Is the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm WR the best macro option out there for my K1?

I have 3 macro lenses: Sigma 70, Pentax M100 and the Sigma 180. All are terrific and different.

The best for close ups is my Pentax bellows with any M-series lens attached. Mostly the M50/1.7.

Thanks.

Sugru and Loctite kintsuglue seem to be available over here, JB Weld is "coming" so apparently not yet available.
I have clear (yellowish) epoxy already.

Some epoxy might fit the bill, I want it to be hard.
The Loctite looks promising.

Thanks!

Hi!

My old K-x took a small hit and a 3mm x 10mm piece is missing in bottom corner.
I am tempted to fix it to prevent dust or dirt into the electronics.
Maybe a piece of tape perhaps underneath and some plastic padding type filler paste in black on top.

Do you know of some more suitable paste brand for this?

Seb

PS: It's my old spare body

Another vote for the F35-70. Or the F35-105 or F35-135...
Whichever you find at a decent price in a decent enough condition.

If AF is not a must, M-series lenses can be available at a low cost, mainly the M28, M50, M135 are good buys, and even the M100 macro is rather affordable.
The A-series are more expensive.

Fixing a jamming focusing ring on an FA 100mm Macro?

A dent in the barrel could be difficult to fix, but if there is something loose inside that jams the ring it could be fixable by a handy person.
Record the disassembly to get it back together playing the video backwards.

Good luck. you need that too.

Apparently Samyang has 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16mm for FF. Never used any of them, been tempted.
They can be had used really cheap..

FF ultra wides are not cheap.

I have the Sigma EX15-30, there is also the Sigmas 20-40 and the 15 fisheye (available new?).
Samyang also has the 8mm fisheye i think in addition to the 14mm.

I guess many less known cheaper ones are available from the film era as well.

Many good tips so far. Best bargain might be the Ricoh 28mm, just avoid the infamous ricoh pin models.
Also Tokina primes (24 or 28mm) can be had at less than 50GBP.

More modern alternatives would be the Pentax DA16-45 or the SMC DA21ltd with AF. I have both.

I have both the DA16-45 and the HD DA21. They are really different and both have their own justification.
Go for the non-HD DA21 if you want the starburst feature in night shots.
Bottom line: if you want affordable wide AF, the 21 is your choice.

I have the 16-45 but usually end up using the DA21 instead. Mainly a size issue but also rendering.

FA 43mm, K 50/1.2, A 50/1.2 - which would you choose?

My A50/1.7 is sharper than my FA43/1.9 especially in the corners (on crop).
However the 43 is better in every other aspect, evenif the A50/1.7 is a good copy too.

If I had a FF camera I would do a lot more with my FA43/1.9.
On crop the DA21/3.2 is a bit wide but mainly too slow.

I would say that new Pentax gear can be had at reasonable prices in Finland (TopShot) and Sweden (Cyberphoto) since they have decent offers every now and then.
Everything else is expensive here in Scandinavia...

Is used equipment selling well?

The price gap between camera shops selling used gear and gear sold online by private persons has widened significantly.
Maybe because many switch brand? Especially mid price range gear like DA18-135 are really cheap now.
Then the K/A50/1.2 or the (F)A85/1.4 never will be cheap if in good condition.

There was one some 10 years ago, sadly closed years ago.
Eager to know if there is any brick & mortar shops left in Stockholm.
Rajala Pro Shop might have something now and then if someone switches brand to Leica or CaNikon. Not cheap.

A good copy is way better than a copy w. low serial no.
But you wont know if it's good or not before you buy one (used or new).
The no is engraved...

I have the older non DG version in mint condition. You can't go wrong with either one.
I suppose if you try to shoot something really reflective there might be some ghosting on the non DG.
My take would be that the overall condition of either lens matters more...

One prime (DA14) and one zoom (F35-105).
Sadly the latter is broken and replaced with the heavier and faster F35-135. About as good.

Maybe my copes were good, both aquired new.

If you need to take pics in the dark (like while driving out from camp, or at the camp fire) then AF is not accurate. Go MF. I ended up with my A50/1.7 wide open in those situations in Kenya.
