Hi Andrea K. Again I (we) appreciate your work and your effort. Tried .9.3 this morning on the KS2. Several problems seem to occur, When I shoot in AV mode I get unhanded exception and a choice to continue. When I press continue the Hour glass comes on and will not stop. Change to Tv mode and seems to work properly. In bulb mode the after countdown, for say 20 sec. the I have dark subtract for 20 sec.. I do not want dark subtract as is to time consuming. I have several other lockups at various settings. Reverted back to 9.1 and settings are stable. In bulb there is no dark subtract in .9.1, for me this is good. Could make dark subtract an option?
Thanks

FLU Card remote Live View display . . .

after reading this thread I put my flue card into my K3 and tried a variety of browsers and machines. With windows 10 and Chrome I connected could see a live view would not focus or snap a picture but I could press the shut
ter on the camera and it would show the picture on the computer screen.
Next I tried the same setup with Firefox with the same results.
Next same setup with windows edge. Could not see live view on screen but could focus and take pictures by aiming blindly . Picture taken would show on screen.
Next with Asus tablet and android 7.0 Everything worked first time focus all controls and very fast capture no drop outs
Next tried with LG phone and Android 6.01 again everything worked fine

I never used the flue card much because it was so unreliable with windows now seeing how good it works with android it will get more use.

Thanks Andrea, I just tried bulb mode on my Ks2 and it works better than the in camera mode. I like how you created a popup window allowing you to shot and stop while a timer count down is running, helps get exactly timed bulb shots. Thanks so much for your work. I can not believe that Pentax won't create software that brings out the best in their own products that would help coustomer relations. That is one area where Canon excels A must for astrophotogaphy. I wonder if you can get the astro tracer to work with your software? I know that would be difficult.
Thank you
Hank

Hi Andrea k
Tested .7.9 last night with Ks2 and several different lens including a samyang fisheye all manual. Great results
Camera outside on tripod, laptop windows 10 inside.
I could take multiple shots and up to 30.1 seconds, change some parameters like white balance and mono, Tv iso .
What it can not do and is really important for astrophotography is to be able use the camera in bulb mode.
Seeing the results on a large computer screen makes life easier (in below freezing weather) and quality easier to obtain.
I tried both methods of bulb release and neither worked. What was odd I could press the button on the camera while in the software and the
thumbnail would show up in the software. Interval shooting would also be great.
Of course live view is usless for most deep sky photos unless the object is bright also, most shots are focused at the scope.
Please bulb mode is essential. Pentax cameras are very good for astro photos, but Pentax stops short not giving us the tools needed.
Thanks again Andrea for your progress and work.

Thanks Andrea K. Downloaded and installed .7.9 and did a quick trial. The last picture taken now appears on the top of the list, so much easier. I can also take pictures up to 30 sec in M mode and they appear quickly in the thumbnail panel. Took 5 shots at 30 sec and they all appeared promptly. I had live view checked and the shots quickly showed in thumbnails, before if live was checked some shots would not show until I unchecked live view. I will try under the stars tonight if the sky is clear.
Thanks

Hi Andrea K.
Took my Ks2 outside last night under the stars.
I had the camera set to M mode !600 iso using a sigma 18-300 zoom at 100 mm
On short exposures up to 6.1 tv the thumbnail loaded. Any longer exposure did not show up on the left side thumbnails. They were recorded on the SD card.
I am using an fast sd card and my laptop has the latest intel processor. I tried different settings, saving to Jpeg only dng only and both jpeg and dng. One more possibility
Is it possible to have the last taken thumbnail on top of the list rather than appearing at the bottom where it can't be seen unless you scroll down.
Thanks again for your hard work

Thanks Andrea for your hard work, I just installed .76. Using my Ks2 when a picture is taken it shows up in the left panel, but when I check live view and then take a picture, no picture appears in the left panel. When I click on the main panel picture with auto focus checked to refocus and then take a picture, the check mark changes and and shows auto focus off. I single click dose not always move the check mark, a double click usually moves the auto focus check from "auto" to "off".

Again Thanks
Hank

Hi: I just finished testing the remote software using the Flucard in my K3.

