I gave my 'Gift' SF-7 Body an outing and took a few with my Vivitar 135mm f2.8 serial number beginning with 28 of a door on our Catholic Cathedral here in Brentwood Essex , England ( one of my 'Test' subjects) at f5.6 . Film was 'Phototec 400 outdated 04/2000 cut from a Bulk Tin given to me by Sons of my Deceased Old Friend. I rated it 200 ASA and this time tried home-made ID11 formula 1+1 for 9 mins @ 20oC and got great negs -- better than the liquid 'Promicrol' i have used before.

Gave my 'Gift' Asahi Pentax SF-7 body a trip fitted with another 'Gift' ( both Via Pentax User Site ! ) lens SMC Pentax-F Zoom 35-70mm , f3.5-4.5. I used up a short length of outdated Fuji Superia X-TRA 400 , rated 200 ASA,. I had to use 'manual exposure' as SF-7 has NO means to set ASA manually. Very annoying ! I used a Weston Master V for daylight

I know how Americans like our 'Old Structures and Buildings' when they visit UKI -- well here in the County of ESSEX where I live we have an old 'Post' Mill and a little Village called 'Ingatestone' ( they have a Camera Club too ! ) --- I used my 'Gift' Rolleiflex 'T' with 16-on kit and 1998 dated Fuji Reala which after testing I found I could rate at 50 ASA, metered with a 1960's British Weston Master V and Incident Light. I home-Processed in C41. and scanned with Canon 9000F Mk II + Vuescan Pro + FastStone Image Viewer to correct colours.

i have been sent for free a load of 'slightly outdated' film 35mm and 120 by a good 'Flickr' friend so I have been trying to use some and chose one of my 'Classic Asahi Pentax M42 Cameras -- the 1961 S3 which I have renovated -- FILM was 2013 dated Agfa VISTA 200 'Made in Japan' so FUJI and I rated it at 200 ASA and home-processed in C41 and scanned with my 'Gift' Plustek OpticFilm 7200 from a Camera Club friend who bought the later 8200 i model for 20 Quids at a Car Boot Sale so gave me the 7200.

What is happening to my LX??

I had another look at both my LX's -- I bought the earlier one in 1987 S/N 5238305 10th October for 250 -00 i FOUND the receipt It had lain Un-used for years at back of my Cupboard until I read that 'Dodge' -- the same as you do on a faulty ME Super to rotate the Exposure Compensation and ASA dials back and forth. There is nothing 'sticky' on the underside of the mirrors and both mirror bumper foams are still good --- I have replaced them in my ME Supers. On the LX's I wonder if i should touch a MINUTE amount of oil into the hinge on the mirrors on both sides --

Testing Asahi Pentax LX after I got the exposure working again, with my TOKINA RMC Tokina Mk II 28-70mm f4 which has an aperture stop down intermittent fault so not all shots were great. Taken at my Sister-in-Law's house with Window Light and JESSOPS Pan 100S cut from bulk and processed in home-made FX-4 Formula 1+1 for 8 mins @ 20oC.

Stevebrot here is the 'Story' how I ended up with 2 LX cameras -- I bought one first when I was a Photography Tutor in the 1980's at Barking College at discount price through a Student who worked in a camera dealers. Then years later had trouble with erratic exposure so gave to Harrow Technical ( Famous PENTAX repairers) and paid in advance. Then some Yobbos set fire to some rubbish bins outside and fire spread inside premises . Everyone who had a Camera in there was contacted to say they had been damaged by water and fire so would get a free replacement. A BOX arrived with brand NEW Later LX with SMC 50mm f1.4 Pentax-M lens when mine had the f1.7 lens ! 2 years went past then I got a phone call from Harrow Technical asking when I was going to collect my LX that i had paid for and was in for repair !! So i said I had " Been Abroad for a long time " and RUSHED there and was handed my earlier LX undamaged by the Fire ! So I got 2 LX cameras !

---------- Post added 24-06-20 at 09:05 AM ----------

acoulter --- I went to USA on a 'Pentax Club of Great Britain trip about 30 years ago with 2 ME Supers -- I noticed that I was getting some strange exposure read-outs such as 1/2000th @ f16 when I KNEW from experience in bright light for FP4+ it should be 1/125th @ f16 ! Luckily we had a Pentax Company Executive on the trip and he told me to rock the exposure compensation dial back and forth several times and after doing it the LED's were giving accurate read-outs -- that is a FAULT with ME Supers -- there gets dust or condensation under the Exposure Compensation Dial on the contacts.
regarding the Aperture Lever in Camera Lens mount -- I got given a KX body free by a Camera Club member who had sent it off for sale to Ffordes in Scotland and they sent it back as Not Working -- I had a look and that Aperture lever was stuck compared with my other Pentaxes where I could 'Pull it around' -- so I dropped a minute amount of OIL into the ring and pulled gently and it MOVED as it should and KX has been working ever since !

