Two very impressive shots, of a nice collection,

For a better test, stop them down to a common aperture, ƒ/8, comes to mind, and try it again,
In general, I like #1 best,
#2 might be sharper (where it's sharp!), but that out of focus pod in the top-middle-right bothers me too much to be totally objective,

I may be judging DoF more than sharpness,

One of my biggest fears,
My method, is to leave the card door open on the camera while the card is downloading into the computer through the reader.
Only when the card is back in the camera does the door get closed again.
I usually reformat the card after putting the card back in the camera too.

It's kept me sane,

Share your USER Settings

Both kypfer and bspn have mentioned what I use and why, I typically don't shoot at my User settings, only use them as starting points.

I know I can go to my User1, and turn the camera on, and it will have a decent starting point for most situations.
If conditions warrant, I will adjust SS,ƒ and iso, others as needed. For really fussy settings I usually shift into manual. But I try to remember to put the camera into User1 when I'm done and turn it off.

Then I don't have to worry about seeing Big Foot, turning the camera on and punching the shutter, only to find out it's set for 10-second exposure after a 12-second timer!

18-135mm DA WR Problems Focusing at Lower Focal Lengths

Can you manually focus the lens to a sharp focus, either through the viewfinder or on the rear screen (or test it both ways)?
This would test if it's a mechanical issue with the lens, isolate it from the autofocus systems.

Where have all the f/3.5-4.5 zooms gone?

It has to do with zoom range too,
Most of the older zooms were 2 to 3X (35-70, 50-150 etc), many current zooms are 4 to 6X (18-135, 55-300, etc) and longer,
Harder to only have a stop or two change over such a longer focal length.

Start spending time at your daughter's practices learning the new camera before you are shooting real games, where you want to have keepers.
It takes time and experimenting to find settings and techniques which work for you and your gear.
Doing it in as close to actual conditions as possible will help you get there faster.

The K3III is a great piece of gear, but you need to be prepared to put some effort into learning it to get the most out of it.
Enjoy the process of learning it,

M42 thread T2-mount style adapter?

So it looks like this lens has a different mounting system altogether?
https://photo.site-j.net/english/report/mc85.html
Not sure if this writer is mixing up T-mount, and this "P" Mount, but sure seems odd that the lens natively fits M42 thread, but has the wrong flange distance?
Sounds like an interesting bit of glass if you can find or make the right mounts for infinity focus

More often than not, I see folks lining up behind me to see what I was looking at and pointing their phones at it, too often I've got my 55-300 out, an no phone will find that shot.
Had some high school girls see me walking around with my K3III, and overheard them refer to it as a "serious" camera

Question about new gear I am looking at

Some thoughts, Take them as you like...

Looking at your web site, it looks like you do a lot of Cityscape/landscape and architectural interior work, which I would assume the larger format meets the needs of.
I also see some portrait work, mostly environmental, could be done with any format.
Your event work, looks like weddings and other social occasions, likely wants a faster, lighter camera set up. Though historically, this kind of work was often shot with medium and larger format film cameras,
If you are already invested in a medium format, of any brand, I'm not sure there would be enough difference between Digital medium format and FF (K1ii).

A good difference in formats (in my mind) is to pair Digital Medium format and APSc, which you already have with the GFX and XT4
What is about the Fuji body you dislike? electronic viewfinder? ergonomics? other?

I've always liked the Pentax ergonomics and button placement, they fit me, and I much prefer an optical finder, for any kind of action (wildlife, sports, etc.)
K3iii, KP or similar, would be my suggestion, but of course that means new lenses, so it's a bigger issue than just camera bodies.

I have K3iii (and 4 other Digital APSc Pentax Bodies) and many modern Pentax lenses,
and also a Fuji GFX 50R, with adaptors to use old pentax 35mm, and Mamiya 645 lenses, the GFX nearly deals with my itch to do large format photography. The use of old lenses on a digital body, with no electronics between the lenses and body pushes me to a slower pace of work, Kind of like sheet film w/monorail or field cameras.
But I'm shooting just for fun, not for work, you need to find a combination that works for you, and fits your working style.
