Thematic Light Painting and Light Trails

I actually posted this before in the monthly contest with the topic sky but I think it fits this thread perfectly so I‘ll post it here again.
It’s taken at a bird watching hut that is perfectly aligned with Polaris at the North Sea in Germany. It’s a composition of 100 thirty second exposures for the sky and three exposures with light painting on the hut.

I really like your first one with the boat. Great picture!

Lens Recommendations for deep field astrophotography

If you want to get serious about astro there is the new William Optics Redcat 51. It’s a very good and affordable entry into deep sky astrophotography. And the lens can also be used during the day for birding, landscape or whatever you like.

While you are there already check out his channel. He does some amazing astrophotography and there is a lot to learn from him.

Pentax 6x7 Service in Europe?

I have found two Places in Germany that do service for Pentax film cameras. I have no personal experience with them. Just what I found doing a quick search.

Pentax - Kamera-Spezialwerkstatt Ralf Hügle, Dessau

Reparatur PENTAX Kameras - KAMERAZEIT ist offizieller PENTAX Servicepartner

The second one doesn't list medium format cameras specifically but it might be worth asking them.

edit: Also found this one in Austria: https://fototechnik-mayrhofer.at/leistungen/
They don't list Pentax medium format as well but they seem to have a few decades of experience with all sorts of cameras and optics.

Sean Tucker about his GR II

Sean Tucker, one of my favorite photographers on YouTube has just posted a great video about street photography and his experience with the GR II. Makes me want one even more. Just like him I find that I often leave my big camera (K-1) at home and my phone to be lacking in some areas like manual controls and image quality. So there is a gap to fill. ;)

I don't get all the hate. I think it's really important for a camera company to have a set of entry to mid level lenses and a set of pro lenses. More people will be buying into the brand/system if they offer more affordable glass. Not everyone can or wants to spend $1000+ on prime lenses when they first buy into a new full frame system. Actually it's a pretty clever move for a company that has limited resources. The FA primes are good and can be made even better with very little money spent on development. Just have a look at what the other big companies offer on the entry level. That's often lens designs that date back to the nineties with a few tweaks and upgrades. My guess and hope is that Ricoh will do the same with the FA 50 F1.7 and maybe other lenses (20/2.8, 135/2.8?).

Congratulations on your new backpack. I own and love it as well. It’s always interesting to see how people configure the inside. I think I’ve spent hours trying to figure out what layout fits my needs best. I read your other post and thought you wanted to access the camera from top? That’s the way I configured it after using bottom side access for a while like you and found out that top access works much better for me. I use K-1 with a modified 60-250 F4 most of the time.

One important thing to note and one thing that made people write bad reviews about this bag because they didn’t get it is that it’s really important how you put the small dividers into your configuration. The Velcro tabs have to point upwards not downwards (like in your setup). Otherwise gravity will pull down on the divider if there is something heavy like a lens in that pocket.

So, final cut, or LR premier or not either of those.

I work as a video technician at our city theatre and use Final Cut Pro X professionally. I haven't used Premiere Pro much but I prefer the general workflow and principle of a magnetic timeline of Final Cut. Especially coming from iMovie Final Cut will feel like home but a whole lot better.

Yes 299.- $ is a substantial amount of money but you only pay it once, you also get free updates and it's actually not much for a professional video editing software. Premiere Pro will cost you almost as much (239.- $) but that is per year.

What you could also try out is DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagicdesign. There is a basic version you can download for free on the App Store. The functionality of the basic version will probably be enough for what you need. I haven't used it yet but it's being used for very big (Hollywood) productions. It seems like a very sophisticated software and I use many different Blackmagic products at my job and they are all awesome quality, good design and simple to use.

I really liked the idea of this camera. And so did many others obviously. But I would not call this a scam like the angry photographer. You don't get quality for free. This thing cost around 140 bucks on kickstarter. You can't develop and build a camera with a cartridge/film system with quality materials, good optics and electronics and sell it for 140$. But that is probably what most backers were expecting. To meet the expectations of most people this thing would have to cost at least 500$. Yes it's a sad story but you get what you pay for.

Try them out, buy the camera that best suits YOUR needs. But the most important thing is to stop thinking about gear and use your time and energy to be creative and take photographs.

Oh and take a few minutes to watch this:

You might be right about this. There’s a video that has been posted in another thread recently where it is stated that the 360II could be triggered but only without HSS and TTL functionality. Here’s the link:

I have just tried to find it but it seems not to be available at the big sellers yet. You can only pre order at B&H and Adorama and it’s not available through Amazon directly but there seem to be some Amazon Marketplace sellers that list it as in stock.
