And mine has a spot that I first thougt was from a droplet drying on the front lens leaving a residual, but then understood was a beginning lens separation. This doesn't affect the IQ a lot, and can be fixed by an experienced repairman (Mighty Mike?). But it wouldn't be worth the cost, I've got a 100mm DFA macro that leaves the M lens in the dust anyway.

28mm M 2.8 not focusing

The lever is the connection between the camera body and the lens aperture mechanism. If it's stuck, it means that the aperture is stuck. And if it's stuck in the wide open position, DOF (depth of field) is very shallow, and it's not easy to get an acceptable focus.
Another reason that a maual lens can't be focused well, is that one of the lens elements in the lens has come loose or put out of it's position, e g by a real bump. It' might be an easy fix, but probably not. If you shake the lens gently, can you hear someting loose inside?

Landscape lens question

Another take on the subject:
Ok, we can discuss the pro's and con's of various WA lenses. But I strongly oppose to the simple "landscape lens=WA lens".
My only award-winning landscape lens was taken with an 85mm. My best ľ according to the jury (myself) was taken with a 200mm. So let's talk about WA rather than "landscape lens".

Kjell

PS My best portrait - of a pig :D - was taken at 16mm. DS

Just three lenses, your pick?

IF I had to pick only three with a shotgun to my head, I guess I would take the FA 35mm f2, the FA Limited 77 f1.8 and the F*300mm f4.5.

But why limit yourself when you have an ILC? What about when you actually want to shoot macro? The DFA 100mm f2.8 WR is fantastic for what it is. And ultrawide for documentation of hotel room and home interiors. Doesn't happen very often, but in these occasions the 35mm simply isn't wide enough. I had the FA 20mm, had to ditch it for irreparable reasons. Now I have the Irix 11mm and 15mm. They don't get much use, but can't be replaced with anything less wide at times. For theatre and shows the A* 200mm is simply "da thang". And on and on it goes... :o

I do hope to read this soon:

Wheatfield:
"I preordered mine in May, it's already been delivered. It's fantastic, and not even expensive! They made a huge batch at once, to prevent slow delivery. Get one, you won't regret it!."

Far from being in the top league here, but I have 18 lenses (all but two Pentax original). I'm not a collector, the ones I don't use I keep because I think I will use it. Maybe not today, but soon...

Anyone from Stockholm?

Don't expect to find anything cheap in a specialized camera store like Rajala or Scandinavian Photo (I'm not even sure there is any other left in Stockholm.) The most popular camera stores in Sweden are mainly selling online (Cyberphoto in Umeň).
A better chance is to look at the online classified ad sites Blocket and Tradera. If you're lucky, you can make a deal there and pick up your item and pay it as you visit Stockholm if the seller lives there. The Swedish Crown SEK is very low right now, good for international visitors, not so good for us Swedes if we want to shop abroad.

And I had been waiting for a full frame since I bought my first DSLR (*istDS) in 2005. When it finally came, I liked it and I had had plenty of time to save up the money! :p

I also have it and it is, without doubt, my best manual focus lens. It's light enough, very well built, outstanding optics and very easy to focus. The last is what makes me favour it before the A* 85mm, which is in the same league in all other aspects.

I use mine for concerts and theatre, for landscape and even for portraits. I can recommend it fulllheartedly, but I can't compare it to the FA* or DA* varieties since I've never tried any of those.

This happened once with my K5, when I had put in a el cheapo third party battery. Never with an original Pentax ditto. I guess low battery voltage can be the problem.

What made you decide to purchase the K-1 over the KP?

My version of an answer:
When I bought my first digital Pentax, I already had some of the "Green Star" lenses. When I realized that my shining new *istDS had a sensor smaller than the old film negative, I decided to continue buying "full frame" (funny, in the film era we called 24X36 small image cameras, as opposed to 6X7. 645 was "medium format") because I was convinced that all manufacturers, including Pentax, would release full frame when sensor prices had gone down a bit.
What a wait! 10 years! And meanwhile they released the camera I dreamt of, the K5. I have, use and adore that camera, but I also preordered the K-1 as soon as I had tried the only one available in Scandinavia.
To this day I only have one DA lens, the 14mm. But it sits idle on the shelf.
I'm not pixelpeeping, or get into lengthy discussions about the miniscular differences in tisortat. But I enjoy the feel of both my camera bodies. The *istDS has retired and is now a museum item on display in my study.

I have a 20'X30' print made by a professional lab, taken with my 12.6 MP K20D. Of course, if you look from 10 cm distance it's not supersharp, but from a normal viewing distance it looks perfectly OK. I wouldn't hesitate to make a wallpaper sized print from my K-1, if I ever took a photo worth it!

Pentax 50mm, a specific question
Posted By bilybianca

For some time I had the A 50mm f1.4, the F 50mm 1.4 and the FA 50mm f1.4 (still have the two latter). When I did some comparison test shooting I couldn't see any difference between them (all excellent lenses) except that the FA rendered a bit warmer colours. I'm not sure wether it actually was the lenses, or if the camera for some reason changed the white balance (auto WB, but I do think it was the lenses). Maybe different coatings between F and FA? No matter what people mutters about them being obsolete and of an old optic design, I think they are very usable.

Opinion time: what are your favorite manual lenses?

Well, the A* 200mm doesn't zoom at all, since it is a prime lens. I have used it for portraits, theatre and concerts, flowers, and landscape. The A* 85mm is much harder to focus. I'd love to have an A* 135mm, but on the few occasions one is for sale the price is horrendous. A new fast D-FA* 135mm wouldn't be a bad thing.

Pentax K-1 wheels usage

I never use those two wheels, and could very well have done without them. To my they are an unnecessary gimmick. ISO and exposure compensation have dedicated buttons in the right places, and the rest of the functions are also easy to set.

Or you can just use your 400mm lens on any of the different cameras, and then crop the picture to APS-c size in post processing. Pixel density aside, a bigger sensor always contains the smaller area of a smaller sensor. Just crop if you want a smaller field of view.
