Either the 24-70mm, or the 28-105mm plus your favorite prime. I'm a fan of the latter combo because of the portability :)

Yes, voltage is likely to blame. In cases like this you can do a battery pull to reset the camera.

Hmm, you may have accidentally selected spot metering. You should go for matrix metering.

Can you attach the problematic photos?

With DSLRs, you should never use the aperture ring on lenses that offer the A setting, IMO.

But this article details the process:

Which lens option for a new K-70?

Definitely the 18-135mm if you can afford it. The IQ is a little better, you get faster and quieter AF, and the added versatility.

645z suddenly underexposing

This would suggest that the camera stops the lens down all the way every time, i.e. due to malfunction of the aperture actuator.

Yup, they made that improvement starting with the K-5 II (SAFOX X).

I'd do a full settings reset just in case it is in fact a setting, such as the metering mode for instance.

Are you getting the same problem with fully manual exposure? If so, test the lens wide-open to see if the exposure improves there (this would indicate a problem with the aperture actuation). Also, check to see if the camera is properly stopping the lens down.

If none of these reveal anything, then the shutter might be the cause, and would have to be repaired.

Feel free to post samples if you'd like us to take a look.

While the K-30's AF system is far from being state of the art, all 9 cross-type points should be pretty reliable in good light. Later models (starting with the K-5 II) were further improved to do quite well in low light.

The points out in the edges are line-type, so they're not as sensitive. Personally, I just avoid them.

K3 vs K3 ii for wildlife

It is better, specifically when the distance between you and your subject changes rapidly. The core hardware and speed remains unchanged, but if you find yourself shooting nearby wildlife, then the K-3 II's enhancements (also found in the KP and later models) will improve your keeper rate.

Failing = works intermittently
Failed = doesn't work

Yes, the shutter could certainly be replaced. But, as I said earlier, doing so is probably not economical. You'd need to either talk to a service center, or get a donor body to replace the part yourself.

I think folks are mainly just concerned with the lack of signs of life from Ricoh. They're clearly working on things, but terrible as always on keeping in touch.

By the way, if you haven't tried pixel shift, you're missing out! Really cool feature for any still subject when you're shooting with a tripod (and apparently the tripod requirement will now be going away with the K-1 II).

Some of these features are mutually exclusive- i.e. the exposure needle probably wouldn't find its way onto a body that supports electronic aperture communication.

Most film-era Pentax SLRs rely on the aperture ring. A notable exception is the Z series, such as the PZ-1, which also let you set the aperture through e-dials on the body. This camera might be the closest fit for you.

Another one of my favorites is the Super Program. It's a lot more basic, but it does offer all 4 exposure modes and still has a nice metallic feel. If you want a black body, there's the Super A (rebadge), though these are usually harder to find in good condition.

This video shows the process on a mac:
Pentax Firmware Update Guide - Tutorial Videos | PentaxForums.com

The general process is pretty much the same on any OS, you just have to make sure the right file ends up in the right place.

It sounds like you may have skipped the extraction of the zip. When done correctly, there should be a .BIN file in the root of the SD card.

Totally lost understanding the new Lenses......

Time to add some "D's" to your lens lineup ;)

Actually Pentax's lineups are quite simple. The DA line is specifically designed for APS-C cameras, while the D FA line is essentially a modernization of F and FA lines to continue full-frame support into the digital era. Feature-wise you won't be able to tell a difference when it comes to the basics: all four offer automatic aperture and autofocus.

I would pick up the DA 16-85mm as your new walkaround lens:

HD Pentax-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

This would replace your 20-35mm (you can sell it if you don't plan to ever go full frame) and 28-70mm, which aren't nearly as useful on APS-C because of the narrow field of view at the wide end.

You can keep the 80-200mm if you value the image quality, or swap it for the much lighter 55-300mm PLM if you want really fast autofocus and don't mind the slower aperture. This could also be a direct replacement for your F 70-210mm:

HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 PLM WR RE Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

If you're looking for a wide lens recommendation, IMO it's hard to resist the 15mm Limited:

Pentax-DA 15mm F4 Limited Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

I would hang on to the 300mm and 400mm lenses, though the latter might not be as useful since you have the teleconverter.
