Raw gets saved as jpeg before you print or before posting on the web. Nobody prints or posts raw files. Same loss of data.

ROFL! Dude, you can have multiple copies of a jpeg or save your "steps" in photoshop so you can undo and save and redo and save. You do not need to keep retouching and saving a jpeg file. You can also save it as a higher quality, lossless and smaller PNG format. It's already 2018 [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

You might notice that it's no different from Pentaxians going bananas when the K-1 came out. The realisation that if you shoot crap with APS-C then full frame will just magnify that crap.

Same here.

I have problems shooting too but it's much quicker so I don't waste as much time as painting/drawing.

While you guys are still debating I took another jpeg shot with my tiny point and shoot. And contrary to what has been said that anything but "normal" photo editing (whatever that means) will ruin your jpeg image, I think this vintage-look isn't too bad. [emoji13]

And another one with my iphone taken 3 days ago. Granting that the highlights are a bit blown up, try doing this backlit shot with your best camera. [emoji4]

When you shoot, raw or jpeg, don't you look at your LCD to check if you have captured enough of what you needed? The truth is, you adjust your settings depending on what you see on that tiny screen.

This is precisely why I started shooting mostly jpeg. I shoot raw and in the end I would need to tweak my shots in the computer to make them look like what I saw on my camera's LCD. Double the work. This is why I tend to get very lazy with post processing. It's unnecessary redo of what would have been already an almost finished product.

Of course jpeg out of the camera is not perfect but you only really need to tweak it very lightly. Raw shooters will try to demonstrate how bad jpeg is by using an image that was shot at high ISO and pushing the shadows to show posterisation. This is blatant lying. A properly exposed jpeg shot is as clean as any raw, and you do not need to push shadows or pull the highlights that much. Again, you do not need to show details everywhere. Too much pushing and pulling kills the dynamic range of a shot and it will look very flat. This is the problem with most HDR photos. Subtle tweaking goes a long way but you need to start with a good frame. Choose your subjects, your light, your filters. Heck, top landscape photographers still shoot with very unforgiving slide FILM!!!

Shoot raw if you want but don't tell me that shooting jpeg is bad.

It's not about being defensive. It's more of stopping the spreading of BS. There's lots of BS going around in forums. Raw vs jpeg, prime vs zoom, ff vs crop. None of which actually make one a better photographer and worse, they alienate beginners.

I still shoot raw depending on the situation. After years of shooting landscape I have become very picky with what and when to shoot. I have also learned to use traditional tools such as GND filters to control dynamic range. It's because of this that I have totally abandoned HDR and learned to embrace highlights and shadows. NOT EVERYTHING needs to have details. Too much details make a shot very confusing. It's not uncommon to see photos with intricate foreground patterns and majestic skies which leave the viewer wondering where to look.

I am guilty of this (see attached) and that's why I prefer cloudless skies when my forground is busy or majestic skies when my foreground is simple. Too much details break a shot and that's why I find it really really funny when somebody wanted to extract details from an overcast all-grey sky [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

If you think that shooting in jpeg is stupid because of it's inability to be tweaked then do not even attempt to shoot slide film. Slide film has a dynamic range of about 5 stops.

For most people, JPG is good enough if you really think about your shot and not about how you can fix your incompetence in front of a computer.

You keep moving the goal post just to prove that JPG shots are inferior.

You said that my shot is only good for small prints and now you are saying that it's not good when inspected zoomed in. These are very conflicting requirements. Nobody will put their noses in front of a billboard print.

I will bet my left nut that if I showed you two different shots you will not be able to pick which one was shot with raw or jpeg.

There are no blown highlights here. Sample it with photoshop and see if you get 255,255,255.

Trust me, I can print this at billboard size [emoji4]

Show me a raw shot of an overcast sky with details.

I shoot JPG most of the time now. I realised that a properly executed JPG shot only needs very minor tweaking if needed. It also means I can process the shot with my iphone. I don't like post processing in the computer anymore.

Does IBIS affect precise focusing and exposure metering?

IBIS does affect focusing to some extent. Had this issue with my K5. The focus issues happen at higher shutter speeds between 125-320. Possibly because IBIS kicks in when it is not needed. Much like having IBIS turned on when you are on a tripod and the image becomes blurry.

Edit: lens is sigma 17-70

It's a cycle. You hate your shots because they look like a million other shots but then the reason you went to a particular spot was most likely because you saw the other million other shots. So it's like shooting yourself in the foot.

Go somewhere else that is totally unfamiliar to you and try to make a shot that is worth posting on your wall. You'll learn how to see and not just copy.

The lower res alternative already existed when Pentax released the near-perfect K5II. Just buy that instead. It's the same sensor as the K1

Keep believing that lol! Equivalence will not change facts. :)

Correct? Print tab accounts for total light differences (not just MP differences) and gives an accurate comparison of output from different sensor sizes?
I don't know what total light or its units are but the print tab simply puts all sensors on a level playing field by assuming all images are resized to 8MP. So the D7k 'screen' values would be adjusted by sqrt(16/8) and the D800's by sqrt(36/8) to become 'print'.

What?!!! Your calculations for IMAGE size was not image size. You were calculating for SENSOR size (sensel pitch x num of pixels). Duh?! Sensor size is NOT equal to image size. Fact.

I NEVER said that. I never mentioned total light. You equivalence fu proponents should stop using that total light crap.

I said K5 and D800 have same SNR and dxomark SCREEN snr is PROOF of that.

FFS, I never said they capture the same total light. Learn to read.
