography?

Interesting question, In college I was asked if I could join the computer department (this was way back in the early 90s so I don't know what it exactly it was called but I was doing coding, as an elective. They had no women as a major back then - at my school anyway - and since I did really well, they asked me to continue) I said I was a photo major and the teacher told me I shouldn't be, lol. I often wondered what would have happened if I took that path instead of being a photo major! But I was hooked when I went to a camp as a child and a counselor showed us how to print in a darkroom, something I think they would never do with an 8 year old now - the toxic chemicals and all! It was magic. Plus he also taught us to look at things differently - a trash can was an alien, a pothole cover was really a fun maze for bugs, so we took photos of normal things and called them other things and then printed it all in a darkroom and showed the rest of the camp.

I stopped for a long long time, but now I can say I shoot again because I can convey my feelings better than I can speak them. I'd love to be able to paint or draw, but I can't. Also I want to take picture of odd things and show the beauty in them.

walmart.com customer service.. is this normal for stores to do this?

I've have better service from companies, I think this is a Walmart issue, but maybe it's typical with other stores. I have had this happen with Amazon gift cards and they shipped a new card and cancelled the old ones. I think going to cc might be your only route though, with Walmart. I've disputed items with cc company (it was pottery barn or something) and all it did was get a sudden friendly cooperation with pottery barn, lol.
