I suspect this is a K-3 replacement if not a successor. There are indications that the K-3II has been discontinued.

If Pentax's forthcoming KP is a high-end APS-C it might help with market share as I believe overall APS-C still has more sales than FF in the DSLR market.

It seems there is a lot of emphasis on the battery grip on this coming announcement. I wonder if it is similar to Fuji's Xt2 booster grip that adds more than a couple of additional batteries. Fuji as designed this to increase the FPS from 8 to 11 and provide for earphone jack (get rid of that ugly hump on the K3) and I am not sure what else.

Seem Pentax is into odd numbers, K7, K5, K3 and the K1 is taken by the new full frame. So where do they go with the K3 replacement? I suspect the KP is the replacement for the K3 as they K3ll seems to be discontinued. Likely will be shown at the CP+ in February. Anyone know the specific date of that show?

OK,got it. February 23rd.

K-3 Low Light

I have shot several theatre shows, which have terrible lighting for photography, with a K3 and the DA* 50-135 f2.8. I use this wide open on aperture priority at IsO 1600 and have been very happy with the results. My images were selected by the show's producer over those of others using FF Sony and Canon equipment.

K-1 + Yongnuo flashes + What trigger?

Ar3e you looking for PTTL or just triggering your flash off camera. My thought for off camera work with the Pentax system is to go manual and employ a flash meter and a pair of PocketWizard Plus X transceivers that sell for about $169 in the US.

I think if buying a 3rd party flash, I would stick with a brand like Metz. Lots of choices ...but if looking for something inexpensive, you could consider something like this one: Metz mecablitz 36 AF-5 digital Flash for Pentax MZ 36357PS B&H

I used a right angle finder for years, (anyone want to buy it). However, as I get older (77 now) it becomes more difficult to contort my body to use the accessory. I am hoping that the K3II replacement has an articulating screen.

There are many advantages to the rental plan over the purchase version. Updates, for example, PS 6 doesn't get any, you have to wait for the next version. PS CC, on the other hand, gets updated regularly as soon as a new update is available. Also, you get both PS CC and Lightroom CC for $10 US a month.

I don't understand your comment about APSC lens line up. Pentax has the biggest APS lineup and some really outstanding lenses to boot. The could upgrade the coating and perhaps replace the SDM motors in some. Although, new SDM's seem to be trouble free.

Tripod head

No one has mentioned the Kirk ball head. They were the professional's choice before the RRS ball head became available. I have had mine forever and never a problem, will handle the 150-450 sized lenses with no creep.

Why not Lightroom CC. You get both Lightroom and Photoshop for US$10.00 a month and ongoing updates as they become available.

Image quality is not the issue. I am sure a Fuji mirror less can produce as good an image as most other APS cameras. The issue for me has always been the viewfinder. I have yet to see any EVF that can compete with a good optical viewfinder.

New lenses we can expect quite soon...

In addition to weight and size, there's the issue of using filter on such a lens; particularly graduated nd filters. Also a zoom such as this is bound to be prone to flare. It's close focusing distance is longer than a prime, not so good for those close near to far images.[COLOR="Silver"]

---------- Post added 07-17-16 at 02:52 PM ----------

I agree ...the 15-30 is a good focal range for landscape, but doesn't take filters. Filters are frequently used in landscape work so a good prime around 20mm and if a f1.8 would also offer some use in architectural work.

Tripod advice.

I have two tripods, the main one is a Gitzo Mountaineer; not cheap but they don't come any better. I also have a very compact travel tripod when I am travelling light. However since replacing my aluminum Manfretto with the Gitzo, I haven't used the travel tripod much. Also consider a good ball head, I was with a local camera club outing and noticed many with cheaper heads were having problems with longer lenses particularly.

Polar and ND grad filters 100mm, square

The problem with a square polarizer is that when using in combination with a ND grad, when you rotate the polarizer to where you want it the ND grad is not where you want it. Lee make a circular circular polarizer that can be turned independent of the other filters in the stack. Expensive but the best.

New APSC Pentax by early 2016, using Sony A7000 sensor?

No question that FF is better than APS-C ...the issue here is cost. Not so much for the body but the lenses. For those of us who invested in top of the line APS-C lenses, there is a substantial investment and unless you have funds to make the transition to FF glass, your going to stay with APS-C; so hopefully they continue development of that format. Also, smaller lighter benefits, again more so for the glass than the bodies.

Your right, it's not the camera but the cost of replacing all those DA* lenses with new FF DA* lenses that is the killer for me.
