So far so good, people are very happy. The truth is I am very envious, but I cannot really afford a K-3 at the moment.

My upgrade path is, a K5IIs early in the new year and a K-3 at the end of its production run when the price will have dropped considerably.

Time for more wine.

I have ordered more wine and just about organised for the big days that are ahead of me. Out all day taking pictures and drinking wine all evening whilst looking at posts about the new K3. Life is good.

Thanks for posting with history ad image details Jim, sort of makes me feel part of the scene. You have given me the itch to get out there and do something similar, we have an old barn in the village that is to be demolished and would be a prime candidate.

Yes, that is truly amazing. Pictures like that make me realize just how lucky we are, to have such fantastic gear to use.

Also works well when doing PP work. Those difficult exposures just seem to pop with a glass of wine.

K-3 Firmware wishes....

For me it is absolutely vital that I can change the camera body colour via the firmware at least every two or three hours. For me to get the most out of this camera, it will have to match my mood, and that changes from hour to hour. It is important to remember just how dramatically colour changes the way we take and perceive our pictures. No colour means black and white and I am not a black and white guy.

So Pentax/Ricoh, you have been warned. No guarantee for this important must have, and my money goes on as many coloured cheap point and shoot cameras as 1000.00 will buy. Think of the bulk buy discount I will get !

Richard, - tongue in cheek.

You`re correct c.a.m. Thre will be plenty -`I`m outa here`. Thing is I suspect that some of those people actually won`t know how to use the camera properly anyway. Come to that, they will have no real knowledge of any camera, and no desire to learn.

Thanks Col,
It`s almost 100% certain that someone will be unhappy if the box is not sealed, or if the camera arrives with more than a couple of clicks.

Hi Jindesu,
Sounds like a good idea. One snag, I live in Lincolnshire England. Mind you, I may be in the US for a holiday next year.

Hi Panoguy,
You sound as though you`re on my wavelength. I used a K100d to make money and a K20d and now K5. During all that time I have mostly praised my cameras and found ways to workaround any weaknesses they may have. Criticize or jump ship why ?

We are getting close to having the first batch of K3s in our hands. The posts here and elsewhere will make good reading.

Comments such as :-

Fantastic camera - best viewfinder - wonderful high ISO ability - worth every penny/cent - flash problems solved at last - fits my hands perfectly - AA filter system out of this world - better than FF - Ricoh is better than any other company - all controls are exactly in the right place - menu system is easy to use - auto focus and tracking perfect - etc.

will be everywhere and people will be over the moon with pleasure. However, it will not be long before posts with comments like :-

I`ve got a problem with K3 - menu system is a nightmare - compared to Nikon the flash is a joke - compared to Canon the auto focus tracking is a joke - why have Pentax done this? - why have Pentax not done that - camera is too heavy - light - big - small - my pp system does not recognise the RAW files - memory cards are difficult to remove - I should have bought FF - etc.

For me this is all good stuff, I will go out most days taking pictures, and spend the dark winter evenings with a bottle of wine looking at my photos, and then reading these posts. I hope the more I drink, the more hilarious they become.

Ok, I`ve had another go. Different crop, got rid of two boats in the distance and brought up the shadows a bit.

Thanks for the input,
I agree about the shadows - something for me to work on. Re. a lighthouse, I would have to import one, but a bit further up the coast is a half submerged church. That would have been ideal.

Thanks, Richard.

K-5 II for Wedding Photography
Posted By Richard Spencer

Hey, way back in 2007/8 I was doing weddings with a K10d and a K100d as a back up. If anything the 6mp K100d has better noise control than the K10d but both did me proud. In fact that self same K100d is still the back up to my K5 and it gets a lot of use.
Re. Capturing the moment ? Think about how it was done in the days of manual focus. I`m talking about pre-focusing and proper use of depth of field. So, if you have doubts, stay with what you have got. Try to not go above ISO 800, preferably ISO 400 and you will be amazed at what the K10 will do.
So, what I think is - The K10d despite its high ISO noise limitations will still do you proud if used correctly. But, if you feel like upgrading, I would suggest The K5II and keep the K10 as a back up. That way you will have no/less moire problems on wedding dress veils etc and you will find the upgrade massive and totally amazing.
Good luck with your new opportunity and have fun.
Richard.

Welcome Deedee,
Thought you might like to look at this.

Although the thread is about long lenses it also shows what the K5 and K7 can do.
