Is the K-01 still worth buying in 2018? Hell yes!

I've had three and still keep my bumblebee. Went to a KS-2 for the flippy screen which is very useful for some of the work I do.

I plan to take the K-01 and DA15 as my only camera on holiday next month, as others have said, small, light and doesn't look as threatening as a DSLR.

From my experience it more depends on the speed of connection. Uploading many gigabytes of images may take a long time depending on where you are and available bandwidth.
I've used Google drive often to share images and it is universally available. Is 5 Tb enough? If not you can buy more. But it's not integrated with anything which may make life more difficult.

SSD drive and Photoshop

I've done the SSD upgrade on my Win 7 system and there was a significant improvement in Photoshop performance partly from general OS improvement but also from the faster loading of PS program modules.

Excellent, most comprehensible comparative test I've seen for a while - never mind the features, does it feel right in your hands.

+1 for seeing the results

Is Pentax in the need of a M/L system?

Lets start off by agreeing that Ricoh/Pentax is a small player in the market, hence limited development resources.
Based on comments in this forum if nowhere else there is a long list of glass needed to match the capabilities of existing bodies.
So the question becomes "what are you going to give up to fund development of an MILC"
My guess is that somebody in Ricoh/Pentax has already done some analysis and concluded "not yet" but they are probably watching Nikon with interest.
Whether we as individual users like it or not there is clearly a market for MILC and Nikon have sort of bet the company on it, they are in for an interesting time.

Mixed, I bought my K-S2 body new because I wanted some of its features but my K-5iiS and most of my lenses secondhand - usually from one forum or another.
A lifetime in the IT industry has made me wary of being close to the leading edge.

To be honest the only camera I always have with me is my phone but if I know there will be an opportunity I usually reach for K-01 with DA15.
Back in the day it was a Rollei 35, an absolute jewel.

When I had a similar problem recently I was able to recover the embedded jpg from the raw file using a piece of freeware called ERawP ... usual health warnings apply.
Not the same quality of course but it might be an image you want to keep.

Professional caught out a little when Fernando Alonso appeared on the pit wall - he was by far the biggest "name" at this event.
Not sure why he didn't switch cameras and I'm not sure the fingers helped the image.
But we've all been caught out with the wrong lens at the wrong time so sympathy with a guy just trying to do his job.

Ratio on wedding: Couple vs Guests

Based on surveying pictures from a wedding I went to recently I think it's important that every guest appears in at least one picture.
The portfolio I examined missed out a great many people which is a pity in every respect.
This incidentally involved two still camera persons and a video person who concentrated almost exclusively on the bride and groom - this may have been their brief of course.

I think this forum has much to answer for in this area.
I'm usually happy with what I've got until I see a competition winner taken with a Takigron 17-23 and I think "wow if only I had one of those I could win competitions as well"
So the next few weeks or months are taken up with finding/buying the lens and trying to use it well which keeps me going until the next time.
Then after a while the lens migrates onto the shelf as something new comes along.
That's without reading how wonderful M42/Russian/Ricoh/Cosina/??? lenses are and how some lucky person has bought a stunner from Goodwill for $5

Does this say something about how long Sony batteries last when in use?
I can get a heavy days use in "spray and pray" mode out of even the smaller DLi109 so a spare in the pocket is enough for me.

Thanks to all for their recommendations and advice.
I'm not so good with the command line as I used to be so looked around and found ERawP whose sole function is to extract the JPG file from RAW. The result is pretty good

Thank you both and I have retired the card just in case.
Is it possible to access the embedded jpg directly? or will I just have to use what I can get from a screen dump of the viewed image?

RAW confusion

I'm a newcomer to RAW processing and I have file which has me confused. If I open it with a viewer such as Faststone or Windows it looks OK. If I open it with an editor Photoshop/RAW Therapee/DXO it has extreme corruption as shown in the images below. I assume there is some kind of corruption but, thankfully, none of the other images taken at the same time show this.
The recent survey results show there are many RAW users in the forum so hopefully somebody can explain what's going on and maybe how I can fix the problem so I can edit the picture.

I only have three film era Pentaxes.
An SV because this was the first Pentax I ever handled, it belonged to a friend's father, and it revealed the greater world of photography to me. It only took me 50 years to get one of my own.
An MX bought because it's what I should have bought when I bought an ME
And a Spotmatic given to me by another friend whose father had bought it new.

They all share that special Pentax DNA of handle-ability, precision and quality

Don't know the details but this is surely a candidate for 3D printing ... not a quick solution for sure but given the rarity it should be a worthwhile proposition for somebody.
Of course the battery connection metal work would have to be transferred but it seems to be riveted on so not high tech.