I connected my windows 10 laptop to the flucards wi-fi signal on my K3.
once connection was made I tested the connection with the Pentax software
Everything worked was able to take and save pictures.
Then I opened the remote beta software
Software could NOT see K3, "getting parameters failed" message on screen.
I tried several times using ver,71 ,,nothing

As Ronc says above I could not run set up, kept getting error message "could not open, setup is in a different location". After several new downloads and more different locations still would not install (using latest window 10). Running Revo uninstaller showed an older version installed, Removed that version and all new downloads and attempted installs, Started fresh with a new download unzipped with 7 zip added password in zip, setup worked.
Also as above using KS2, the zoom in feature works nicely but the focus on screen is flaky I am using a new dc sigma 18- 300mm zoom lens. When I zoom to 300mm and then 10x it performs, then when I try to focus on screen I lose the 10 x zoom and no focus. I can see this being a great feature when you get those bugs out
Screen froze once for me, needing to remove battery, I don't know what I did to cause this. Next time I take better notice.
I will try with a pentax 16-85 mm zoom next.
Thanks for your efforts
Hank

Downloaded .67 and is the best Wi-Fi remote I've used with the KS2. I had to delete previous beta versions for it to work with windows 10.
Great work encourage you to continue. Wish it would work with astro tracer.
Thanks

I bought a square yard of black velvet material From JoAnn's fabric, and drape it over my scope, camera and my head. I found when taking photos of the sun especially around noon everything is so bright it hinders the ability to focus, see your results and once your head starts sweating your eyes start burning. I use black "velvet" because there are no pin holes of light coming through to distract you. Its like a small shelter that really helps.

very nice Seti_v2
What size filters (diameter) did you use and where did you attach the filters, to the T adapter or the scope focuser. I have the K5 which I don't use to often, and a K01. I see they also convert the k01, I wonder how that would be for astro photography with my 127mm scope. Thanks for the info about Kolari Vision. How long did the conversion take?

Received my new canon Pixma pro-100 today. Bought one 18 months ago with the same B&H deal. The printer that arrived today, the pixma pro 100 seems to be a newer model number and the software that comes with it is ver 2.0 for windows 10, the older printer came with ver 1.2 for windows 8.1. Glad to see they are sending
the newer printers rather than older stock they had in a warehouse. Great deal

K-5 For Astrophotography

Focusing on a point of light in the sky can be very difficult,.maintaining that focus is even more frustrating.especially if your are focusing through a telescope. Don't always blame the camera, many amateur telescopes have very poor focusing devices. and require upgrades that costing several hundred dollars (moonlight, and feathertouch focusers are an example), The scope itself might not come to focus and of course you have atmospheric conditions that are constantly changing making small adjustments in focus always necessary and as temperature changes focus also changes.. You are correct Pentax should be able to make it easier with software to live view on a computer monitor in bulb mode and allow you to make and see your focus adjustments results. I bought a used 14" LED monitor from Shopgoodwill, com for $20 Dollars. Make sure it has an HDMI connector.
Connecting it to my camera (K5-K3 or KS2). with an HDMI cable, that makes it easy to monitor and adjust what I am imaging. The Ks-2 makes a very good astro DSLR. The pentax software works fairly well (to many restrictions) with the KS_2.
Whichever camera you use there are many variables that should also be considered if you want achieve sharp astro- pictures. That what makes the hobby so very interesting and satisfying

Mercury Transits across the sun taken with the K-S2 through a Thousand Oaks glass filter. An Astro Tec 80mmED telescope was the lens. The sunspot dwarfs the disk of Mercury. The articulating lcd screen was very convenient when when shooting into the sun allowing me to look away from the path of the sunlight. Saving eyesight.

Riding through the Rocky Mountains on curving bumpy roads I kept hearing a strange noise coming from what I thought was the transmission or drive shaft. I was hearing this noise around bends and bumps, Every time I stopped to investigate the noise went away, Well I finally noticed my ks2 turned on was sitting on my wife's lap. The anti shake was just doing its job on the bumpy road.

I downloaded the new android to laptop operating system which works on a 3.0 usb flash drive, The software is in Alpha and can be downloaded free from Jidi os2 as a free download, What?s Remix OS for PC? Remix OS for PC is built on the Android-x86 - Jide Technology , You boot from the usb drive in legacy boot mode which has no effect on your present operating system. Your laptop now operates as an android laptop, I downloaded image sync from the Play Store, Works fine with my Ks2 in Wi Fi. mode. Since it is still in alpha it is a little buggy. Play store has to be side loaded from XDA developers form. Fun to experiment with this new software

Pentax HD Pentax DA 16-85mm price drop

This morning the price dropped to $446.95 from $499 yesterday. If you pay with a Chase Freedom card That's 10% cash back for another $44.70 back, that comes to $402.25 for a very good lens. The might change again soon?

I bought the KS 2 White from Costco today. They have a great return policy 90 days after purchase it can be returned for refund if returned as you received the package. If there is better deal on Black Friday It can be returned. I can't see it being offered with that package at too much lower of a price. They only have a few white models left and on other sites the white is offered at a higher price then the other colors. I don't need the lenses and I am sure they could be sold for $150.00 dollars for the pair. Bring the package price down to $350 dollars ( camera, memory card and pentax case).
