Optical, mechanical, and cosmetic condition are all excellent. These very seldom come up for sale in either Japan or western markets.

Reducer for Pentax SDHF 75 Telescope. I think this works with other SDHFs and SDPs but I have not verified this. Two items are included to mount a Pentax body -a 50-52mm step up ring and 52mm to Pentax K reversing adapter (both generic) which are appropriately sized for full-frame sensors. You may want to view this link to see an example of a like unit in use.

The K-1 shown in the photos is only for illustration and not included in the sale.

Astrophotography lenses that will work on Pentax!

Looks really nice. Tempting. If you get one, be aware: The site states that the FRA400 has a 44m(m) image circle and it includes a M48 adapter. If you're using a aps-c or smaller sensor, it should not be an optical issue to use some sort of adapter that goes as small as a T2. If you're using a full Frame sensor though, there's a good chance that a T2 / m42 adapter will vignette. (Depends on the optical design.) It's quite hard to find M48 to K adapters - I ended up having to make one one, and It made a big difference in vignette when using the K1's on faster instruments like 400mm F4 and 1016mm F4.

DxO Sale and a question

Been using it for years, and I am in the process of migrating away from it.
For my needs the strongest features that I valued are:
- Prime de-noising is superior.
- Speed of raw preview when flipping between and comparing shots.

The reasons I am migrating away and towards RawTherapee:
- Cannot make my own correction profiles for my vintage lenses, which I have many. This is a biggest reason.
- The Luminance (flats / vignette) part of the the built in correction profiles were not as good as I expected. With SR off, and at various focusing distances they were close and they did help the image, but there were not precisely on.
- No Linux Support
- It irked me that when I upgraded my K1 to a K1 MkII that I had to buy the new version of the app. Really annoying.

Poll: Which roadmapped and rumored product is your favorite?

The poll only allows one choice. I'd buy the 85/1.4, 35/1.4, DFA 1.4X, DA 11-18/2.8 ALL equally quickly. I suspect I'd use the 35/1.4 most frequently, followed by the 85.

50 vs 77

I use both about equally.

Honestly, it often depends on how much space I will have to work with (shooting distance) or if the large physical size of the DFA 50 will not be appropriate for the situation, or if the weather is threatening.
I would say that with my shooting style, a slightly higher percentage of the shots from the 77 are 'keepers' or 'special' compared to the 50.

FA77:
Glorious world-class Rendering.
Downright small and and light. Integrated slide out hood.
Non-intimidating size for sensitive subjects.
Near wide open the color bokeh can sometimes be distracting, and occasionally with specular reflections that are out of focus.
Glorious world-class Rendering. (yes, repeated)

DFA50:
Huge and heavy for a 50.
Very high resolving power at all stops, out to the corners.
More forgiving in extreme lighting conditions.
Much quieter and surer focusing on my K-1s, better for fast action.

Both of mine show 'in repair' as well now. Not counting on them getting back to me in time for a trip next week, but still nice to know. Just two days ago I bought another K-01 as a temporary measure to get me by.

Both my K-1's are off for upgrade service. When they get back I'll do a comparo with my A* and the Samyang.

i will say this: I'm on my third copy of the Samyang. The first two had easily visible uneven sharpness between the left and right sides. My third one has a hint of astigmatism. I'm probably unlucky in this respect but none the less, when you are making financial and time calculations, keep in mind that the Samyangs may have the "hidden" cost thus mentioned. My time is valuable, and it's worth a certain amount of money to me to not have to goof around with multiple copies just to get a solid one.

Use of filters and their need and affects on modern DSLRs

I know that everyone has their own unique approach to thinking about how to shoot and I respect that! That's what makes us all individuals.

My particular way of doing things is to break things down in to steps and consider each step in the order they occur. It's not 'right' or 'wrong' per se. It does bring a great deal of clarity to my thinking about what I am doing and helps me make more effective decisions about adjustments.

There are two scenarios here:
1. C-PL is in front of lens

If we expand upon UncleVanya's previous post:

We get:
Sensor | Color Filter Array (CFA) | Lens | C-PL | Light < --------

in this case It's all about what I want to do with the light before it enters my lens - and therefore my use of a C-Pl has no relationship with which lens I am using. I'm already done with thinking about what I want to do with the polarization aspects of the light before I ever start thinking about what I want to do with the lens. The reason for this is because this is the order in which these things occur. I keep them separate.

2. C-PL is behind one or more surfaces with HD coatings (drop-in filter)

Sensor | Color Filter Array (CFA) | C-PL | Lens | Light < --------

In this case the subcomponent of the light that is scattered internally as it passes through the lens may not have the same polarization state. Therefore the C-PL may have reduced modifying capability.

Even though my working style is essentially the same in both scenarios, my mental model is quite different. I think about what the C-PL is doing when it does it.

Now, with all of the above being said, there is a reverse case to consider:
Q: Is there a case when the lack of HD coatings contradict the use of a C-PL?
A: Yes. In extreme contrast situations (high illuminance) especially if both the lens and the C-PL do not have excellent coatings, you can get a lot of internal reflection between the front element and the filter so you're better off not using the filter.

At work:
I'm a developer. I run quite a few servers, and lots of boxen: I've used all the Ubuntu and Mint flavors for about 4 years now, also CentOS, RHEL, and quite a herd of Raspberry Pi's

At Home:
2x i7 laptops and one really beefy power desktop. Dedicated Mint Kodi i7 media server with quad tuners. Linux based Qnap NAS.

For the Band:
Pair of Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon laptops used by the light and sound engineers.

Favorite:
Linux Mint 19 Mate is my definite favorite 'windows replacement' and I'm in the process of completely migrating off windows. It has been SO pleasing to see how distros in the last couple of years are reaching "just works" status.
