More Limited lenses

Don't know where you got that reasoning - it's baloney all lens efficiently cover 35mm if that is what they're designed for.

The reason Pentax produced a 43mm lens for 35mm camera is 43mm provides an angle of view of 55 degrees the exact AoV of the Human eye

The Camera Versus the Human Eye

Which would also give us 28mm as the magical focal length for Pentax APS-C
using 2 X arctan ( frame \ 2*focal length)

Sounds like you have the camera in semi manual and have your exposure all over the place.

Exposure consists of iso + shutter speed + aperture

If you use a lower iso you need a longer shutter and or larger aperture.
I'd advise using green or auto take note of the exposure the camera will use and go from there using hyper mode to ensure you don't break the exposure.

Credit to your model but quite a few of your images are soft - I suspect due to subject movement.

As static shot, shutter is usually recommended to be >= 1/125 she did really well.

Never forget though image stabilisation may allow really low shutter - subject movement is not effected not even a tripod will save you there.

Poll: Used Metz 58 AF 2 vs new Shanny SN 600 FGZ

Shanny only supports a subset of P-ttl so you get no Wireless P-ttl

you cannot control the flashes firing and exposure off Camera using P-ttl signals.
you cannot control another flash using this using this unit

i.e no Master/Controller or slave mode for TTL

decent cheap flash for on camera use but creatively limiting.

Mmmmmm the k3 series is a fine camera that produces 1st rate images as many postings prove.

Equally the Sigma 10-20 is a very high grade lens from Sigmas top line range and again many posting from it show it is capable of very high detail sharp images on any Body inc all Pentax's.

Your complaints seem to indicate both the k3 and the Sigma are producing substandard results compared to your K50 and Kit lens ... I find this very peculiar and surprising.

There is either something wrong with your equipment, Settings or technique without further details its hard to define where the problem lies.

Could you post one of your 'Disappointing' images so we can see what is so upsetting in the results and perhaps diagnose the cause.

Any news about Pentax AF system breakthrough?

As previously stated no reason Richo couldn't instigate D500 type AF performance new lens would be required and the body would cost fractional more than D500.

Which gives us the main sticking block ... Pentax users will not invest in large enough numbers to be an economic project.

It seems they'd rather whine and shoot obsolete equipment than even invest in the ridiculously cheap incrementally upgraded bodies.!!!

Whilst that mentality exists Ricoh has no option than to follow their current path. Leveraging very creative functionality to produce cheap highly capable cameras.

Acon R930 P-TTL radio trigger and 2 flash setup, what flash do i need.

I've used aokatec P-ttl units to successfully control 4 P-ttl flashes (each receiver can breakout for two local flashes. ) with a mix of metz and Pentax P-ttl flashes.

I also happily mix and match aokatec P-ttl with manual and auto flashes again Metz/pentax P-ttl with auto Metz 45 hammer's

As the oakatec units are just wireless optical repeaters they work perfectly with any brand flash system providing you successfully stop the non wireless transmitted flash signals reaching the flashes sensors..

Though I agree with Class A for regular remote flash control the Cactus System give more control and simpler setup of complex lighting situation than P-ttl mixed.

For simple (<=3 lights) dynamic situations P-ttl delivers better results

The Acon unit are IMO trying to fit a squarer peg into a round hole - P-ttl is time critical and designed as a light broadcast system to convert it before delivery is not going to work for anything but the simplest (1 flash) set up... Metz flashes are very time fussy with P-ttl and doesn't take much to persuade them to fire pre or post shutter time I suspect due to processing time in flash - Pentax flashes are more tolerant of late signals.

Is it worth upgrading my flash?

What body you using it on

is it user firmware upgrade as 3rd party flashes have a history of requiring update to function with later bodies.

Personally I wouldn't touch and 3rd party offering without USB user upgrade options and a proven record of providing those updates.

Even Sigma I'd be dubious of with the 'we cant get parts anymore' excuse for older flashes/lens.

Unless it cheaper than you could get an equivalent manual flash I'd give it a miss.

Rather the supplier you link doesn't stock many Pentax K mount lens !
or your search is very poor - which given your results I think is closer to the truth

You list show 29 from all manufacturers of which many are 645 so not K anyway

try this for a better list
PENTAX K Mount Lenses | SRS Microsystems

42 genuine OeM K mount lens
20 Sigma K mount lens

To be fair a proper filter on Adorama

Shows they stock 122 K mount lens (just a little more than your 29 :D )
Canon and Nikon have about 450 so many more but how many lens counts as enough ??
Sigma only have 66, Sony 200 and 4/3 22

Again this is what Adorama stock not what is in the retail market.

I think quite rightly Pentax/Ricoh couldn't care less is the largest reverse engineering company has burnt their fingers (again)

Strange everyone of my Pentax lens have almost identical mount diameters that is 12 lens ranging in age over 30 years.

The largest is the da40 limited that is maybe .1mm larger than the smallest - BUt My Sigma 70-200 is 1.5mm larger that 15 times bigger !!

We generally say 10X bigger breaks it in all design considerations.

Only my non pentax lens show any serious variance

---------- Post added 11-05-16 at 05:35 PM ----------

You see that big silver bit with the screws in ? - That shouldn't exist on a PKa mount

You see the inner knurl just outside the contacts area that pretty much the limit for a standard PKa mount

Yep you can clearly see Sigmas 'fat' mount fouling the body.

