For Sale: MONOCHROME Pentax K-50 (debayered sensor)

Every pixel registers luminance only. Probably equally in aspect of sensitivity. Therefore you get total increase in sensitivity about 0.7 ev. You get RAW file which can be opened in every raw converter but on screen it looks a little blueish because raw converter does not know Bayer color filter array was removed. Simple desaturation makes image black and white.
To get max resolution from debayered sensor you need Monochrome2DNG converter, it allows dng file to become ''insensitive'' to demosaicing process which has place in every case you import file to raw converter / editing software.
Finally 16 mpix mono sensor = 36 mpix color sensor in aspect of detail equivalent. It was tested by me on resolution chart 12233.
For the sake of visual evidence here are two pictures. One was taken with K-1 in pixel shift resolution (PSR) mode (crop mode to get same field of view of APS-C sensor) and Pentax K-5IIs monochrome (16 mpix sensor, same in the K-50). With monochrome sensor you can get same details as is using PSR.

This is not normal. Try turning off Shake Reduction and see if the vibrations go away.
Also, check if the image doesn't jerk if Shake Reduction is enabled and you move the camera left and right, as well as when you rotate it on its axis.
The should be no jerks.
In case you see something like that, return the camera to the seller

Hello,
conversion process (debayering) - 450 euro, replacement filter for K-50/30/5/5II - 50 euro. White solenoid replacement for K-30/50 - 50 euro.
K-3/3II/5IIs - 450 euro, Ricoh GR III / IIIx - 450 euro, GR/GR II - 400 euro.

---------- Post added 11-02-22 at 07:19 PM ----------

Theoretically and practically probably YES, but if I have not spare sensor I do not do conversion. Just in case you accept all possible risks.

I would say you do not need any changes in menu if you want to shoot RAW exclusively. In case you shoot RAW+ you can use Digital filters. Extract color does not work for mono sensor. Toy Camera (works) - adds 4 types of tonning, Retro (works) can add frame for picture and toning from blue to brown in 7 steps, High contrast (works) has 5 levels, Shading (works) has 4 levels and 7 steps for vigneting, Invert color (works) - does mono inversion (like x-ray), Unicolor bold (does not work on mono), Bold monochrome (woks) - 3 levels of adjustment. All these effects are for JPEG files.
On Monochrome camera you can use ISO Sensitivity Auto up to 25600. In case of right exposition ISO 25600 files are usable.
High ISO NR - OFF
Slow shutter speed NR - ON (Auto)
Live View - Histogram display ON. I always use histogram to see highlights clipping. Or you can use Highlight allert to prevent highlight clipping.
LCD Display Settings: I like slight adjustment of Blue-Amber scale to Amber side (+3) because K-3 has blueish (cold) LCD color in monochrome.
I use Monochrome color profile as well instead of Natural, Bright etc.
White balance - set it as Custom WB using 18 percent gray color.

Thank you for your interest. I do Pentax and Ricoh GR conversions only at the moment. Nikon D800 could be converted as well. Canon sensors are different and my method does not work.
At the moment I can offer Pentax K110d, K-30, K-50, K-5IIs, K-3, GR III, Nikon D800.
Pentax K-1 was converted as well.

Pentax K-1 monochrome (debayered) sensor: high ISO performance

I do monochrome conversions about a year - different Pentax models and Ricoh GR APS-C models. Finally K-1 monochrome was finished and this is 39th successful conversion.
I just want to share an example of high ISO picture (ISO 51200) shot on monochrome camera in Pixel Shift Resolution mode vs Normal mode. Not worth to make discuss about intact K-1 sensor (with Bayer CFA in place) PSR mode and monochrome sensor because they deliver practically same details and noise. But I was not expecting any additional improvement using PSR mode on monochrome sensor. Seems like monochrome PSR delivers perceptibly less noise (about 1,5-2 stops).
Here are comparison pictures (200 percent crops in Lightroom)

K-1 monochrome ISO 51200 PSR vs Norm by MG Mindaugas, on Flickr

Shortly about Pentax K-1 monochrome resolution. The test was made at 1/3 of test chart height (12233). Number should be multiplied by 300 to get LW/PH value.
Lens - DFA* 50/1.4 @f1.4!
Result: sensor resolves max possible - about 16,4x300. Physically sensor has 4912 pixels in vertical dimension.
Now some calculations / approximations. As I see from tests (my own and from internet) demosaicing in RAW converter is the reason of resolution loss by about 1/3. For example Fujifilm X-H2 has 40 mpix sensor, it means about 5100 pixels in vertical dimension. Test shows that this sensor resolves 3400 LW/PH (https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/reviews/fujifilm-x-h2-review). Similarly 24 mpix sensor from GR III has 4000 pixels in vertical dimension and resolves about 2800 LW/PH (my own data). Same with Sony a6600 (https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/reviews/fujifilm-x-h2-review).
Normal sensor should have 4912 / 2 *3 = 7368 pixels in vertical dimension to resolve same amount of lines as K-1 monochrome. Then horizontal dimension should be 11052 pix and sensor should have 81,4 mpix. This is reasonable equivalent what K-1 pixel shift can deliver.

Rated 300.000 actuations are for shutter only, but there are more mechanisms that work in picture taking process. For example, shutter charge motor. My motor failed at 85.000 actuations and was replaced out of warranty for 430 euro. Shutter blades still work fine.

you probably have corrupted SD card. Try to format it first in camera, if the problem persist, try another formatted SD card. If the problem still persist, something should be wrong with camera

Sanitary silicon. Apply thin stripe using a syringe with a thicker needle. Will keep your lens ring good and excess can be removed easily after drying

IR photography without special camera

315-400 nm is UV-A region. 50 percent transmission (at 365 nm) is very low.
I would possibly use this Schott N-WG280 glass for full spectrum - transmission at least 90 percent in 300-2700 nm

I am sure your converted camera was not modified in such an extend to allow UV photography at its max (<400 nm), because infrared conversions are done without replacing sensor's own protective glass that absorbs UV (especially UV-C and UV-B region).
On the other hand you need special lenses for UV photography, because ordinary lenses have anti-UV coatings.
IMO "Full spectrum" conversion in most cases is VIS+IR conversion.
