My lens has the intermittent problem like many other complaints I’ve read. After long storage periods I have to manually rotate the lens focus ring to get it going. My question is: Does Pentax have a solution yet? Have other users had a repair that works? Yes I have tried other SDM lenses on my K10D and they function correctly. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,

I would buy a Pentax 1.4X SDM teleconverter. The 50-135 SDM lens I have works great in manual mode with a 1.4X Tamron converter. A matched Pentax converter with auto focus would be great. What is Pentax waiting for?

Has anyone used a Vivitar Mfr# VIVDF383PEN flash unit on a K10D or newer Pentax DSLR? It may be a good match at a good price.
Thanks,

If you run a few test shots and you are always under exposed the same # of stops, you can adjust the ISO to correct for this on future shots. Of course there is a limit; 1/2 to 1 stop correction should be usable. I have repaired and used many Pentax SLR cameras and most are not exactly to specifications but are very usable. If you are using color print film you have a lot more tolerance than slides or digital.
Good Luck,

I think your right with the conditions I took the picture under I should have tried to support the camera or changed settings. Or maybe I should have saved the money spent on the SLR and bought the 10X ultra zoom BBEAR had. Thank you all I got what I was looking for with the critique.

Thanks for your advise, I have tried in manual mode with the same results. Of course I can correct for this, but was looking for a fix.

After hearing many praises of this lens I purchase one. When mounted on my K10D I have to correct for two stops of over exposure compaired to my DA lenses in the same light. Has anyone else had this problem? Pentax customer service said that this could be normal under some light conditions for a film lens being used on a digital camera. I wanted to send the lens in for service, but Pentax service didn't think it needed repair. If anyone has any input about this lens on a digital camera I would like to here from you.

Taken at SanDiego zoo. SMC A 50mm 1.7 lens on K10D 1/45 seconds f 5.6 iso 800. Here is another photo rejected by the Pentax photo gallery. Does anyone have any comments on why it didn't make it into the gallery?

Michael,
It sounds like it needs a CLA (clean, lube and adjust). This can be costly, but I have seen some repair offerings on ebay $50.00 for a CLA. Buying on ebay may or may not be the answer. I buy and repair cameras I get on ebay and most people either don't know how the camera is supposed to work or don't care. Most of the ones I've bought need a CLA and seals at the very least. If you really want a good old manual film camera, buy it from a reputable dealer. It will cost more but it will work.
Good luck,
Joe D.

:mad:I have some info for any one interested in compatibility of the KENKO 1.5X AF Tele-converter. I purchased the converter to mate up with a Pentax 50-135mm DA* f2.8 lens on a K10D digital. The auto focus does not work and the menus don't function properly. I did limited testing because I did not want to damage it. The converter seemed to function properly, but hunted around a lot when focusing with a DA 50-200mm lens. Kenko does say this would happen with slow lenses and recommends manual focusing. I’m still looking for a converter for this set-up if any one has info please feel free to join in.

Has anyone used the Pentax DA*50mm-135mm on a K10D with an auto focus compatible tete extender? I would like to know your results. I tried an old Tamron 2X. It does not register the correct lens and f-stops, but works well on full manual.
Thanks

I've been viewing this forum for a while and decided to join in. I hope to learn a few things and possible add to the wealth of information. Photography and camera repairs are my hobbies. My first camera was a Pentax Spotmatic, which I purchased in 1967 while in the U. S. Navy. I still use Pentax SLR film cameras occasionally, but have recently purchased a Pentax K10D and two lenses. I have tried many aspects of photography in the past, but my favorites are nature, landscape and travel photos.