For a so-called 'Professional' camera the LX has been disappointing - I have 2. an early and ,later one. The Earlier one has exposure trouble, the later one has the infamous' Sticky Mirror Syndrome' so I have not used them for a long time -- also the 'Flash Sych Speed' of 1/75th is just not fast enough for fill-in outdoors -- when i was doing my local press photography the rival snappers had Nikons which synched at 1/250th when I was struggling with 1/75th and risking movement and a very small aperture in bright light even with 100ASA C41 film. I used my ME Supers more with 1/125th flash synch speed.

I had a trip out into the Wide, Wide World for the first time since i came home from Hospital 2 weeks ago -- we went to Central Park CHELMSFORD Essex for a 'Family Socially Distanced' Picnic -- I took my Asahi Pentax LX with the 'Sticky Mirror Syndrome' which I have not used for a long time, loaded with 1997 dated Kodak High Speed Infra-Red Film found in my Freezer . I used 2 lenses. SMC Pentax-A 24mm f2.8 and SMC Pentax-M 50mm f1.7 and a 25A RED Filter. I had done a short length TEST in the garden before going to Chelmsford. I corrected the exposure and increased Development time . I used my Home-Made FX-15 ( Acutol-S Formula) 1+1 for 14 mins @ 20oC

I have been doing some experiments with 'High Contrast' films in RODINAL -- I have many outdated Kodak Technical Pan 120 films in my fridge donated years ago by a Studio Photographer and never tried -- so I did a test on the 35 mm and then loaded a 1993 TP into my Mamiya C220 and took it out on my 'One Exercise Allowed ' walk in Brentwood ( England) I was AMAZED how SHARP those Sekors are -- I used mainly the 80mm f2.8 'Blue Dot' Sekor set and a Monopod as I was getting mainly only 1/30 th Second at around f5.6 . My RODINAL is Very Old Dark Brown and is really on its' way out but I have a bit left and it works wit Technical Pan well.
Crown Street Brentwood -- all the very fine Details resolved and the Shadow Detail on right is good
St Thomas Church Spire -- every BRICK is resolved !

Regarding the 'shift' lens I gave mine an outing yesterday after not using it for a long while as the Company which was giving me Architectural work went broke many years ago -- and I found both frames Under-exposed. I used the TTL metering of my 6x7 Mk II I did not scan the negs.

Last ORWO NP20 I did in RODINAL 1+50 was under-developed . The Rodinal was now a ' Dark Brown Colour' with Crystals at the bottom -- so I gave it a 'test' -- I microwaved it gently at 50% for 45 secs several times, trying to break up the Crystals as I did so . It got quite 'Warm' ! I cut the short length of ORWO NP20 rated 50 ASA in my Chinon CG-5 and processed in RODINAL 1+25 for a 'Guessed' 10 mins @ 20oC and got GREAT NEGS !! I could have rated the outdated film faster at 64 ASA even . I have scanned just TWO to show you . I will use up the rest of the 'Brown Microwaved RODINAL' now ! THIS one was using my SMC Pentax-A 24mm f2.8 to see if I could 'Hand-hold' it in dreadful light at f4 -- I think I managed it -- got 1/15th second.

Here I used my Pentax 'K' fit VIVITAR ( Komine made) 135mm f2.8 at full aperture f2.8

Some results of a 'Challenge' to get something out of an October 1952 Dated ILFORD FP3 film I was sent. I used my lovely Asahi Pentax Spotmatic-F. found the film was down to 10 ASA !! I processed in 2 different Crawley Formulae film developers. FX-4 and 'Acutol-S FX-15' -- the FX15 gave lesser 'Fog Level' than FX-4. There were BLack Spots and Fungus Filaments in the emulsion under a x6 magnifier.

Keep getting GIVEN a cassette of outdated Film every week now by a new Camera Club member for me to try ! Latest one was a 12/2006 dated 'MX 200 ' actually KONICA made for the 'Max Speilman Processing Labs' I stuck some paper over the DX Contacts to make camera default to 100ASA -- Blasted SF-7 does not have any 'Over-Ride' of DX OR any Exposure Compensation. I used a SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm f3.5-4.5 .. I tried 'Program + Flash', 'AV' and TV' and Manual 'GUESSED' exposure modes. I processed the film in some C41 mini-Lab Developer given to me when Brentwood BOOTS Photo-Lab closed down.