If a standard mount was fitted (that didn't extend past the body mount) no fouling would occur despite Sigma Squared body style.

Equally Sigma can re-engineer the mount to have a full 45 degree chamfer which would give about .5mm clearance.

I can see why they did this (to give additional support to heavy lens) but surely they should have wondered why Pentax never made 'fat' mounting plates ?

Having said that it certainly looks like the k1 is weird in the clearance department !

Looking at my large barrelled lens both Sigma and Pentax the difference is obvious

1 Sigma Old = Squared end fitting to a standard Diameter PK mount
2 Pentax All = Chamfered to standard PKa mount
3 Sigma New = Squared end fitted to an extended diameter (1.5mm bigger than any Pentax mount) Pka type mount

1 OEM = first party

3 anyone else 3rd party

---------- Post added 11-05-16 at 03:44 PM ----------

There are many variants your last covers two

70-200/2.8 EX DG OS HSM (supposed to have mount issues on K-1)
70-200/2.8 APO EX DG OS (the last 70-200 in production not mentioned as having issues )

1 70-200/2.8 APO EX
2 70-200/2.8 APO EX DG
3 70-200/2.8 APO EX DG Macro (released as Macro HSM in all mounts but PKA)
4 70-200/2.8 EX APO DG HSM II
5 70-200/2.8 EX DG OS HSM
6 70-200/2.8 APO EX DG OS

I may be wrong on the last two as it may be box Vs lens nomenclature

Your exmple is not relevant it about intellectual property and rights on its design. Sigma won a legal case which allows them to make oen moutn lens without cost (I believe they used clean room reverse engineering to by-pass patentable property rights)

If the 3rd parties paid licence fees they'd have design blueprints so would be able to see what the designed clearance requirements were.

It seems everybody wants something for nothing

1 3rd party doesn't want to pay for design specs
2 User want to buy cheap 3rd party glass
3 OEM is expected to carry the engineering cost of 3rd party fxck ups

Fortunately the real world has laws (both legal and moral) to protect us from such mis-allocation of blame

An example was Sigma paying Nikon 14.5$ fro Copyright infrimgment on their Reversed engineered VR

Some history
lens - Why do 3rd party lenses have compatibility issues? - Photography Stack Exchange

Also I beleive Tamron and Tokina have 'agreements' with Pentax/Ricoh hence no issue for these lens.

So because Sigma refuse to pay Pentax for the right to use their mount, Rioch should 'test' these 'non' K mount offering and change there specified design and clearances to match Sigmas Made up design !??

Ignoring Pentax lost licencing fees and Pentax's lost sales to competitors what reason have Ricoh to change their design to fit someone else's made up spec ?

I do see a flaw in your expectation

If any current Pentax lenses failed to fit then maybe you'd have a point but it appears the k-1 matches Pentax K-mount design specification and so ALL Oem lenses fit without issue.

Oh and Sigma Lens do not work on all manufacturers bodies both Canon and Nikon Owners are used to having to send their Sigma lens for FW updates to be compatible with new models (that is until Sigma drop support on that lens then your stuck with a white elephant)

You pay a low price for Sigma for a reason don't expect OEM's to carry the cost of your decisions. This is Sigma's Issue and the contract between yourself and Sigma are where you need to be looking for restitution.

200mm f2,8 patent

I suspect your last point is the hits the nail on the head.

The 200 probably has never sold that well (compared to the 60-250,50-135 and 300) and probably only ever had a single production run.

Given the release of a FF body there is a reasonable expectation of increased sales of this prime length.

Also bear in mind a lens patent often take 5-10 years to see a product if ever.

I think you mean 9.1.1 not 6.1.1

DNG files will open with any recent ACR version I use ACR6.7 in CS5 with my K3 (adobe supported V8.3) .

Support means having colour profile etc available in the converter .... But DNG carries camera profile data so irrelevant of the 'application support' you should be able to correctly open a DNG if your application is correctly configured.
You may need a later version to support extensions like pixel shift and a still don'y think ACR supports Pentax HDR in any version. (not supported in DNG or PEF)

The NX-1 is not a dslr it has CD optimised lens (and hybrid sensor) so is not related to this discussion.

Though very expensive for what it is , it is an impressive camera 15fps , -4ev , 205 PD points etc etc

Probably the best current crop CsC but with Samsung on the label will not rival sales of the Sony CsC's

It depends which Sigmas your talking about

The HD converter will work well with all screw drive Sigmas but Sigma HSM reverse engineering is flaky
the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX OS wil not focus well with the HD converter

For the HSM Bigma you need others to respond.
Sigmas I have and tried the HD converter with

Sigma 400 Telemacro = good
Sigma Bigma EX = good
Sigma 70-200 EX = good
Sigma 70-200 EX os = unusable

IMO the HD converter is considerably better value as an in lens converter than the Pz tamron/teleplus etc it works :D
I bought my Pz 1.4 and 2.0 converters years ago and paid 32 and 8 respective about what they're worth .!
I paid 379 for my HD converter and again feel I got value.

If you want/need to drive in lens Pentax lens in AF with a converter and have full SR etc then don't throw any money on the non functional Pz legacy converters.
